Southampton’s home form is likely to be the key to their survival this year, and it is currently looking shaky at best, with an unlucky last-minute loss against Manchester United followed by a capitulation against Wigan, before the bounce back to hammer Aston Villa. This week sees the turn of Martin Jol’s Fulham to visit St.Mary’s, and it is worth noting that the Londoners have not won a league match at Southampton for 77 years.
Fulham have enjoyed a positive start to the season, with two defeats against the Manchester clubs and another against West Ham, and beating Norwich, West Brom and Wigan. This suggests that their form is much like that of last season where their form seemed subject to peaks and troughs. Jol will want them to respond after their home defeat against Manchester City last week, but...

Australia’s media agency bosses have warned Fairfax it will face a tough negotiation over ratecard when it resizes its flagship mastheads The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.
One of the reasons Fairfax has taken so long to move to the compact, tabloid-sized format is because of commercial concerns. The experience in other markets including the UK where broadsheets have converted to compact was that although print costs were reduced and there were slight sales uplifts, advertisers felt they were getting less for their money – particularly when it came to full page ads.
Simon Davies, head of publishing at media agency Omd, told Mumbrella: “Obviously it is a different format so you would expect pricing to change off the back of that. We have seen this in the UK where you have had a number of broadsheets change to a compact format so we will be tapping into those experiences over there.

Digital editions of Australian newspapers and magazines will now be included in data published by the Audit Bureau of Circulations, the industry has voted.
It means that iPad app sales, replica digital editions and paid website readers will be officially recorded in ABC numbers for the first time.
Sales since the beginning of this year will be included in the next set of numbers, covering January to March and due to be released in May.
The ABC is claiming a world first with an average Total Paid Masthead Sales metric, which will also include insights into print only sales, digital only sales and packaged print and digital subscription sales. Traffic on websites that are not behind paywalls will not be included in the new data.
ABC chief executive Paul Dovas told Mumbrella that the new rules are the biggest change since the ABC was created nearly 80 years ago.

The first London derby of 2012 sees Fulham entertain Arsenal at Craven Cottage and Martin Jol will be wary of his side’s new found liking for conceding late goals. Amazingly, almost half of their last 20 matches (9 in fact) have seen them let in a goal in the 88th minute or beyond. An incredible stat and one that has cost them a dangerous amount of points in the league and a place in the Europa League competition.
Arsenal on the other hand are a side stream-rolling on form. Another win just two days ago has helped them rise from 15th to a Champions League place of fourth and they have battered some of the sides they have played. Robin Van Persie is showing to be one of the greatest players in the world with his prolific run of form and with an Arsenal hero in Thierry Henry likely to be in...

Swansea will be looking to return to winning ways in their home clash against Fulham this afternoon. The Welsh team were humbled by Yakubu and the rest of his Blackburn team-mates last week after suffering a 4-2 defeat at Ewood Park, however Fulham come off the back of a much more fortuitous result, securing a 1-0 victory over Liverpool.
Striker Danny Graham’s return should boost the Swans despite Leroy Lita’s best efforts leading the line, including a well taken headed goal in the previous fixture, Brendan Rodgers will probably look to his record signing to start the game.
Whether it is Graham or Lita starting, scoring has become a problem as of late for Swansea. The two goals scored last week will no doubt be encouraging but they are among the lowest scorers in the division and have suffered similar plights in the past, but the challenge of...

Earlier this week researchers Alasdair Allan and Pete Warden discovered that iPhones and iPads automatically record the locations of their owners—information that is then stored in an unencrypted file on the device and any other machines with which it is synched. Panic! “The existence of that data creates a real threat to privacy,” Simon Davies, a gentleman with the human-rights organization Privacy International, told The Guardian. Wait—don’t panic. “There’s no immediate harm that would seem to come from the availability of this data,” wrote Allan and Warden. “Nor is there evidence to suggest this data is leaving your custody. But why this data is stored and how Apple intends to use it—or not—are important questions that need to be explored.” Actually—panic, but in moderation. Curious? You can stalk yourself with this helpful self-stalking app. (Ooh, you’ll wonder suspiciously, what were you doing there,...

Kate Middleton was commended for how she helped put young cancer sufferers at ease during her first official event as a royal fiancée on Saturday. Middleton, 28, cut a stylish figure in an Alice Temperley dress on her way past photographers, and earned high marks from seven young patients she and Prince William met during the interval of the charity Christmas fundraising concert in Norfolk, England. "They took a genuine interest in what I'd been through and the operation I had," Rosie Van Raalte, 16, from Little Melton, Norfolk, says in a statement. "The conversation flowed really well, and they made me feel relaxed,...

There's a story going around today that a "white hat" (the good kind, sort of) hacker pulled data from 100 million Facebook profiles and posted them online. The hacker, a "security consultant" by the name of Ron Bowles, collected user IDs, names, URLs, and all kinds of other data from those profiles, and made it all available as one massive torrent file. Sounds bad, right? It isn't.
The BBC, among others, is painting this as a terrifying hack of Facebook. But the thing is, all of the data that was snatched up by Bowles was publicly available. When you create a Facebook profile, you're given tons of options as to what is available to the public at large--everything, nothing, or something in between. Many users choose the "nothing" option--and their data was not grabbed by Bowles. But data that was made or left public can be found by anyone. That's what public means.
