Electronic Arts’ chief financial officer, Stifel Nicolaus, has announced that the publisher is still making games for Nintendo’s Wii U console, however, he did confirm that the majority of their resources are focused on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One development.
As reported by IGN, Nicolaus revealed the surprising news during the Stifel Nicolaus 2013 Internet, Media and Communications Conference, adding:
“You know, I think Nintendo’s business was more [an] extension of their last console. I think what the consumer will find is a lot more powerful gameplay with the new boxes that are coming out, and a lot of excitement, but it’ll remain to be seen as to the services associated with those as to how consumers decide which direction they might want to go.”

Two years ago at E3 2011 Electronic Arts former-ceo John Riccitiello stood on stage next to Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata and proclaimed that there was a “breakthrough in [their] relationship with Nintendo, based on a stunning breakthrough in game technology. What Nintendo’s new console [the Wii U] delivers speaks directly to the players of EA Sports and EA games.”
Now, just six months after Nintendo launched the Wii U in North America, the “breakthrough” relationship appears to be official over, as Electronic Arts has confirmed that they have no further games in development for the console.
“We have no games in development for the Wii U currently,” Electronic Arts spokesperson Jeff Brown told Kotaku earlier this week — although he later left open the possibility that EA might resume development in the future.

I was kind of hoping we as a society had moved past this kind of bigotry but I guess not, according to reports EA has been the subject of an anti-gay letter writing campaign because of in some of their recent games (Mass Effect 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic) have included same-sex relationships.
EA has received ”several thousand” letters complaining about the use of same-sex relationships in their games. The letters have been sent to multiple senior leaders at EA and many of them include a threat to boycott the company and future games.
However, EA has stated they will continue to include Lgbt characters in their games and EA’s chief spokesperson Jeff Brown had this to say:
“Every one of EA’s games includes Esrb content descriptors so it’s hard to believe anyone is surprised by the content. This isn’t about protecting children, it’s about political harassment.

Not only are fans of Call of Duty and Battlefield 3 going at it as to which game will be better, the executives at Activision and EA are exchanging words over the two games. Eric Hirshberg publishing boss at Activision last week stated that all this mudslinging is bad for the industry after EA claimed that they want the Call of Duty series to “rot from the core”.
EA has now gone at Activision again this time Jeff Brown EA’s corporate communications chief stated:
“Welcome to the big leagues Eric, I know you’re new in the job but someone should have told you this is a competitive industry. You’ve got every reason to be nervous. Last year Activision had a 90% share in the shooter category. This year, Battlefield 3 is going to take you down to 60 or 70. At that rate, you’ll be out of the category in 2-3 years.

Stanley Lambchop is just like every other kid except for one thing--he is flat. His father gave him a bulletin board at a young age and when it falls off the wall over his bed, it lands on him and smooshes him down to no wider than a sheet of paper. Fortunately for him he survives unscathed aside from his minor deformation, and does what any other flat person would do: foil art gallery robberies by posing as a paintings, and most exciting of all travel to distant lands via envelope. Conceived in 1964 by Jeff Brown, Flat Stanley is finally getting the big screen treatment after 47 years, six books (not including those written by other authors), and a nationwide .Flat Stanley Project. which had youngsters creating their own Flat Stanley cutouts and shipping them all over the world where recipients take pictures of themselves in exotic places and send them...

One of the most difficult things for a filmmaker to do is to create truly three dimensional characters. We're not talking about 3-D technology, of course, but rather the tricky process of crafting a character who truly comes to life on the screen; one wrong move and you're left with a character who falls flat.
Now imagine how hard it's going to be for the people behind "Flat Stanley."
Yes, get out your "Flat Stanley" cutouts, because Deadline is reporting that Walden Media has landed the rights to adapt the popular series of kids books for the big screen.
"Flat Stanley," for those of you wondering, first charmed kids back in 1964 thanks to author Jeff Brown's story about a kid who is literally flattened when a bulletin board falls on him. He's totally fine, though, and ends up using his powers of ultimate flatness to entertain himself and even occasionally fight crime.

