Many beloved television shows are known for having stellar Halloween episodes. "Roseanne" and "Bob's Burgers" truly shine in their spooky specials, and "The Simpsons" has created an institution within an institution with its annual "Treehouse of Horror" installments. "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" shows a similar love for the holiday, kicking the show's wacky antics up a notch for each season's Halloween Heist. Though the show struggled to reconcile its "good guy" NYPD characters with 2020's political climate, which had little use for "copaganda" shows, no matter how nuanced or well-intentioned, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" never lost sight of what made it such a special show. The series used the Halloween Heist episodes to emphasize the squad's devotion to each other along with their hilarious competitive streak that was always rooted in love.
As good as the Heist episodes are, it's difficult to rank them from worst to best. Establishing a Halloween Heist hierarchy depends...

Though long embraced by parents as family-friendly safe zones, Disney’s live action films were just as often called out for their squeaky clean posturing and regressive world views.
Fair enough – but as Noah Cross growled, “Politicians, ugly buildings and whores all get respectable if they last long enough” – and a good number of those mild-mannered entertainments, while not exactly ready for the arthouse, are at least worthy of a second look.
Disney Movie Club has released some of those Baby Boomer perennials in sterling Blu ray transfers – unfortunately available to club members only. Here’s part one in a rundown of the more tantalizing items.

Almost everyone has dreamed of living life as a movie star at some point. Earning an incredible income while acting is certainly attractive, but most people dream of the fame. Unfortunately, even some highly successful and talented actors do not achieve widespread fame. One of the most underrated and underappreciated actors working today is the highly accomplished Joe Lo Truglio. Lo Truglio currently stars as Charles Boyle on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The extremely popular show was just recently renewed for a fifth season, much to the delight of its many fans. In addition, he has appeared in many iconic films and

Milton Boyle, you are the father! In the Tuesday, May 23 season finale of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Gina (Chelsea Peretti) revealed the father of her baby is in fact a Boyle, much to Charles Boyle's (Joe Lo Truglio) delight. "Oh my god, he's here. You guys, try not to puke all over yourselves when you see him," Charles said…and then Milton Boyle was revealed to be none other than Ryan Phillippe. Safe to say there was no puking. "Charles is pretty upset and talks about my character, Milton, as if he's the black sheep of the family," Phillippe said. Milton left high school in his junior year…to become a professional snowboarder. Now he owns a winter apparel company that...

Even though the funny cop genre has been done time and time again, the officers of the Nine-Nine keep finding ways to make it original. A great cast led by former Saturday Night Live star Andy Samberg, Brooklyn Nine-Nine brings Samberg’s goofy brand of awkward comedy to the NYPD.
The popular Fox comedy has been renewed for a fifth season reports, Coming Soon. The show, which is set at a precinct in Brooklyn, New York, deals with the daily procedures of what looks to be the most fun a person could have inside a police station.
Officially led by the strict and very dry Captain Raymond Holt, and unofficially misled by the childish, Die Hard-loving detective, Jake Peralta, the other officers in the Nine-Nine precinct somehow manage to get work done while putting up with Peralta’s antics.

Break out the riot gear: Ryan Phillippe is coming to the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” precinct. The “Shooter” star will guest on an upcoming episode of the Fox comedy as Milton, a potential love interest for Gina (Chelsea Peretti). This whole thing will drive Det. Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) crazy. Those two NYPD employees and ensemble cast members have a bit of a sordid history — oh, and they’re also step-brother and sister now. Weird/gross, am I right? Phillippe’s guest spot is set for the penultimate episode of Season 4, which airs next month. Also Read: 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine'...

With Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s much anticipated fourth season finally airing on E4, spare a thought for those who have never experienced the joys of this quick-witted, warm hearted cop comedy series. Det. Charles Boyle’s got his Jewish Obgyn backstory down to a science — unfortunately, he’s also got a “perfect butt,” in his own estimation. That presents a major problem for Joe Lo Truglio‘s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” character while working undercover in a women’s prison. Boyle’s serving faux residency in the clink, trying to help Det. Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) get information out of real inmate Maura Figgis (Aida Turturro). But in the above clip, the actual felon instead just takes a shining to the fake doctor. The nervous NYPD cop curses his glorious glutes for getting him in too deep.

