Some might see the low-rated but award-winning “American Crime” getting canceled after Season 3 as a tragedy — but Felicity Huffman appreciates the time they got. “It’s unbelievable that [ABC] did it for three years,” she told IndieWire. “It wasn’t just like, ‘We tried it for a year. Oh, it didn’t work.’ They invested and they also gave John Ridley and Michael McDonald carte blanche. The suits never showed up to go, ‘Wait a second. Can’t you be wearing a bikini, and where’s the car chase?'”
That quality is what made “Crime” stand out amongst broadcast offerings, Ridley and McDonald bringing premium cable drama style to each season of the anthology series. All three installments enlisted a high caliber of talent, including Lily Tomlin, Timothy Hutton and Regina King, to tell three different stories about the damage we do to each other and the underlying issues that contribute to that.

Ezra Edelman’s “O.J.: Made in America” won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature last night at the 2017 Academy Awards. It was a major coup for Espn, a media behemoth known for live sports events and shows, not movies. The Evil Dead remake hasn’t shot a single frame, yet the production has already become much-maligned and exceedingly dreaded by most who hear of it. Remaking Sam Raimi‘s perennial classic of woods-set horror is enough to rile up fans, but when you bring on Juno scribe Diablo Cody? The stock in pitchforks goes up.
Studios don’t necessarily care about the feelings of those on the internet, so a press release informs us that Sony and FilmDistrict will be distributing the Fede Alvarez-directed horror picture, which should get down to shooting sometime in the next few months. (Don’t expect a big name cast on this one.) The aforementioned press release contains exactly what you’d expect from these kinds of things: People saying what a great project it’ll be, why this is the right studio to make the film, etc.
Some might be interested, though,...

There's a lot of mixed emotion surrounding this Evil Dead movie reboot being developed by Sam Raimi, Fede Alvarez, Bruce Campbell and Diablo Cody. As a fan of the horror film franchise, I'm excited to see how this is going to turn out. At the same time it sucks that Ash won't be a part of it. Sony Pictures and FilmDistrict have teamed up to distribute the movie to the masses.
As of right now the official synopsis is as follows... Five friends hole up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead. A demonic force is unleashed possessing each until only one is left to fight for survival. Other information on the film reveals that the motivation behind the trip with the lead character taking his younger sister to the family's cabin to help her kick her drug addiction.
