Megan Ellison’s fledgling division teams up with creator Chris McCoy and Sausage Party co-director Conrad Vernon on adult CG-animated series.
Annapurna TV is developing Amberville based on Tim Davys’ ‘Mollisan Town’ book series for Amazon Studios’ Prime Video platform.
Amberville is set in a city populated by living stuffed animals. The dark comedy centres on a reformed Teddy Bear who is pulled back into the criminal underworld when his former boss enlists him for an impossible new job.
McCoy wrote the pilot based on a story he co-wrote with Vernon, whose directing credits include Shrek 2 and Madagascar 3 and is attached to direct the pilot.
The project reunites Vernon with Annapurna who produced his film Sausage Party, which Sony Pictures released last year. McCoy wrote and directed last year’s Good Kids and has authored two novels.

Annapurna International said on Thursday it had sold out all territories outside the Us on the Four By Two Films comedy remake to star Sacha Baron Cohen.
eOne has acquired the UK, Australia, Canada and Benelux, while Sun will distribute in Latin America, Constantin in Germany, and Metropolitan in France.
Eagle has acquired Klown for Italy, ProRom for Eastern Europe, Nordisk for Scandinavia, and Tri Pictures for Spain, among other territory deals.
Screen broke the story during the market that Annapurna International introduced the new project and hosted British comic Baron Cohen at a buyers’ presentation. The company claimed that so far Klown is the only new title introduced at the recent Afm to completely sell out.
It is understood the English-language remake will be a semi-improvisational take on Mikkel Norgaard’s record-breaking 2010 Danish comedy about a man desperate to prove his worth to his girlfriend.
Norgaard followed that up with Klown Forever in 2015, in which the characters...

Mike Mills, who shot to fame with festival hits Beginners and Thumbsucker, will direct the nostalgic trip back to the 1970’s.
Annapurna’s Megan Ellison will produce alongside Anne Carey of Archer Gray and Youree Henley.
Production has been earmarked for later this year in Southern California on the story of a boy growing up in Santa Barbara whose worldview is shaped by the women in his life.
20th Century Women takes place at a tumultuous time during the final stretch of President Carter’s tenure as punk was entering the scene and the oil crisis rocked the global economy.
“The film is an ode to the women who raised me; my mom, my sisters, the girls I was in love with or looked up to at school and in the punk rock scene where I really learned about the world,” said Mills.

Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Pictures have come aboard to produce 20th Century Women, the next film from writer-director Mike Mills (Beginners, Thumbsucker). The period drama is about three very different women teaching a boy what men are, what women are, about love and freedom and finding your own form of sanity in 1979 Santa Barbara. When the boy’s mother takes in a male boarder, his worldview is further shaken by the man’s desire to understand and be loved by these seemingly unknowable women.
Archer Gray’s Anne Carey also will produce, as will Youree Henley.
