Hulu has unveiled the official trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s Faraway Downs TV series starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, ahead of its November 26 launch.
The story centers on an English aristocrat, Lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman) who travels halfway across the world to confront her wayward husband and sell an unusual asset: a million-acre cattle ranch in the Australian Outback called Faraway Downs. Following the death of her husband, a ruthless Australian cattle baron, King Carney (Bryan Brown), plots to take her land and she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle drover (Jackman) to protect her ranch. The sweeping adventure romance is explored through the eyes of young Nullah (Brandon Walters), a bi-racial Indigenous Australian child caught up in the government’s draconian racial policy now referred to as the “Stolen Generations.”
Luhrmann also directed Oscar-nominated 2008 movie Australia and he returns for the Hulu series, which debuts in two...

Baz Luhrmann is looking at the benefits of streaming content.
The “Elvis” director recut his 2008 epic “Australia” for a Hulu limited series titled “Faraway Downs.” The film followed an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) who inherits a cattle range run by a cattle drover (Hugh Jackman). The limited series will have a new ending and a new soundtrack; “Australia” originally shot three endings, with only one making it into the theatrical release.
“I was inspired to re-approach my film ‘Australia’ to create ‘Faraway Downs’ because of the way episodic storytelling has been reinvigorated by the streaming world,” Luhrmann said in a press statement. “With over two million feet of film from the original piece, my team and I were able to revisit anew the central themes of the work.”
Six-episode limited series “Faraway Downs” will premiere at the closing night of the inaugural SXSW Sydney Screen Festival October 21, with Luhrmann in attendance.

Director Jonás Cuarón reimagines the terrifying mythical beast as a cute and furry little creature in Netflix’s Chupa. The two-minute trailer for the family-friendly adventure confirms this incredibly adorable baby chupacabra looks nothing like a goat-killing, nightmare-inducing monster.
“I was a small kid when the legend started. When the idea came of turning [the myth] on its head and using it to tell a family adventure, I was immediately excited,” said Cuarón in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “I’ve always been a huge fan of E.T. and believe that stories like that are so powerful because they play on the idea of kids being misunderstood by adults. Chupa might be a monster but he’s the only one that truly understands what Alex is going through. The bond between a boy and a creature is so pure, like with a pet, it transcends language.”

Although Netflix’s family adventure Chupa is inspired by the legend of the chupacabra, director Jonás Cuarón was determined to make the creature at the heart of his film much less fearsome than the mythical creature. “Our goal was to create an incredibly cute creature based on a terrifying legend,” said Cuarón in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “The mythical creature was described as a hairless dog with wings and sharp teeth. Chupa is furry and incredibly cute.”
The first photos from Chupa confirm this creature, at least as a youngster, is anything but terrifying.
Cuarón added: “I’ve always been a huge fan of E.T. and believe that stories like that are so powerful because they play on the idea of kids being misunderstood by adults. Chupa might be a monster, but he’s the only one that truly...

Jay-Z was front and center at the star-studded screening of his upcoming film The Harder They Fall in Los Angeles on Oct. 13. The premiere brought out a bunch of famous faces - including Winnie Harlow, Karrueche Tran, Kehlani, and, of course, his wife, Beyoncé - but he clearly had no idea Kelly Rowland would be in attendance, because he had the cutest reaction when he spotted her on the red carpet. Netflix's official Twitter account shared a clip of the sweet moment, showing Jay-z's genuine surprise at seeing his friend. "I didn't even know you were here," he told Kelly as he gave her a big hug.
In a recent Instagram Live, Kelly reacted to the now-viral moment, saying she didn't understand why it was such a big deal since she and Jay-Z see each other all the time. "Some things I will never understand," Kelly said. "I see...

