Matthew McConaughey collaborated alongside Woody Harrelson in the HBO critically praised show True Detective. The pair would portray two police officers with an antagonistic relationship in the series. But McConaughey asserted there were times Harrelson truly was put off by his co-star’s performance.

Harrelson and McConaughey grew as much of a bond as their characters did in the first season of True Detective. Viewers remember McConaughey playing Rust Cohle, a pessimistic detective with a habit of going on long soliloquies. Meanwhile, Harrelson would play McConaughey’s partner Martin Hart.
There were many instances during True Detective where Harrelson’s character would be visibly annoyed by McConaughey’s speeches. But not all of it was an act. Speaking with Smartless, Harrelson shared that McConaughey had a habit of staying in character on set.

Dolly Parton once collaborated with fellow pop singer Miley Cyrus on her hit Disney show Hannah Montana. Although Parton appeared in many of the show’s episodes, she was missing from the actual Hannah Montana movie — a move that surprised the Grammy winner.

Spoiler Alert: This contains spoilers from “The Changeling”, now streaming on AppleTV+
“The Changeling’s” latest episode steps back in time to New York — in 1982, to be precise.
For production designer Lester Cohen, he needed to find a place where he could build his red-light area and seedy hotel.
The episode begins with Lillian (Adina Porter) walking through the red-light district in New York where peep shows cost 25 cents. She is still trying to get hold of Apollo (Lakeith Stanfield), leaving him messages. It has been three weeks since he went missing. She enters the Elk Hotel, a seedy joint. Narrator Victor Lavalle, who also penned the book of the same name, describes it as “the shittiest hotel in the world.”
As it turns out, the hotel is 100 years old. The lobby decor is just as seedy — red and rancid. An old TV with the news is on when she...

While Ringo Starr let his bandmates control much of The Beatles’ creative direction, he was a force to be reckoned with on the drums. He was an excellent timekeeper and was a grounding force in the band. He was also a powerful drummer. According to audio engineer Geoff Emerick, Starr was a small man. Still, he hit the drums with such force that he left debris in the studio.
Ringo Starr hit the drums with great force
Starr has never been a flashy drummer, but he has a unique style. Emerick credits this to his stature.
“[His fills aren’t] fast — in fact, he himself has likened them to the sound of someone falling down the stairs — and they’re often a little laid back, a little behind the beat,” Emerick wrote in his book Here, There and Everywhere: My Life Recording the Music of the Beatles. In 1979, Fleetwood Mac released Tusk, and, in the album’s aftermath, Christine McVie said Mick Fleetwood sank to the lowest point of his life. The band’s drummer had served as the glue holding them together for years. By the early 1980s, though, his personal life was as plagued with problems as the band’s dynamic had been in the Rumours era. McVie explained that his problems appeared to shrink him.
Christine McVie said Mick Fleetwood struggled in the time after ‘Tusk’
Fleetwood’s problems began after the Tusk tour. He had been serving as the band’s manager, but exorbitant spending on the tour left the group with significantly less money than they expected. As a result, his bandmates fired him from the position.
From there, Fleetwood made a series of questionable financial decisions. He bought a home in Los Angeles and a 1000-acre farm in Australia. Eventually, he declared bankruptcy.

A click track helps musicians stay in sync, but Ringo Starr has never felt he needed to use it. The Beatles’ drummer has worked with a number of musicians over the years, and many have noted his impeccable timekeeping. He said that part of this talent comes from his belief that no musician is perfect. This knowledge allows him to better keep time with the other musicians in a band.

John Bonham’s drumming was essential to Led Zeppelin. He used his bag of tricks to give powerfully stellar performances, but Bonzo also displayed his talent for playing various styles of beats and showing restraint when necessary. Still, the band didn’t employ their drummer on some songs. These are the six Led Zeppelin songs without Bonham’s drums (in chronological order).
John Bonham | Lester Cohen/Getty Images The 1 Led Zeppelin song that might not include John Bonham’s drumming, but we’re not sure
Before diving into the Zep songs we know don’t have Bonham’s playing, we need to discuss one we’re unsure about.
“That’s the Way,” a delicate gem from the back half of Led Zeppelin III, is nearly all acoustic guitar and vocals with steel guitar flourishes. Yet the tambourine that enters the mix toward the end (it’s distinct starting at the 4:44 mark) could be Bonham.

