His book on British Pubs "What's Yours?" was used as a reference book
in the making of Saloon Bar (1940) and this brought him to the attention of
Ealing Studios where he became a regular writer (15 films from 1943 -
1957).
He was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1952 King's New Year Honours List for his services to the film industry.
