Not only was DC’s Stargirl an apparent casualty of the changes underway at The CW under new owner Nexstar, but a potential spinoff may have been thrown out with the bath water.
Back in Season 2, the DC series introduced the character of Jennie Hayden aka Jade (played by Ysa Penarejo), the daughter of Green Lantern Alan Scott. Having aged out of a group home, Jennie at the time was struggling with her own, recently discovered green energy-based powers, while also wondering where her twin brother Todd had landed.

As a teenager, Julianne Nicholson was a Marilyn Monroe “fangirl”. The Emmy-winning star of Mare of Easttown and the jungle thriller Monos devoured every book she could find on her. She watched her films, listened to compilation albums of her songs, had photographs of her taped up in her locker. “I was obsessed,” she recalls. “I thought she was so beautiful and tragic and kind of unknowable.” Now, a few decades later, she’s playing her mother in a movie so incendiary that everyone involved – including star Ana de Armas – has been forced to rush to its defence. Nicholson, to her credit, admits that it won’t be for everyone. Particularly those who don’t want to see her as a child abuser in the grips of schizophrenia.
If Blonde is a Marilyn Monroe biopic that’s been doused in petrol and set on fire, Nicholson plays the match that ignites it.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Sacrament,” the series finale of “Mare of Easttown.”
HBO’s “Mare of Easttown” almost did not end with Mare (Kate Winslet) finally ascending into the attic, where her son died by suicide.
“We said, Does it feel like we’re doing two endings? Do we really need Mare going in the attic?” Winslet recalled during a live Instagram Q&a hosted by the network and moderated by Variety‘s senior artisans editor, Jazz Tangcay, on Tuesday.
Winslet, who executive produces the seven-part limited series in addition to starring in it, said she had conversations with creator Brad Ingelsby and director Craig Zobel about whether or not the show should just end at the powerful moment between her character and Lori (Julianne Nicholson). The team decided to shoot the scene and determine whether they would use it or not when they were in post.

This week on The Affair, another brief glimpse into the future reveals the fate of Joshua Jackson’s Cole Lockhart.
In the closing moments of Episode 4, Joanie takes Alison’s bike out for a ride to the Lockhart family burial site. Among those six feet under is her father, Cole, whose whereabouts (or lack thereof) had not been fully addressed before Sunday’s installment. In the scene, Joanie crouches down in the graveyard and says, “Hi, Dad.” We then cut to a closeup of Cole’s tombstone, which implies that her father lived to be 74 years old. His cause of death is not disclosed.

From the fictional town of Dillon, Texas, to a whole new fictional country—that seems to be the latest trajectory for Zach Gilford, who’s joined the cast of USA’s upcoming original drama pilot Stanistan.

The plot thickens for Jennifer Carpenter‘s character on USA Network's “Stanistan” pilot with two new castings. Zach Gilford and Jonathan Cake have been cast in the drama pilot, which follows the staff at the American compound in the fictional country of Stanistan, Usaid, where State Department workers, covert CIA officers and journalists strike a delicate balance of danger and levity. Carpenter plays public affairs officer Marcie Post. Gilford will play Phillip Guthrey, an Infrastructure Manager for Usaid. Phillip is Marcie's (Carpenter) closest friend in the country, and though he'd like for their friendship to become something more, his unrequited love is.

Doll & Em director Azazel Jacobs: "I'm interested in looking at humans and seeing how people are with each other" Photo: Anne-Katrin Titze After the premiere screening at New York's Museum of Modern Art of all six episodes of King Bee Productions and HBO's Doll & Em, starring Emily Mortimer and Dolly Wells, I met up with director Azazel Jacobs to talk about the spirit of place in Hollywood and how it allows him to communicate with Charlie Chaplin, on site with Roman Polanski's Chinatown, Joseph L Mankiewicz, Laurel and Hardy. He told me about the human growing from an idea and why tone triumphs over story.
We see Bradley Cooper stay on the red carpet, Jonathan Cake practice a pick-up line worthy of Hong Sang-soo, while ice cream determines master and servant.
Anne-Katrin Titze: The series producer Alessandro Nivola told me that the idea started with seeing Michael Winterbottom's The Trip.