After months of speculation, the full cast line-up for Quentin Tarantino’s next pic, The Hateful Eight, has officially been announced. Following Deadline’s breaking news this morning, which suggested Channing Tatum was circling a part in the western, The Weinstein Company delivered a press release to verify the rumours.
The statement outlines an impressive list of names that’ve long since been linked to the project and who precisely they’ll be playing. Those we already knew; Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen and Bruce Dern comprise the main cast, with Tarantino newcomers Demian Bichir and yes, Channing Tatum rounding out the full roster. The last minute ‘tacking on’ of Tatum’s involvement in the release suggests it was hastily included in a rush after Deadline’s scoop. Here in the Us we have Hollywood, a center of filmmaking so cemented into the global economy that it seems no economic crisis can cripple it. However, in many, many other developed nations, films are made in part from support from government funding. This is true of Spain, The United Kingdom, and Iceland to name a few. But THR reports that the government of Iceland is currently considering cutting film funding by a whopping 40%, and Hollywood is responding with outcry. Directors like Clint Eastwood, Darren Aronofsky, Terrence Malick, and producers like David Beniof, Chris Newman, G. Mac Brown, and Beau Marks have all signed a petition that declares they side "with the entire film community in Iceland, in their efforts to maintain the current levels of government support for filmmaking." The petition and its big names are calling for the Icelandic government "to reconsider their current plans to cut the...

As the Icelandic Film Fund is battling proposed government cuts of 40% for 2014, a group of filmmakers has signed a statement of support for the Icelandic industry.
The supporters include Clint Eastwood, Darren Aronofsky and Terrence Malick, whose films Flags of Our Fathers, Noah and Tree Of Life have all shot partially in Iceland.
As Screen previously reported, more than 200 jobs could be lost because of the proposed cuts. In its 2014 budget, the Icelandic government is proposing a 40% cut to the Icelandic Film Fund, the organisation that supports Icelandic filmmaking through screenwriting, development and production grants. This is the second time in recent years that the Icelandic government has planned to deliver such a blow to local industry — In 2010 the government had proposed a 35% cut to the fund, but eventually enacted 25%.
The second round of budget talks will be held on Dec 13 (Friday) with the final bill to be voted on next week.

Chicago – Sofia Coppola’s films are intriguing in a way that’s often difficult to put into words. I often find my attention drifting during my initial viewing of them, and yet they somehow manage to linger in my mind long after others have faded. Her problematic costume drama, “Marie Antoinette,” has become one of my favorite films to leave on in the background of a room, simply for the pleasure of dwelling in its subtly nuanced atmosphere.
Since Coppola grew up as a member of Hollywood royalty, she often finds herself drawn to protagonists—an unattainable teenage beauty, a reigning queen and two internationally renowned celebrities—whose lives are viewed under a microscope. “Antoinette” appeared to be Coppola’s most painstakingly autobiographical effort yet, since it could be read as a symbolic account of her own privileged upbringing, in which she was prematurely thrust into the realm of public...

In an attempt to develop a new story line for the upcoming Men in Black sequel, Will Smith and executive producer G. Mac Brown were spotted on a “fact finding mission,” according to Space Coast Film Commissioner Bonnie King.
The intel, which comes from tcpalm, does not confirm that shooting will be there but rather says there is a chance that Mib 3-D will be the next film to shoot over at Kennedy Space Center. Right now Transformers 3 is finishing up its shooting in Brevard County before it heads on over to DC.
It has been eight years since Mib 2 hit theaters and it won’t be for another two years that we will get to see its follow up in 3D. The tentative release date for the alien ass kicking duo is May 25, 2012.

- I'm not sure if motherhood entered the picture, but it has been a long time since we saw Sofia Coppola behind the camera. Having locked up distribution deals in several territories, she and Focus Features appear to be fully immersed in the pre-production stages of her fourth feature film. She has already found her cast in Elle Fanning and career comeback kid Stephen Dorff, they have the shooting dates in place and she definitely has her sights on a specific sight. If you look at her last two pictures, I think it's safe to say that Coppola is all about location, location location. I'm not sure how much revenue Hollywood's Chateau Marmont would lose to a film shoot, but its safe to say that they will get some great publicity from the event. Somewhere centers on a bad-boy actor stumbling through a life of excess at the celebrity locale,
