Fritz Bukofzer was born in Prussia (now Poland). He moved to France in 1937, and produced his first film, 'L'Alibi", with the company Films B.N. With his wife he moved to the South of France, at the outbreak of War, then returning to Pairs and living with false papers, when the Sth of France was occupied. He made several well known films, with his company "Films Tellus", after the war. The best known, and quite a controversial success, was "La Neige etait sale", based on a Simenon book. Several other controversial projects were not brought to completion - the most interesting being a story based on a Hans Fallada novel, with the projected script being by Jean Genet.
Fritz died in Switzerland.
