Disney's 3D musical-comedy Frozen is officially the highest grossing animated film of all-time, climbing over the billion-dollar mark after a strong opening weekend in Japan. The Oscar-winning flick has now grossed $1.072 billion worldwide, which breaks down to $398 million domestically and $674 million internationally. To reach that jaw-dropping top spot, Frozen had to ice out some friendly competition – the 2010 Disney/Pixar film Toy Story 3, which previously grossed $1.063 billion.

With more than 1 million album sales, an Academy Award, hundreds of millions of YouTube views and battalions of middle-school girls attempting the "Let It Go" high notes, the Frozen soundtrack today seems like an obvious smash. "When a musical grosses a billion dollars at the worldwide box office and features an inspirational album, why should we be surprised?" asks Glen Brunman, former head of Sony Music's soundtrack unit. "Even in 2014, [when] soundtrack sales are starting to remind us of a bygone era?"

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - The cast of Glee has hit a major milestone, becoming the No. 8 selling digital artist of all time, according to SoundScan. The cast, who continue to build on their record for most entries on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart, reached this milestone a mere four months after celebrating their 300th musical performance on the hit Fox show. To date, Glee has sold more than 42 million songs and more than 12 million albums worldwide. The series has two platinum albums and three gold albums. Glee: The Music, Volume 4, even picked up a Grammy nomination for best compilation soundtrack for visual media. "There has never been anything like Glee. The idea that 58 episodes of a television show can generate sales of 32 million downloads is simply staggering. We are deeply indebted to all the artists and songwriters whose music inspires us all," Columbia Records soundtrack executive Glen Brunman said of the series.

Why has Fox's "Glee" succeeded when so many musical television series have failed? Between the script, the song choices and the cast -- as well as production, marketing and Columbia Records working in lock step -- there isn't a weak link, the team behind the hit show said Friday.
Executives from Fox and Columbia joined the show's music supervisor P.J. Bloom, cast member Lea Michele and "Glee" music producer Adam Anders at the Hollywood Reporter/Billboard Film & TV Music Conference to discuss what's driven millions of "Glee" song downloads and two forthcoming soundtrack volumes.
From the beginning, the strategy for setting up partnerships for the show was very different. Rather than keeping the pilot a secret, Fox presented it to as many music publishers and record labels as it could to get them on board for clearances from the get-go, said 20th Century Fox Television head of music Geoff Bywater.
