Tommy Wiseau has a lot to answer for. While he did not create the “bad movie” with 2003’s The Room, his misguided attempt to deliver “the passion of Tennessee Williams” resulted in a cult film which has regular theatre showings across the world. Many films followed to try and create a similar success story, but such a thing cannot be manufactured, and that is sadly evident in this work by co-directors Austin Frosch and Paul Dale.
After her grandma dies, Abby (Manon Pages) inherits a mysterious kite which she gives to her brother. After his mysterious death, the kite disappears and the body count rises, leaving Abby to search for the truth amidst a strange supernatural plot. The work of Paul Dale is never likely to be considered great art, but nevertheless, there is an art to it. Killer Kites is, in its own way, an exercise in the tradition of Lars Von Trier’s Dogville or Yasujiro Ozo’s Tokyo Story. It’s stripped right down to a basic formula, with minimalist sets and props. Dale and Frosch know how to structure and frame a horror film so well that practically any monster could be slotted into it – this would be easy to recut into a fresh feature with a different creature and some minor dubbing. Whilst one might interpret that as a bad thing, it’s remarkably entertaining to watch.
Dale’s last effort was the similarly pleasing Sewer Gators, which is hard to overlook, as he takes every opportunity for product placement here and the two films share some of their...

"That's one big, damn lizard." Watch out for killer crocs! An official trailer is available for a B-movie horror thriller titled Sewer Gators, from filmmaker Paul Dale, arriving on VOD for streaming this summer (or on DVD / VHS). When killer alligators unleash chaos on a from the sewers of a small Louisiana town, it's up to a local sheriff, an alligator expert, and an old gator hunter to kill the beasts. Described as "a limb-crunching, scaly new creature feature in the tradition of the classics Alligator and Lake Placid!" Sewer Gators stars Manon Pages, Sean Phelan, Paul Dale, Charles Early, Kenny Bellau, & Sophia Brazda. This looks absolutely awful, but that is the point! Fake gators, fake kills, and everything else fake in one trashy movie. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Paul Dale's Sewer Gators, direct from YouTube: When a small Louisiana town is plagued with alligator attacks stemming from peoples toilets,...
