Résistant in the Chartres region during WWII, he became known as a journalist while being also a philosophy professor and author. His polemical actions can be shown in his famous « Messieurs les censeurs, bonsoir ! » on French TV in December 1971. He was one of the founders of Libération newspaper. He won the Médicis prize for one of his novels.