SNL veteran and "Trainwreck" co-lead Bill Hader has scored a key guest starring role in Fox's comedy series "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" says EW.
The second season finale saw Andre Braugher's Captain Holt being forced to take a PR job for the department by his nemesis Deputy Chief Madeline Wuntch (Kyra Sedgwick), meaning our regular team were anticipating the arrival of Holt's replacement. Hader will play that replacement.
Hader will at least be guest starring in the third season premiere, how far beyond that he'll be sticking around is unsure. Arguably the show's two funniest characters - Holt (Braugher) and Gina (Chelsea Peretti) - will be getting their own subplot for the same amount of time as well before things return to a normal pattern.
Other guest stars this season include Archie Panjabi ("The Good Wife") as Lieutenant Knox, an officer with an interest in Charles Boyle (LoTruglio). "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" returns to screens on September 27th.

It feels like it's been a thousand weeks since the last new episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," but that's an inaccurate assessment of the passing of time. The reality is that we haven't had a new "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" since "Sabotage" way back on March 15. "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" returns this Sunday (April 26) with "AC/DC," the first of four straight originals to close the season. Is the episode focusing on the legendary Aussie rock band? Or power current? Nope! Some members of the precinct gang are heading to Atlantic City, which is a reminder that even though "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" shoots down the street from me, the show is set on the East Coast. And as you might expect, Charles Boyle has big plans... [I have no idea what that has to do with this picture of Peralta as a clown, but it's from Sunday's episode, too!] Check out this HitFix Exclusive scene from Sunday's episode:...

Wedding bells are going to chime on this Sunday's episode of Fox's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." After a whirlwind courtship, Charles Boyle's dad (Stephen Root) and Gina Linetti's mom (Sandra Bernhard) are tying the knot, but actual police work is apparently going to cause chaos. Last week, I got on the phone with "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star Joe Lo Truglio to discuss the nuptials, as well as Boyle's gradual evolution from his larger-than-life beginnings. We also talked about Lo Truglio's own status as a foodie and what the "State" veteran got out of sharing recent scenes with sitcom legend Garry Marshall. So check out an exclusive scene from Sunday's episode plus the full Joe Lo Truglio Q&A below. The 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations were revealed Wednesday morning, serving as yet another precursor on the long road to the Oscars.
In the film categories, Birdman was the big winner, scoring four nominations, including for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone, as well as the collective ensemble cast. Boyhood followed right in its footsteps with three nods for Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and another ensemble nomination.
The big surprises of the morning’s nominations started with Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, a bubble contender in a crowded Best Actor race, Jennifer Aniston for Cake, a bubble contender in a disappointingly less crowded Best Actress race, Robert Duvall in the poorly reviewed The Judge and Naomi Watts for St. Vincent (Watts was in Birdman as well, but that must’ve slipped SAG’s minds).

As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a jack(ass) of all trades. I follow the film industry for Lr, and critique films. But I'm also an actor, I front a rock band, I'm a DJ, film editor, and director as well. Basically, when it comes to entertainment, there's nothing I don't do. For some time now, I've been mulling over bringing some of my other interests to Lr, and I'll be starting with the SAG Awards. How? Well, I've been a member of SAG for 6 years now and I also am part of the voting process. That means every year I am sent screeners of all the films being considered for awards.
Here's where a new running feature comes into play:
As I start receiving these screeners, I will write special reviews for each one and publish them here. Then, as we near the voting deadline,...

Not many comedy series, even some of the greatest of all time, start as strongly as Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The cop comedy is the funniest Us import of 2014, bringing big belly laughs and an ensemble cast that have a true spark and chemistry.
On paper it may sound like a very traditional workplace comedy with the usual tropes of will-they won't-they office romances and rivalries, but Brooklyn Nine-Nine installs the format with a colourful array of characters, silly stakeouts and brilliant cameos (Craig Robinson, in particular) so that it feels utterly fresh and original.
Andy Samberg was already well known for his work on Saturday Night Live, hilarious comedy group The Lonely Island and underrated BBC Three series Cuckoo, but in Brooklyn Nine-Nine he takes on the leading man role as the cocky, infantile and gloriously daft Jake Peralta.

