Just as she hops into bed with Charles Aznavour in Shoot the Piano Player, Michèle Mercier exclaims, “Television is a cinema that you can see at home.” Et voilà—from Michèle’s lips to Studio City’s ear, Hollywood responded with a new kind of home entertainment, movies made exclusively for TV. The first examples of this awkward hybrid began to appear in the mid-sixties, but it wasn’t the first time the small-screen tried to expand its horizons; CBS beat movie studios to the punch with Playhouse 90‘s original productions of The Miracle Worker in 1957 and Judgment at Nuremberg in 1959. Tarzan Goes to India/Tarzan’s Three Challenges

Starring Jock Mahoney, Simi Garewal, Woody Strode
Cinematography by Paul Beeson, Edward Scaife
Directed by John Guillermin, Robert Day
Jane Goodall fell for Tarzan at an early age – ‘he married the wrong Jane’ she said, half joking. A confirmed tree-hugger, the King of the Apes would seem to be a perfect match for the nature loving primatologist – even though the greater part of Tarzan’s big screen career played out in backlot jungles rather than the real thing.
Producer Sy Weintraub rectified that situation with Tarzan Goes to India and Tarzan’s Three Challenges – both sleekly made widescreen entertainments that put the jungle lord in his proper element. Made on location in India and Thailand, the films are a non-stop parade of cliffhanging serial thrills that revel in the raw beauty...

My cable guide cut off the title of last night’s episode, leaving me only with “Older Sister,” and my heart stopped. Could it be? Would they dare? Does the Bringer of Darkness ride again? Is Abby Day back? Mercifully, the answer was no — or not yet, anyway. But given the events of last night’s episode, here are just a few story lines it seems like we can prepare for as season four unfolds:• There will be a long ramp up to the Big Wedding between Bob Day and Ashley “Trashley” Berkman, which will send a few characters (certainly Jess and Cece; possibly Nick and Schmidt; maybe Coach; probably not Winston) further into a tailspin about their own singledom, leading to ... • ... a mad dash as each roommate tries to secure a date to said wedding — might some of them end up going with each other? Will Nick go with...

Ahh, that beautiful tradition. So entertaining, so succulent, so magical. Yes, it’s that time of year again – New Girl‘s Thanksgiving episode! More represented in the show than any other holiday, every Thanksgiving episode has been a real treat. Who could forget “Parents,” last year’s Thanksgiving episode in which Joan and Bob Day (Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner, respectively) come and stay with the gang? It gave us that Nickest of Nick punchlines – “Jess! I think I’m into your mom!”, and his close relationship with Bob sowed the seeds for his and Jess’ future relationship, I think.
That lovely reversal of the usual father/boyfriend dynamic, of Bob disapproving of Nick because he feels that he and Nick are too much alike, gave the episode real festive heart. Same with the previous year’s “Thanksgiving,” when Paul (Justin Long) struggled to find a foothold with Nick...