Prince was an incredibly influential artist, something that Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant readily recognized. George Harrison earned a few nicknames with The Beatles. The quiet one, the shy one, the third Beatle, and the most easy-going Beatle. Whatever name people called him, at least one thing was true — he was a talented songwriter who was overshadowed by his older songwriting bandmates. That didn’t prevent George from being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 14, 2009, a second prestigious posthumous honor for one of Liverpool’s most famous sons.

Yet Ringo got stood up by Bob Dylan as the ex-Beatle worked on a solo album in 1987. Similar to the time Paul McCartney threatened him and made Ringo emotional, Dylan wasn’t very kind to one of his friends.

The story of The Beatles conquering the United States is practically rock history 101 at this point. After winning over English fans with their earliest singles, the Fab Four won over millions of U.S. fans with their Feb. 9, 1964, appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
The band met Dylan when they toured the U.S. more extensively later that year.

George Harrison had several great moments with The Beatles. He played guitar skillfully, wrote some of the Fab Four’s prettiest tunes, and saved the Get Back sessions when they were about to derail completely. We’ll give George credit there, but he was 100 wrong about Led Zeppelin and their ability to write ballads.

The Beatles were all but finished when Led Zeppelin burst onto the music scene. Their careers briefly overlapped, but Zep took the torch as the world’s most popular band when the Fab Four split in 1970.
At some point, George crossed paths with Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham and lodged a complaint. The former Beatle called out the newer band for not writing any ballads.

Though The Office initially had a rough start finding an audience, the show definitely found its footing in season 2. Over time, the show became extremely popular, and the cast and crew were praised for creating such a colorful comedy. Today, nearly a decade after the series finale, the show is still capturing hearts and finding new audiences. Thanks to streaming services, the mockumentary workplace comedy is more popular than ever. In fact, many people regard the show as one of the best sitcoms of all time. Thus, most people are surprised when they learn that the show doesn’t actually have that many Emmys.

Jay-Z rose to fame in the late 1990s in the wake of iconic New York rappers such as Nas and The Notorious B.I.G. At the turn of the millennium, Jay-Z released the single “Big Pimpin'” with Pimp C and Bun B of Ugk. And though the two hip-hop icons eventually jumped on the track with Jay, Pimp C needed some convincing after deducing that one of Jay-Z’s lyrics in the song was about masturbation.

Texas natives Pimp C and Bun B formed the Underground Kingz — a.k.a. Ugk — in the late 1980s. They released albums throughout the 1990s and 2000s and were instrumental in showing that Southern rappers were not to be taken lightly.

Christine McVie was very close to her Fleetwood Mac bandmate, Lindsey Buckingham, and she even wrote a hit song about the guitarist. Here’s which surprising track McVie wrote for her friend and what she said about it.

Keyboardist Christine McVie wrote the Fleetwood Mac song “Over My Head,” which Reprise Records selected as the lead single from the band’s 1975 self-titled album. The song reached No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976, and it helped the Fleetwood Mac record sell 8 million copies.
The track tells the story of a mercurial man whose moods change like the weather. Although McVie was married to her Fleetwood Mac bandmate, John McVie, she gave no indication that “Over My Head” was about the bassist.

Smile is a true rags-to-riches story of indie filmmaking. Parker Finn‘s short, Laura Hasn’t Slept, premiered at SXSW, where it won the Special Jury Award and caught the attention of Paramount. They developed it as a feature with the intention of going straight to streaming, but test screening reactions were so strong that they pivoted to a theatrical release. It went on to become the highest grossing horror film of the year with over 200 million worldwide.
The movie’s home video release includes an audio commentary by Finn (complete with commentary subtitles!), among other extras. The first-time filmmaker discusses his intentions behind several creative choices, from storytelling to camera movement.
Here are six things I learned from the Smile commentary….
1. Caitlin Stasey reprises her role from the short

