Lorna Elizabeth Tuck Colbert, the mother of "The Colbert Report" host Stephen Colbert, has died at the age of 92. Her death came on Wednesday (June 12), according to an obituary in "The Post and Courier" of Charleston, South Carolina.
Although he never explained the details to his audience, Stephen Colbert had hinted at his mother being ill back in February. The faux-political pundit missed two shows unexpectedly and then gave a shout-out to his mom upon his return to "The Colbert Report."
Colbert had been apologizing for how his absence had ended all political debate in America when he added a sweet message about his mother: "Oh, one more thing. Evidently, having 11 children makes you tough as nails. Confidential to a lovely lady."
