Warning: contains major spoilers for Ozark season 3.
Wendy Byrde may sound like the name of a cutesy cartoon character, but don’t let that fool you. Inside Laura Linney’s Ozark character beats the heart of an ambitious schemer with a taste for chaos. In seasons one and two, Marty’s wife Wendy was a reluctant passenger on the Byrde family journey into money laundering for a Mexican drug cartel, but in season three, she took the wheel.
It was always in her. The arrival of Wendy’s troubled younger brother Ben (Tom Pelphrey) in season three opened a window into her past. Wendy Davis had been a tough, wayward teen from a poor background who got her kicks breaking into empty houses and messing with rich people’s things. On a return trip to Chicago in the season three opener, she broke into the Byrdes’ former home and pulled her old tricks.

Multiple videos posted to social media on Saturday morning apparently show Trump supporters in trucks and cars harassing a Joe Biden and Kamala Harris campaign bus in Texas, causing the campaign to cancel a planned event in Central Texas.
A Biden campaign spokesperson told Forbes that the Trump supporters “attempted to slow the bus down and run it off the road.” And one local Democratic Party leader, Katie Naranjo, tweeted photos and said Trump supporters “followed the Biden bus throughout central Texas” and “ran into a person’s car, yelling curse words and threats.

Ozark Season 3 is coming to Netflix! 10 new episodes of the show will soon arrive on the streaming service.
As star Jason Bateman, who directed the first two episodes of the upcoming frame, put it upon the third season renewal announcement, “I’m happy for me, but concerned for Marty.” – Us, too, Jason.
Indeed, as long as there’s an audience for the crime drama series, it will continue on for a fair while yet. The team behind Ozark have a five-year plan set out, but they seem open to extending the story beyond that.
“We’ve always talked about it as five seasons. It could be four, it could be seven … but that always seemed like a good number to us,” said showrunner Chris Mundy at the April 2019 Milken Global Conference in Beverly Hills.

Romantic comedies are surprisingly rare on television. Recently, if a show could at all be described as romantic and/or a comedy, there’s usually been a biting twist as if the show wanted to distance itself from any trace of saccharine storytelling. Shows like FX’s “You’re The Worst,” HBO’s “Insecure,” and Netflix’s recently concluded “Love” hinge on romance, but funnel it all through a purposefully cynical, acidic point of view.
“Love Is…” is not that kind of TV rom-com. Based on the real life relationship of creator Mara Brock Akil (“Being Mary Jane”) and executive producer Salim Akil (“Black Lightning”), “Love Is” embraces a far more traditionally swoony kind of romance, even down to the “When Harry Met Sally” style framing device of 2027 Nuri (Wendy Davis) and Yasir (Clarke Peters) telling the story of their 30 year romance straight to camera.

In 2011, the Texas Legislature voted to remove $5.4 billion from the state's education budget. Vanessa Roth's intelligent and informative documentary, The Texas Promise, examines some of the reasons behind this decision as well as various effects it had on Texas public schools.
The film opens with a series of hopeful young students talking about what they want to be when they grow up, but the narrative quickly moves into the nitty gritty of the matter at hand. Thanks to the people in charge at the governmental level, these students probably have a challenging path ahead of them for reasons that have more to do with money and politics than their own academic skills and goals.
Roth helps to explain the situation by relying on quite a bit of footage captured during the legislative debates leading up to the 2011 decision, and these moments help to provide a summary of the players...

Exclusive: HBO has put in development God Save Texas, a drama series project written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright (The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda And The Road To 9/11) and executive produced by X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner. It centers on an idealistic cowboy who, looking to save his ranch and marriage, tries to get elected to the Texas Legislature, where he becomes the target of the powerful energy lobby and learns how to survive in the crazy, brutal world of Texas politics. Wright, a native Texan and longtime observer of the political scene in Austin, is also a playwright. God Save Texas is based on his 2005 play Sonny’s Last Shot. Tony-winning veteran theater producer Margo Lion (Hairspray), who is working with Shuler Donner on adapting the Shuler Donner-produced feature The Secret Life Of Bees as a Broadway musical, gave her a copy of the play. State Senator Steve Gallardo of Arizona came out as gay after being inspired by the recent conflict over Sb 1062, the Arizona bill that would have allowed discrimination against the Lgbt community.
“I’m gay, I’m a Latino, and I’m a senator. And it’s okay,” Gallardo told reporters on Wednesday.
Gallardo has been out to his friends and family for over a decade, and says that he was encouraged to come out to the public after seeing all the support for the Lgbt community in the fight to get Sb 1062 vetoed. He himself has been incredibly vocal in his opposition to the bill.
“Seeing the people out there, protesting. I thought, it’s time. It’s time to let people know me. And to send people a message. I’m more interested in letting people who struggle with this know that it’s okay,” Gallardo said following his announcement.

Greg Abbott, a Texas gubernatorial hopeful, thought that having controversial conservative rocker Ted Nugent campaign on his behalf would boost his campaign, but the attention has turned into a headache for him.
Greg Abbott's Ted Nugent Problem
Abbott aligned himself with Nugent based on his fame for voicing his opinions on the second amendment gun rights. Abbott and his team, however, apparently forgot to fully vet the musician before putting him on the campaign stage. In the past, Nugent has caused significant controversy for his tweets about President Barack Obama and his apparent affinity for young girls, which Abbott is trying to sweep under the rug.
“Sen. Davis knows she is suffering with voters because of her flipping and flopping on 2nd Amendment gun laws, and she knows that Ted Nugent calls her out on her disregard for Second Amendment rights,” Abbott said, according to the Dallas Morning News.

When I think back on 2013, I think of all the times I heard or read about strong, brave women around the world. Wendy Davis, Malala Yousafzai, Gabrielle Giffords and Kaitlin Roig-DeBellis caught my attention, each and every one of their battles epic in their own regard. Several of these ladies fought to protect the rights of women, often getting hurt or knocked down along the way. They didn't take "no" for an answer, and in some cases put their lives on the line for what they believe in. This was a rough year for the girls, but even in spite of all of this, it still made me incredibly proud to be a woman.
I gravitated toward this topic because I feel that lately I have been stumbling upon movies with great female protagonists. Some you side with from the start, while some you feel might just be flat out crazy.

If I have learned anything about the way our nation functions, it is this: When you filibuster, it’s all about the footwear. Exhibit A: Wendy Davis, whose eleven-hour filibuster in Texas to block a bill that would place even more restrictions on abortion because life isn’t hard enough for the ladies, wore hot pink sneakers. Damn, those were some beautiful sneakers. Exhibit B: Leslie Knope, in a story line inspired by Davis’s badassery, filibusters while wearing roller skates. She’s dressed for Ben’s birthday party, “an early nineties-themed roller skating bash.” “I have a thing for women in skates,” Ben reports while wearing a Toad the Wet Sprocket T-shirt. “As far as things go, it’s pretty innocuous … I like a woman in skates. A lot.”You know what he doesn’t like a lot? Disenfranchised voters! (Okay, that’s a stretch. It’s a double-header night.
