Pioneer of functionalist architecture with the use of reinforced concrete and the concept of a house as a "machine for living."
Is one of the most influential architects of the 20th century.
Took his eventual name Le Corbusier in 1920. He came from a family of watch engravers in Switzerland, and his mother was a musician.
A picture of him and part of his work can be seen on the current 10 Swiss franc banknote (introduced 1997/98)
