A couple of months ago, it was announced that June Diane Raphael, who may be best known for playing the character Brianna Hanson for the 94 episodes that make up the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, which ran for seven seasons, is set to star in a TV series reimagining of the classic sitcom Bewitched for Sony Pictures Television. It has also been revealed (via Deadline) that Raphael has been cast in the mysterious horror project called Weapons, the new film from Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger.
Details on the character Raphael will be playing haven’t been revealed, but we do know she’ll be sharing the screen with Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Julia Garner (Ozark), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Amy Madigan (Antlers), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), and Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives). Last year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons… which was, at one point, set to star Pedro Pascal of The Last of Us and Renate Reinsve of The Worst Person in the World. Pascal had to leave the project so he could star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Fantastic Four instead – and even though that much larger production hasn’t started filming yet, as of right now it looks like Fantastic Four is going to beat Weapons to the screen by about six months! While that superhero movie is set to reach theatres on July 25, 2025, New Line has announced (via Deadline) that Weapons has been given a theatrical...

After establishing himself as one of Hollywood’s hottest horror filmmakers with the 2022 mega-smash “Barbarian,” former “Whitest Kids U’Know” star Zach Cregger, seems ready to take an even bigger swing with his second directorial effort. Last year, it was announced that his spec script “Weapons” had sold to New Line in a massive bidding war. Since then, Cregger has pulled together an all-star cast for what’s being described as an interrelated, multistory horror epic that’s tonally in the vein of Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Magnolia.”
So far, Cregger has managed to attract the talents of Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, and Alden Ehrenreich, as well as the producing powers of Roy Lee and Miri Yun from Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Speaking in a statement on behalf of New Line, the company’s president and Cco, Richard Brener said of Cregger, “Zach proved...

The producers at New Line Cinema had the opening fatality of Final Destination 3 in their back pocket well before the movie’s 2006 premiere. In fact, talks of a deadly theme park ride made the rounds before creative partners James Wong and Glen Morgan returned to write the script. After the disappointing return on 2003’s Willard, New Line wanted something thrilling for its next horror project. A “roller coaster” movie, as New Line founder Robert Shaye put it. Like-minded Richard Brener is also owed some credit; the executive producer apparently was on the same wavelength after brainstorming ideas — initially anything big and transportational, such as boats and trains — for the intended conclusion of this franchise. However, the overwhelming box-office numbers steered the original plan off course and Death lived on to kill another day.

Up next from writer/director Zach Cregger (Barbarian) is New Line Cinema’s Weapons, and Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”) had been attached to star. Until this week, that is.
Jeff Sneider reports in his newsletter The Insneider that Pedro Pascal has exited Cregger’s Weapons, reportedly “forced to drop out” of the project “due to his busy schedule.”
Pascal is getting set to begin filming on Season 2 of HBO’s “The Last of Us,” and his busy schedule at the moment also includes the just announced movie The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World) is currently part of the Weapons cast.
Moving full speed ahead toward a theatrical release, production is anticipated to commence this year. The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures.

Five years after "The Nun" became the biggest movie in the history of The Conjuring Universe, Valak the demon nun is back for more. That's right! After being caught in development and, no thanks to the pandemic, delayed for a little while, "The Nun II" is finally upon us, with Bonnie Aarons returning as Valak and Taissa Farmiga suiting up once again as Sister Irene to fight the evil being in the lord's name. Let's get ready to rumble.
It's clear that Warner Bros. has no plans on ending this franchise any time soon, as "The Conjuring 4" and a TV series set in the universe are already in the works. So, does "The Nun II" contain any teases of what's to come? Does this sequel contain a post-credits scene of some kind? This year’s box office hit Evil Dead Rise is being unleashed on 4K and Blu-ray on June 27 – with no special features, we’re bummed to report – but it’s also streaming at home right now.
In addition to being up for grabs on various VOD platforms, Evil Dead Rise also made its debut on the Max – formerly HBO Max – streaming service today, June 23, 2023.
As you may recall, Evil Dead Rise was originally going straight-to-Max, but the pivot to theatrical ended up being a profitable move for Warner Bros. At the worldwide box office, the well-received sequel scared up a whopping $146.3 million worldwide in theaters.
Expect more Evil Dead soon…

Up next from writer/director Zach Cregger (Barbarian) is New Line Cinema’s Weapons, and THR reports that Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World) will star.
Renate Reinsve joins the previously announced Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”).
Moving full speed ahead toward a theatrical release, production is anticipated to commence later this year. The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

At the start of this year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons. They signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, tasking the company with developing high concept genre projects for them. And they gave a greenlight to the thriller Companion, produced by BoulderLight and Cregger. A couple weeks ago, we learned that Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) is going to star in Weapons – and now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that he’ll be joined in the cast by Renate Reinsve, who starred in the Oscar-nominated film The Worst Person in the World.
Details on the characters Pascal and Reinsve will be playing are being kept under wraps.

