At the climax of Joel Schumacher's 1995 film "Batman Forever," the title hero (Val Kilmer) treks out to a foreboding island where the Riddler (Jim Carrey) is hiding out with an infernal machine and a kidnapping victim. He flies there in his Batwing airplane, while Robin (Chris O'Donnell) follows in a newly built Batboat, a ridged, H.R. Giger-like hydrofoil with an enormous bat tail. Batman and Robin stand next to the Boat for one scene as Robin gets in. In the following scene, Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones) misfires missiles at the Batboat from the Riddler's home base, handily blowing it up. It was on screen for maybe two minutes. Why take a Batboat at all?
The cynicism within all of us will instantly point out that the Batboat was included in "Batman Forever" for purely commercial reasons; it was clearly an excuse for Warner Bros. to market one additional...

Dragon Dynasty
Stars: Federico Castelluccio, Aaron Hendry, Dion Basco, Stana Katic, Peter Kwong, James Hong | Written by Berkeley Anderson | Directed by Matt Codd
When Syfy films are thought up they must sound good on paper, it’s just a shame that many of them never get to the screen in good shape. Come up with an adequate story and a dream that CGI will add in all the entertainment value then hope for the best, the question has to be will CGI dragons been good enough for Dragon Dynasty?
Marco and his small group of explorers from Europe are the first to visit China and look for chances to trade, although the emperor is happy to have them there some are not, namely Shang Sel who works against the wishes of the emperor and releases dragons to kill the European visitors. As Marco and his group return home they are...

This Saturday night’s Syfy original movie Morlocks puts a new spin on the subterranean subhumanoids from the dark future of H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine. Even after watching these snippets I’m still not sure what exactly they are, but they sure don’t look like the albino apemen we’re accustomed to.
“Stargate: Atlantis” co-star David Hewlett, last seen as the douchebag neighbor in Rise of the Planet of the Apes has to contend with an uprising of future mutants after an experimental time machine opens a window in the future allowing the mutated Morlocks into our world to wreak havoc.
Christina Cole (“Chaos”), and Robert Picardo (47% of all Syfy original movies) also star in this UFO Films production directed by Matt Codd (Super Eruption).
Morlocks premieres this Saturday night on Syfy at 9/8 Central.

This weekend you’ll get to see David Hewlett on the big screen contending with a mutant ape uprising. This September on the small screen you’ll get to see him contend with a different mutant uprising when Morlocks get loose in our time.
You’re probably familiar with the Morlocks from H.G. Wells’ classic The Time Machine: a species of ape-like troglodytes that live underground in the futuristic world visited by Wells’ time traveler. The new Syfy original movie Morlocks dares to ask what if the light-sensitive cannibals traveled back in time to terrorize us.
An experimental time machine opens a window into the future, and mutated monsters (the Morlocks) use it to come back to the present and go on a murderous rampage.

Though many viewers ridicule Syfy's Saturday-night slate of made-for-tv movies, they do have their following. If they didn't, then the network wouldn't keep greenlighting new movies for production. The good news is that its getting some more star power for these fantastical journeys.
This time around, the crown falls on former 'Desperate Housewives' star Richard Burgi. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Burgi has been tapped to star in the new Syfy movie 'Super Eruption.' Burgi will play a firefighter who works with a volcanologist ('Primeval's' Juliet Aubrey) to save lives after a super volcano erupts in Yellowstone Park. And, before you scoff at the premise, Yellowstone does have one of the largest super volcanos in the world.
'Super Eruption' will be directed by Matt Codd, who has worked on other made-for-tv, science fiction movies like 'Epoch,' 'Shark Hunter,...

G.I. Joe director Stephen Sommers has posted this interesting bit of concept art over on his website. It shows illustrator Matt Codd’s take on the classic Destro mask, and Sommers says he gave him old Joe comics and action figures to work off of. The finished product is supposed to look a lot like this, which would imply that this alleged screenshot of the mask might not be as legit as we thought. The mask looks very imposing to be sure, though I’m hoping the real prop...

G.I. Rise of the Cobra opens in theaters this Friday and has surprised many people (including me) by gathering plenty of early positive reviews. Right now it holds an impressive 88% on RottenTomatoes with only eight professional reviews submitted (because Paramount refuses screenings).
To help hype the late summer blockbuster, a concept art image was posted today on the official website of Stephen Sommers, the movie’s director. The picture (posted below) shows the mask of Destro, a key villain and member of the Cobra organization played by Christopher Eccleston.
Here’s the blurb from the site: James McCullen has been called many things – arms dealer, heartless mercenary, war profiteer – yet none of those chilling titles sums him up as simply or as brutally as the name by which he’s referred to only in whispers: Destro. Here, exclusive to the site, is a first look at the concept art...