[Warning: This story contains spoilers from Brooklyn Nine-Nine's season finale.] Fox's Brooklyn Nine-Nine delivered a major twist during Tuesday's season finale. Over 14 episodes, with a 15th set to air in a prime post-Super Bowl slot this Sunday, police department comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" has grown into one the season's strongest new shows. Earlier this month, the freshman series even walked away with a Golden Globe for Best TV Series, Comedy/Musical, besting the likes of "Big Bang Theory," "Girls" and "Modern Family," as well as fellow Michael Schur creation "Parks & Recreation." And while Andy Samberg also snagged a statuette for his performance as gifted cop and terminal manchild Jake Peralta, what's made the series come together is the depth of talent of its ensemble, from Andre Braugher as the deadpan Capt. Ray Holt to Joe Lo Truglio's tyrannized Det. Charles Boyle to Stephanie Beatriz's perpetually scowling Det. Rosa Diaz. Beatriz has emerged as a standout even in a cast crowded with very funny people, her Diaz a leather jacketed tough...

Many British TV fans were left scratching their heads at last weekend's Golden Globes, when the big surprise winners of the night turned out to be cop comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine and its lead star Andy Samberg, who beat the not-too-shabby list of Michael J Fox, Jason Bateman, Don Cheadle and Jim Parsons to the best comedy actor title.

See the face newly-crowned Golden Globe winner Andy Samberg is pulling in this picture — full-on grimace, crazy eyes, neck vein that might pop at any second? It’s a mug that screams “mugging,” even without the benefit of motion or sound — and it’s also a nice encapsulation of why more than one friend has told me that they’ve decided Brooklyn Nine-Nine isn’t for them, even without laying eyes on a single episode. Their objections generally boil down to something like this: “I might be able to get into that show… if it didn’t star Andy Samberg.

Oh, hey, did you know that "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" won not one, but two Golden Globes Sunday night? Yep. In what was perhaps the biggest surprise of the event, a gobsmacked Andy Samberg won for best actor in a comedy series and the show as a whole won for best comedy series.
Only twelve episodes of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" have aired, and boom. Golden Globes. What did you think of the show getting the honor so quickly, over powerhouses like Jim Parsons, Jason Bateman, and "Parks and Recreation" and "Modern Family?"
We're happy for them, and we're sure it's going to bring in new fans. Anyway, on to tonight's episode, "The Bet."

We're happy for them, and we're sure it's going to bring in new fans. Anyway, on to tonight's episode, "The Bet."

Last week Fox picked up Brooklyn Nine-Nine for a full season, rewarding faithful fans of the cop comedy -- although watching the sublimely silly series, from Parks and Recreation's Daniel J. Goor & Mike Schur, is its own reward. Blisteringly funny, utterly irreverent and unlike anything else on television, Brooklyn Nine-Nine also boasts one of the most exciting new ensemble casts of the year.
Sure, Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher are great in their lead roles, but the supporting players have proven to be the show's not-so-secret weapons.
"I'm so used to being on TV shows or in movies where I do one scene and leave," Joe Lo Truglio, who plays Detective Charles Boyle, tells ETonline from the La-based set. "Here, I'm getting to create a character and bring him over a long story arc. That's exciting on a personal level. On a creative level, you see the writers getting ideas for great combinations of characters. Now they...

On September 17th, SNL‘s Andy Samberg is going to try to sell you on cop comedy, and it’s about as tough a game as coming up with a Brooklyn Nine-Nine Review. I suspect he’s going to manage it, but it’s the kind of show that you’re going to want to know what you’re in for. You have to go a long way to find something worthy of comparison that doesn’t make this show sound like Scrubs P.D., and when you go that far back, the comparison may not make a lot of sense.
In a recent interview, show creators Dan Goor and Michael Schur (of Parks & Recreation – which gives an idea of the feel) mentioned Barney Miller, and that’s actually the best show I can think of to try to put Brooklyn Nine-Nine in a neat cubby, but that needs some explanation in itself.

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.
Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.
Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.