Georgina Campbell survived the horrors of last year’s Barbarian, and she’s now set to return to the genre with New Line’s The Watchers.
THR reports that Campbell has joined Dakota Fanning to star in Ishana Night Shyamalan‘s feature debut.
The Watchers follows “Mina, a 28-year old artist who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers that are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.”
Production is tentatively to begin this summer in Ireland, with theatrical release scheduled for June 7, 2024.
Campbell will play one of the three strangers, though no additional character details have been revealed at this time. Here’s hoping her character has an easier time than Barbarian‘s Tess, but we have a hunch that what’s lurking in the forest isn’t good news. It is a horror movie,...

Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, “Evil Dead Rise” tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

"Evil Dead Rise" made its big debut at SXSW this week, and was met with glowing, universal praise amongst critics, including our own Jacob Hall, who wrote that with "Rise," the "classic franchise roars back to bloody life." There's a lot to love about this latest installment, especially as it retains all the mean-spirited, nihilistic fun that the 2013 reboot brought while infusing the property with both a brand new city setting and a fresh set of new characters. It's been almost unanimously agreed by all who have seen it this week that this nasty, blood-soaked film from director Lee Cronin ("The Hole in the Ground") plays amazingly with a crowd and in a proper theatrical environment.
That's why we couldn't be more grateful that even though the film was first announced to be an HBO Max streaming exclusive, it was eventually reshuffled into the Warner Bros. theatrical release schedule. We...

There’s just no telling when Ash will run into a deadite. At a screening of the upcoming horror film Evil Dead Rise at the SXSW film festival, during a Q&a session with the cast and crew, an audience member became possessed, not by the Book of the Dead but by the Book of Anger, as he shouted out to the filmmakers on stage, “This movie f**king sucks!” Naturally, the audience felt how disrespectful this was and proceeded to boo the heckler as he made his way out.
According to Deadline, the heckler threw his popcorn in a fit of rage and stormed out after he had been approached by staff members following his little tantrum. The cast and crew laughed it off in disbelief, but the enraged audience member would flip them off before exiting and attempted to yell more obscenities as he was drowned out by the audience’s jeers.

Attending The Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans last year was one of my favorite horror experiences of the decade thus far, and Daily Dead is proud to return as one of the sponsors for this year's festival, taking place March 30th–April 2nd!
I couldn't wait to see what Overlook had in store for attendees this year, but I was not prepared for how spellbinding this year's lineup would be. From the world premiere screening of Renfield to the closing night showing of Evil Dead Rise, there are 26 features and 24 short films to look forward to, as well as the return of the Halloween costume party, the weekend-long immersive game, and Final Exam Trivia sponsored by Daily Dead!
On top of all that (and much more), in-person special guests will include Nicolas Cage, John Goodman, Joe Dante, Jim Jarmusch, and Chris McKay!
Below, we have the official press release with full details,...

Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger’s winning streak continues. Made on a budget of 4.5 million, Barbarian earned more than 40 million at the domestic box office when it was released by 20th Century Studios last year – a big enough success story that New Line Cinema forked over 38 million to pick up Cregger’s mysterious new horror project, Weapons. (Beating out Jordan Peele and Universal in the bidding war.) New Line then signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, the production company behind Barbarian. And as part of this deal, they put a sci-fi thriller called Companion on the fast track to production, with Cregger producing alongside BoulderLight and Vertigo’s Roy Lee. Now The Hollywood Reporter has learned that New Line Cinema has won another bidding war, this time picking up the haunted house project Occupant from new writer Victor Sweetser… and Cregger is going to be...

It was a flash bomb of an auction. Within 36 hours of first hitting the town, a package featuring a 39-page short story titled “Occupant” and written by newbie Victor Sweetser saw offers zoom from a 25,000 option to a final purchase price of high mid-six figures. There were numerous studios and filmmakers fighting in the trenches for the project — Paramount, Lionsgate, Amazon — but in the end it was New Line that won it.
The early February brouhaha illustrates the hot streak of Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind last year’s horror hit Barbarian, which cost 4.5 million to make and then grossed more than 40 million domestically for 20th Century Studios. Cregger is attached to produce Occupant along with frequent partner Roy Lee and Scott Glassgold, who originated and developed the project. Occupant is described as a reverse haunted house story. Instead of a family moving into an abode, here a historical house...