Parker Finn’s disquieting debut Smile transforms a congenial gesture into a threat. Smiles — warm and inviting by nature — mask deeper, more troubling intentions in this harrowing film about a demonic spirit that latches on to its victims’ traumas. The adage about grinning through hard times here takes on a sinister tone.
Dr. Rose Cutter (Sosie Bacon), an affable clinical psychiatrist, doesn’t know any of this when she meets Laura Weaver (Caitlin Stasey), a graduate student who recently witnessed a gruesome suicide. The two convene in an examination room of the oddly homey ER psychiatric wing. (The hallway walls are painted a bubble-gum pink; the exam room has blue and yellow accents.) When they sit down to speak, Laura hurriedly recounts how her professor bludgeoned himself to death in front of her, the haunting smiles she sees on the faces of strangers and loved ones,...

The phrase “smile through the pain” takes on a menacing new meaning in “Smile,” as Parker Finn uses an internationally recognized symbol of happiness to elicit fear and evil as part of the film’s exploration of trauma. A smile is nothing more than a mask, and the real horror arises from the true intention behind it.
Sosie Bacon stars as Rose Cotter, a doctor who works in an emergency psychiatric unit and has carried a heavy burden since she witnessed her mother’s suicide at ten years old. Her mental health begins to deteriorate after she assesses a young woman named Laura (Caitlin Stasey) who is brought in for witnessing a suicide. Frantic and begging for someone to believe her, Laura tells Rose that she is being taunted by a being that only she can see; one that smiles and changes its appearance all while delivering a death threat.

Army would typically look forward to Tuesday every week because it's typically when new episodes of the group's hit variety show, "Run BTS," would premiere. The series, which first aired in 2015, involves the septet competing against each other to win special prizes, so fans would love seeing who would come out on top each episode. Sadly, as of October 2021, the show has been on an indefinite hiatus. At the time, BTS's label, Big Hit Music, announced on Weverse that the series would be taking a break but didn't say for how long. Since it's been half a year since new episodes of the show have been released, you might be wondering, when does "Run BTS" come back? Let's try to find out.

HBO’s The Undoing may have been a limited series, but it doesn’t mean star Hugh Grant hasn’t been thinking about his character Jonathan Fraser and what he would be up to now.

“I do wonder what he’s doing? Grant continued. “He’s always determined to stay on top of everything. He’s been a wunderkind all his life, a high achiever. He wants all eyes on him. I imagine he’s quite high up in the prison hierarchy. Is he organizing an escape? Could that be the beginning of a second series? I don’t know because from Jonathan’s point of view,...

Filming the New York-set HBO thriller series “The Undoing” presented the challenge of getting inside the head of Nicole Kidman’s character, Grace, as her world flies apart and she doesn’t know what to believe, says Oscar-winning cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle.
The British Dp, known for an artistic approach and a fascination for macro-level detail, used some of the same techniques he’s developed over the years, whether filming “Slumdog Millionaire” for Danny Boyle or “Antichrist” for Lars von Trier, he says.

With a resume that includes “The Night Of,” “White Collar” and “Sneaky Pete,” production designer Lester Cohen expanded his number of hit projects this year by taking on “The Looming Tower,” a Hulu miniseries that centers on the rising threat of Al Qaeda in the 1990s and the response of the FBI and CIA. Cohen spent 10 months working on the show’s sets, traveling all over the world for its filming and doing some “daunting” research on the Middle East.
What was your process for “The Looming Tower”?
We had all of the scripts right at the beginning, [which] necessitates absorbing a lot of information and getting it all straight in my head. The first month was just research, research, research — just trying to figure it all out.
How much did Lawrence Wright’s book, which the show is based on, influence your vision?
My one regret is we never had...

Strangely dropping a press release on a historic day where the nation's attention is elsewhere, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed their annual list of new member invitees this morning. For those who criticize the makeup of the Academy there was some good news and the stark realization the organization still has a long way to go. The Academy has spent the last eight to 10 years attempting to diversify its membership and this year's class mostly reflects that. There are significantly more invitees of Asian and African-American descent, but the male to female disparity is still depressing. Out of the 25 potential new members of the Actor's Branch only seven are women. And, no, there isn't really an acceptable way for the Academy to spin that sad fact. Additionally, It's important to realize the 322 people noted in the release have only been invited to join Hollywood's most exclusive club.
