Which new Saturday action gameshow deserves to wear Total Wipeout's crown? Den Of Geek investigates...
Saturday nights are all about falling over. Just look at your average British town centre and you’ll see people all over the ground, stranded where they fell. And Saturday night TV is no different.
But since the sad loss of Total Wipeout in 2012, the people of our televisions have been too upright. There just haven’t been the obstacle courses around to trip them up. That’s all changed though, with the BBC’s The Getaway Car taking on ITV’s Ninja Warrior UK in the family-friendly 7pm-ish timeslot.
But are either of them a worthy successor to the great of the genre?

Joey Essex and Jimmy Carr will take part in celebrity specials of Channel 4's Benchmark.
Other stars include Amanda Byram, Vic Reeves, Lesley Joseph, John Thomson and Mark Watson.
James Haskell, Edwina Currie and Jason Byrne will also feature.
Each of the five specials, airing on primetime, sees one celebrity hoping to win up to £50,000 for their chosen charity, with help from the ten 'Benchmarkers'.
The Benchmarkers must answer tricky numerical general knowledge questions, with their answers setting the benchmark. The main contestant then has to decide whether the correct answer is higher or lower.
Host Paddy McGuinness said: "You've got the genius of the show itself, combined with the mayhem involved when you throw a bunch of celebrities into the mix. It's going to be brilliant.
"The only thing I'm worried about is how long the recordings are going to take. That, and getting a word in edgeways.

American Idol was announced to be coming to an end after 15 seasons yesterday (May 12), but did you know that Ryan Seacrest used to have a co-host?
Brian Dunkleman hosted the Fox competition's first season alongside Ryan Seacrest, before the latter took sole control. History has not been kind to poor old Brian since, with Fox TV CEO Dana Walden joking about a possible reunion for the pair.
"Where is Brian Dunkleman? If you give me his number, I will call and invite him," she joked, though Dunkleman gave as good as he got last night:
I knew American Idol would never last without me #Cancelled

To honour Dunkleman, we have collected a few hosts of massive shows that you may have cruelly forgotten, starting with the man himself.

After Sunday night's premiere of Fox's "Utopia" much of the conversation was about embarrassingly alcoholic contestants, poorly concealed pregnancies and pixelated nudity. But garnering nearly as much conversation as Huntress Hex, Drunken Buffoon Josh and Polyamorous Dedeker was the show's on-screen narrator, the immaculately dressed, carefully mustachioed Dan Piraro. I chatted with Piraro on Sunday afternoon after seeing only a few early minutes of footage, which was enough to know that he could hardly be more different from Fox's legacy of reality hosts ranging from Ryan Seacrest to Mario Lopez to Monica Lewinsky to Cat Deeley. It isn't just the infinitely twirlable facial hair or the fact that "Utopia" enlisted a frontman who has passed out of Fox's coveted 18-49 demographic. Piraro arrives on "Utopia" with an established career in a field rarely mined for reality hosting gigs. Since 1985, Piraro's single-panel comic "Bizarro" has been syndicated in hundreds of newspapers,...

'Total Wipeout' has been axed. The BBC One Saturday night game show - which sees contestants tackle a number of wacky obstacle course challenges - will return for one more series before being taken off TV screens. Looking like an energetic sperm, Richard Hammond ponders how many silly poses he must make until he gets paid.
Total Wipeout, a comedy gameshow hosted by Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram, has been axed by the BBC, it has been confirmed today.
The show, which has run for 4 years, will finish after one final run.
The BBC programme which saw contestants race along an obstacle course in the hopes of winning a cash prize has been an incredibly successful show for the BBC, peaking with over 5 million viewers on average. Sadly however, 2011′s spin off ‘Winter Wipeout’ averaged less than 4 million per episode which, though respectable, most likely isn’t enough for Saturday prime time and has left the show surplus to requirements for the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Sky1's Don't Stop Me Now is a talent show, which is designed to be more fun when the acts fail than when they succeed. If an act loses the support of the audience, they can fire, drop or bungee acts out of the studio in hilarious fashion. However, tonight's launch episode wasn't all giggles and silliness. The Amanda Byram show managed to find its very own SuBo act in singer Matthew Hewitt. He didn't (more)...

The presenter confessed that she split from her partner of three and a half years "for no apparent real reason", though her trips to film Total Wipeout in Argentina were a contributing factor. Byram told Hello: "No break up is easy, especially when you're engaged. You've promised yourself to a person and when you break that promise for no apparent real reason, it's hurtful all round. "We're both gutted and in a really hurt place. You realise absence doesn't make the heart (more)...

Sky1 talent show Don't Stop Me Now has signed up a selection of top name guests including Chris Moyles and Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding. Don't Stop Me Now is Sky1's attempt to provide a talent show with a twist as the entertainment derives from "getting rid of the dross" rather than sob stories, nasty judges and video montages. Hosted by Amanda Byram, the series will feature singers, comedians and variety acts performing for a studio audience in the hope of winning £25,000. However, if they get voted off the show, the act will be literally ejected from the studio. Methods of exit include horizontal bungees, exploding stages and trap doors. Steve Jones is still a bit of an unknown commodity to most Americans, so having him host their special 'Countdown to the Emmys' (Sun., 7Pm Et on Fox), was a great move by the network. It gives us some face-time with the man who will be the host of 'The X Factor.'
As it is likely to be the biggest show of the fall, he may be on the cusp of Ryan Seacrest levels of fame. On the way, though, he may have freaked out Rob Lowe a little bit. Luckily, Lowe's sons appeared to freak him out even more directly afterward.
First, after Amanda Byram was interviewing Lowe and his family in a very traditional way for a while, Jones interjected. "Rob, if I may," he said. "I would like to tear your face off and put it on my face."