Real-life BFFs Emily Mortimer (Newsroom) and Dolly Wells (Bridget Jones’s Diary) write and star on Doll & Em (Wednesdays at 10 p.m.), HBO’s latest L.A. meta-comedy about a movie star (Mortimer) who hires her childhood pal (Wells) as an assistant. (Possible alternate title: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Ladies!) But once you clear the velvet rope, it’s apparent that Doll and Em is, at its heart, a portrait of female friendship rather than a Hollywood confidential.
The comedy — which is partly improvised, but never reaches laugh-out-loud levels of funny — debuts with back-to-back episodes, and good thing, considering the premiere is a bit anemic.

There's a star-studded approach to casting in Jez Butterworth's play about London gangs, Mojo. Harry Potter's Rupert Grint makes his stage debut after years of Ron Weasley, while Downton Abbey's Mr Bates (Brendan Coyle) adds to his years of fine theatrical endeavour. The top-notch cast also includes Ben Whishaw (Skyfall, Peter And Alice) and Daniel Mays (Mrs Biggs). Mojo, featuring rival gangs and grisly goings-on in 1950s Soho over the kidnap of a teenage pop star, was the first debut play to be performed on the Royal Court's main stage in 40 years since the kitchen-sink classic Look Back In Anger. It was a huge success, becoming a film in 1997, and Butterworth has since written the multi-award-winning Jerusalem. A surefire hit return.

Desperate Housewives has been off the air since May, but the Wisteria Lane drama isn’t quite over. No, Nicollette Sheridan hasn’t landed her retrial, but ABC is venturing back to Fairview with the DVD releases of Desperate Housewives: The Complete Eighth and Final Season, as well as Desperate Housewives: The Complete Collection. As usual, the DVDs feature a bevy of extras — featurettes about the show’s deaths and goodbyes and a blooper real, for starters. And then, of course, there’s the deleted scenes, two of which EW has exclusively here as a preview for you.

Plus, Susan makes a shocking discovery about Mike! It's ironic that the April 1 episode of Desperate Housewives began with a monologue about how Bree (Marcia Cross) feels everything must go according to plan, because all the while, she had no idea someone was working on a nasty plan of their own -- against her! After being arrested for murder at Rene's (Vanessa Williams) bridal shower, Bree tried to enlist the help of hot-shot lawyer Trip Weston (Scott Bakula), but he initially shot her down -- until the case got really interesting. The detective claimed to have found a map of Wisteria Lane with Bree's address circled among Ramon Sanchez's belongings, but the audience knows what's really going on: Yes, Ramon had a map of the lane, but it was the detective who fabricated the connection to Bree. My question is: What's this guy up to? I know he was...

Mary Alice (Brenda Strong) "Whenever Bree van de Kamp (Marcia Cross) was feeling low, she found solace in the act of baking...when her first husband passed away she baked coffee cake...when her second husband went to jail she made sugar cookies. So when Bree's best friends stopped speaking to her she thought hot cherry scones might thaw their chilly relationships." Susan (Teri Hatcher) doesn't answer the door and Juanita (Madison de La Garza) claims Gaby (Eva Longoria) is in church, but it's Thursday. She was told to say that. Lynette (Felicity Huffman) replies she wonders why no one will talk to Bree. "Bake your way out of this one." She's isolated. Lynette calls her controlling which is what she tried to do to them, but that's just Lynette talking about herself. She's controlling and manipulative as this episode will show. Mary Alice: "There is nothing more peaceful than sounds of Wisteria Lane at night...murmur of neighbour's television...hum of the street lamps...song of the nightbirds. Wisteria Lane is so peaceful that even the slightest disturbance can be very alarming." Lynette doesn't think Susan would have moved the body and calls her 'Cuckoo', so they can imagine what she would do if she knew Alejandro was missing. They leave it to Bree. The same mystery person who sent the Mary Alice-esque letter to Bree (Marcia Cross) in the season premiere gifted her with a follow-up note this week: "You're welcome." Politeness has never been so chilling. And the fact that Bree was even alive to receive said note means she didn't end up killing herself, like we feared she would.