Walden Media has acquired film rights to Jeff Brown's children's book series "Flat Stanley" about a two-dimensional person stuck in a 3D world says Deadline.
The adventures follow Stanley Lambchop, a kid who is given a bulletin board by his father to put above his bed. One night it falls off and flattens him. He's fine other than the fact he's now two-dimensional.
He can now can slip under doors, pose as a kite, and solves an art heist by posing as a wall painting.
The film will be shot live action, with visual effects being employed to turn the lead character into a literally flat hero. John Carls will produce.

Studio behind Narnia movies has bought the rights to Jeff Brown's children's books. But will the dimensionally challenged boy appear in 2D, 3D or both?
With his cheerful disposition and determination to turn what some might see as a disability into an advantage, he's truly a hero for the modern age – if not a character obviously ripe for the 3D era. Flat Stanley, the young boy who survives being crushed to the depth of a postage stamp by a bulletin board placed above his bed, is to become the star of a live action film from the makers of the Narnia movies.

Nearly everyone who spent time in elementary school since 1995 should be familiar with Flat Stanley after being forced to craft your own two-dimensional paper hero and send him away with a family member or friend for adventures to share with your class. Well, now Deadline reports Walden Media, the company behind the adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia series, has picked up the rights to Jeff Brown's series of books which started way back in 1964. Our hero, Stanley Lambchop, is given a bulletin board by his father to put above his bed only to have it fall off the wall and flatten him in the middle of the night. This might seem like more of an inconvenience, but then Stanley realizes he can slip under doors, entertain himself and his brother by becoming a kite, and visit his friends by mailing himself in an envelope. Walden Media has acquired the screen rights the the 1964 children's book series Flat Stanley. The books were written by Jeff Brown, and it follows the adventures of a two-dimensional person stuck in a 3D world. The film will be shot in live-action, but the lead character will be added digitally to the film in one-dimension. That should look interesting.
Here's a description of the story:
Stanley Lambchop and his younger brother Arthur are given a big bulletin board by their Dad for displaying pictures and posters. He hangs it on the wall over Stanley's bed. During the night the board falls from the wall, flattening Stanley in his sleep. He survives and makes the best of his altered state, and soon he is entering locked rooms by sliding under the door, and playing with his younger brother by being used as a kite. Exclusive: Walden Media has acquired film rights to Flat Stanley, the series of children's books created in 1964 by Jeff Brown about the adventures of a two-dimensional person stuck in a 3D world. The plan is to shoot the film live action, using visual effects to turn the lead character into a one-dimensional hero (why do I feel like I've given Deadline commenters a wealth of ammunition to discuss the current state of 3D and certain leading actors with those last two sentences?) The protagonist is Stanley Lambchop, who, after being given a bulletin board by his father to put above his bed, is flattened by it in the night. He's Ok despite his appearance and can slip under doors and entertain his brother by posing as a kite. He even solves an art heist by posing as a wall painting. The series has sold millions of copies around the world.

With the industry abuzz with Nintendo’s announcement of a next-gen home console, called Project Cafe, rumors are starting to quickly fly regarding new consoles possibilities from Microsoft Xbox and Sony’s Playstation.

Publicly, things had been rather quiet recently regarding the "unfortunate" Mexican standoff of Infinity Ward-related lawsuits between Activision and the studio's former heads Jason West and Vince Zampella. A new round of accusations has begun, however, with an updated filing that explicitly names Electronic Arts on the list of parties that Activision wants money from when all is said and done. EA, unsurprisingly, does not agree with Activision's assessment of how things went down.
Activision claims in their complaint (posted at Kotaku) that "Electronic Arts set out to destabilize, disrupt and to attempt to destroy Infinity Ward" and believes that EA hatched the alleged "scheme" as they found themselves "nable to compete with Activision and Infinity Ward."
As a result, the publishers of whatever Respawn Entertainment decides to make are now defendants in Activision's suit, which seeks $400 million in damages. EA in turn has accused Activision of being petty and not caring about facts....

EA’s Vice President of Corporate Communications, Jeff Brown validated the rumors with the statement
We moved [the release date] to [attach] the game to a better marketing window in the March quarter. This will also give the Crytek team more time to polish a great title.
EA also has titles such as Bulletstorm, Need for Speed: Shift 2, Darkspore and The Sims: Medieval slated for release in the same Quarter.

