Raj Kapoor Was Known For Throwing The Best Holi Parties & Here’s How Amitabh Bachchan Was Reborn ( Photo Credit – Yrf / YouTube )
The 70s saw the rise of one of the biggest superstars in this country. When Amitabh Bachchan was born, it was just a matter of a few years ago, and he rose to the top as the Angry Young Man of Bollywood. But then came a time when he hit rock bottom, and it was none other than Raj Kapoor who cheered him up at a Holi Party.
The showman was famous for his Holi parties in Bollywood. At one such party, he noticed a disheartened Big B standing aloof. While everyone was too busy enjoying the Holi festivities, none noticed how distressed the Deewar actor was.

Shivkumar Sharma, Hindustani classical musician and co-composer of several memorable Bollywood film soundtracks for the late Yash Chopra, died on Tuesday in Mumbai. He was 84.
Sharma, addressed by the honorific Pandit, had kidney related ailments for the past six months and eventually succumbed to a cardiac arrest.
Born in Jammu, Northern India, Sharma became a exponent of the classical instrument santoor. Already well known in Hindustani music circles, he shot to international prominence in 1967 when he recorded the album “Call of the Valley” alongside his long time collaborator flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia and guitarist Brij Bhushan Kabra for Emi.
While their classical music careers flourished, Sharma and Chaurasia also composed several Bollywood film soundtracks for eminent filmmaker Yash Chopra, beginning with “Silsila” (1981), starring Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Jaya Bachchan and Sanjeev Kumar. Under the screen credit Shiv-Hari, they composed seven more soundtracks for Chopra including “Faasle” (1985). “Vijay” (1988) “Chandni” (1989) “Lamhe” (1991) “Parampara...

Yash Chopra was always in love with “love”. He portrayed love on the silver screen with the imagination of the purest lover, including shades of different phases of love in life. “Chandni” was released in 1989 and was one of the matured love triangles of Indian cinema of that period, crafted with some brilliant acting, cinematography and music, under the guidance of a class director. Though for me “ Lamhe” (1991) has been the best movie by Yash Chopra, “Chandni” was more appealing to the masses and became a big hit in the late eighties, making Sridevi a household name in India.
“Chandni” screened at Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles
Beautiful and bubbly Punjabi girl Chandni ( Sridevi) meets Rohit ( Rishi Kapoor) in a marriage ceremony. Rohit falls for the charm of Chandni instantly and proposes for marriage. But the complications start due to the social differences of the two families, although the love story continues.

Subhash Ghai refused to part with the title Hero for Jackie Shroff's son Tiger's launch as a leading man in producer Sajid Nadiadwala's film. Sajid's film had to be titled Heropanti, though both Sajid and Jackie keenly wanted Hero. But now Sajid Nadiadwala has had his revenge. He has taken the rights of the legendary flute based theme from Ghai's Hero, leaving Salman Khan who is producing the remake of Hero with Sooraj Panscholi, high and dry. Salman has been heard asking what a remake of Hero would be like without the flute music that made the film so special. Says a source close to the Hero remake, "Salman was very keen to get the songs and music of the original Hero from Subhash Ghai. But while selling the remake rights of the film to Salman, Ghai revealed that the rights of all the songs and music...

Chandni was a 1989 romantic blockbuster starring Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna. The film was directed and produced by the late and legendary Yash Chopra and is often revered as one of the most successful Bollywood films of all time, as well as the film which ended the violent era in Hindi Cinema.
The movie is a classic love triangle. Chandni (Sridevi) and Rohit (Kapoor) fall instantly in love at a friend’s wedding. Romance ensues, Chandni and Rohit are engaged but Rohit meets with a tragic accident that binds him to a wheelchair. Rohit’s family blames Chandni for his fate and Rohit too pushes her away, as he is convinced that he will no longer be able to make her happy. “Bansuri Guru” a documentary film on the life and music of flute Maestro Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia releases on April 12
Films Division (Fd), the central government’s film arm, will create history with the commercial release of “Bansuri Guru”, a feature length documentary on the life of flute maestro Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia on April 12. This will be the first commercial release of an Fd film in its 65 year old history.
That’s not all. If the film clicks with the audiences, Fd has plans to regularly release feature length documentaries in commercial theatres. “With this release we want to test the audience response. We don’t have any budget for promotion as of now; however, we’re relying on the social media. If this experiment works, there could be a paradigm shift in the way documentaries are released in the country.” says V.S. Kundu, the Director General of Films Division.

Films that gained a ‘cult following’ over the years, despite being unnoticed on release
Silsila
Yash Chopra is looked upon as the grandfather of candyfloss romance, an antithesis to the more ‘artistic’ genre of films. One wonders why. Here’s what his early films were about:
Unwed mothers and illegitimate children – Dhool ka Phool (1959)
Partition and the rise of Hindu fundamentalism – Dharmputra (1961)
Taut, song less thriller about a fugitive, a lone woman and a corpse – Ittefaq (1969)
A man who lives with his wife and the ‘other woman’, Hindi Cinema’s first Ménage à trois- Daag (1973)
In 1981, we had another of his equally risqué works, Silsila. Expectedly, sparks flew when the Screen God of the time shared screen space with the reigning diva. Rekha and Amitabh were quite an item on screen and allegedly, off screen too. The grapevine has it that Chopra was inspired to make Silsila on this relationship...

What better country to make a film about the internet age than India, the largest It labor exporting country? This serene, visual contemplation on the nature of the virtual world and finding one's identity in it starts with an ironic quote: "I had a dream about reality. It was such a relief to wake up." by a Polish aphorist Stanislaw J. Lec, which sets the tone of The Image Threads.
An It professor named Hari, 'pimping (in his own words)' the information technology laborers to the Us and Europe, narrates most of the film in philosophical monologue. He sometimes engages in conversations online with a virtual persona who might be either a sultry female model or a man in a mini-skirt or both. Other times he recalls his black magic priest grandfather.
At one point, parallels are drawn between internet virus and the Plague by a girl seductively treading around him,...

Film: ‘Vettaikaran’; Director: Babu Sivan; Cast: Vijay, Anushka Shetty, Salim Ghouse, Srihari, Srinath; Music: Vijay Anthony; Rating: **
Vijay, touted to be the next Tamil superstar, continues to ride on worn-out masala films without any attempt at novelty.
‘Vettaikaran’, directed by debutant Babu Sivan, is Vijay’s 49th film and the actor seems to be satisfied with the no-risk commercial formula to maintain his position in the industry. The movie, however, fails to live up to expectations even as a commercial flick, as it seems like a collage of many previous films made in the same genre by directors like Dharani, Hari and.

‘Lucky’ – ‘Costly’: perhaps, these terms have been often addressed upon the latest matinee idol of Kollywood. Aye! The sensuous missy with cherubic looks Thamannah bags these valuable titles.
The actress has almost got 4 releases this year, amongst which ‘Ayan’, ‘Padikadhavan’ and ‘Kanden Kadhalai’ turned to be biggest hits while ‘Anandha Thandavam’ won her laurels. Now, she has got 3 films in hand – Vijay’s ‘Sura’, Dhanush untitled film directed by Hari and Karthi starrer ‘Paiyya’.
Wow! That’s something more tremendous about signing half a dozen of films within 6 months of time. The actress now prefers to give her Tadkal call sheets based on the amount paid by her producers. It’s almost like ‘bidding’ process.
But the producers are willing to pay her more, since she is said to be the ‘lucky’ icon.