The U.S. Supreme Court is taking on the constitutionality of a proposed California law to ban the sale of video games to minors. The gaming industry already polices the sale of mature video games via the ratings of the non-profit Entertainment Software Ratings Board (Esrb), which also levees fines on stores that are caught breaking the rules. That wasn't enough for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The case to legalize a stricter law (Schwarzenegger, Gov. of CA v. Entertainment Merchants Association, argument 08-1448) will be scheduled for the highest court's next session, which begins in October.

Even more news coming out of Activision vs Infinity Ward scuffle, except this one not as aggressive. You might even be able to sense some remorse from it. According to Thomas Tippl, Activision’s COO, the company rewarded Infinity Ward handsomely with “millions of dollars”.
Tippl went on to say:
“We treat our developers extremely well. We have an independent studio model that provides them a lot of creative freedom while we take care of the back office stuff so they can focus on making games. If their games are successful, they are compensated better here than anywhere else.
We’ve been paying our talent millions of dollars for their work. Our setup provides a win-win opportunity. We ensure your work will reach a wide audience. Therefore, we have attracted, and we will continue to attract, the top talent in this industry.”
I guess it wasn’t win-win, after all,...

The civil litigation war between Activision and former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella have reached a new level, as Activision has filed a counter-suit to West and Zampella’s initial lawsuit. Activision is claiming the duo, “morphed from valued, responsible executives into insubordinate and self-serving schemers who attempted to hijack Activision’s assets for their own personal gain.” A very substantial claim, to say the least.
The suit was filed this morning by Activision, a month after West and Zampella filed their initial suit. A total of 23 pages containing some very stern (at least, legally) words from Activision:
“West and Zampella’s misdeeds formed an unlawful pattern and practice of conduct that was designed to steal the [Infinity Ward] studio, which is one of Activision’s most valuable assets — at the expense of Activision and its shareholders and for their own personal financial gain.

Electronic Arts has said that it does not intend to charge for "traditionally free game demos", despite recent suggestions from an analyst. Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter yesterday claimed that EA wants to release paid-for premium samplers ahead of a game's release to judge its potential popularity. He said that the content would be "a very long game demo, along the lines of 2009's Battlefield 1943". The "full-blown packaged game" would then be released later at full retail price. However, EA's marketing boss Jeff Brown told Kotaku that paid-for trials are among a number of options being (more)...

Mitch Lasky's got something to say.
The slowdown in video game sales has hit EA particularly hard. After laying off 1500 employees in November, the company slashed its 2010 financial forecast last week.
Mitch Lasky, a former EA exec, responded to the news by saying, “EA is in the wrong business, with the wrong cost structure and the wrong team.”
Lasky sold his mobile entertainment business to EA in 2005 for $680 million, and ran EA’s mobile division (EAMobile). Lasky backs up his argument with cost structures and financial figures. Some market analysts agree: “Investors feel betrayed,” said analyst Michael Pacter of Wedbush Morgan.
EA’s response to Lasky’s statement has a bit of history. In 2007, EA appointed John Riccitiello as the company’s CEO; shortly after, Lasky left the company. “The clear message is that Lasky wanted the job,” writes Dean Takahashi on venturebeat.com. Electronic Arts head of corporate communications Jeff Brown has responded to former colleague Mitch Lasky's disparaging comments about the publisher. Earlier in the month, Lasky used his personal blog to criticise John Riccitiello's tenure as chief executive of EA, including what he considers to be a "bankrupt strategy" for the firm. Lasky claimed that EA's "greatest failure" has been its focus on creating new IP for EA Games. He also predicted that forthcoming titles Dante's Inferno and Star Wars Mmo The Old Republic will flop. In response, Brown told Venturebeat that Lasky "needs to try decaf". He further implied (more)...

Despite the current economic downturn, Electronic Arts (EA) has pledged its commitment to developing more experimental video games in the future, reports Kotaku. EA's vice-president of communications Jeff Brown said that the publisher is able to continue forging original new material because it is "not living hand to mouth". "We can take risks because we are pretty sure our blockbusters are going to generate good revenue that allows us some cushion," he explained. "At any given moment, in (more)...
