From its modest beginnings as a railroad link to Los Angeles, CA and Salt Lake City, Ut in 1905 to its mob-led urbanization in the 1930s as a gambling mecca (and later a family-friendly mega resort with the arrival of Howard Hughes in the 1960s), Las Vegas, Nevada has long served as a draw to those with an entrepreneurial spirit and a keen sense of showmanship. Enter “hauntreprenuer” Jason Egan, a man whose own spirit of enterprise would take him from his nascent origins as a home haunter to that of transforming Sin City into a worldwide destination for horror fans.
Having recently visited Egan, a creative multi-hyphenate and horror fan himself, B-d got a chance to discuss the evolution of his horror empire, as we traversed his top-notch and rather terrifying escape room experience Escape It “The Funhouse,” one of four mind blowing escape attractions which he currently operates.

Filmmaker and costume designer Sophie Black recounts her personal interpretation of Heathers, a film defined by vivid visual interpretation.
It is just a coincidence that the first time I saw Michael Lehmann’s Heathers (1988) was within hours of the first time I saw David Lynch’s Blue Velvet (1986), and I immediately made comparisons between the two films which I may have not noticed otherwise. More people are quick to compare Heathers to the work of Tim Burton, because of the associates he had on the film (producer Denise Di Novi and star Winona Ryder, to name but two) and the fact that the candy-coloured suburban setting mirrors that of Edward Scissorhands (1990). But the picket-fenced world of Blue Velvet equally does so, and preceded both films, and only Blue Velvet matches Heathers in its extremity at portraying unusual characters, and capricious changes in editing and tone.
One cannot also help but...

Whether there's a cause or not, rebels have always held a special place in movie history. Dating almost as far back as cinema itself, the great rebels of movies past are still to this day some of the most memorable characters ever created.
And speaking of rebels, we've announced that the one and only Rebel Wilson will be the star of the MTV Movie Awards on April 14, 2013! The Australian comedian has been taking the nation by storm as of late, with featured roles in hit movies such as "Bridesmaids," "Bachelorette," and most recently as Fat Amy in this year's "Pitch Perfect."
At the rate that she's going, there's no question that Rebel Wilson will soon be joining the ever-expanding list of cinema's greatest rebels — rebels like the ones below!
Jim Stark
Arguably the most widely recognized movie rebel, James Dean effortlessly embodies the infamous onscreen rebellious teenager.

Halloween is a month for the macabre, and you know what that means: I'm thinking about Winona Ryder's career. I still have the feathers in my mouth from her traumatizing Black Swan appearance. Shivers. Remember when Natalie Portman won an Oscar for playing a one-dimensional lunatic in what amounted to an overcooked, below-average Bjork video? I'm traumatized by that too.
But more importantly I'm thinking about Heathers, which I proclaim the definitive high school black comedy of all time -- so take that, uh, John Tucker Must Die! In retrospect, the unabashed kookiness of Ryder, Christian Slater, and the titular croquet-loving trio was sort of a slap in the face to the humdrum, half-snarling teens of John Hughes films. With Heathers came a refreshing burst of real cynicism. Smugness. Droopy anarchy. And not the kind that involves punching the air because you locked lips with Molly Ringwald in Saturday detention.

Gibbs (Mark Harmon) knows Paloma Reynosa (Jacqueline Obradors) and the quote she uses from Tennesse Williams: about 'all being sentenced to solitary confinement inside our skins for life.' She asks if he is a 'frank' man. Referring to "paragons of frankness." Lots of references to frank here, i.e. Mike Franks (Muse Watson) . Gibbs doesn't drink Scotch. Meanwhile, Tony (Michael Weatherly) is upset Ziva (Cote de Pablo) is becoming a citizen, it can't be happening, "how could they let you in...never been more disappointed in my government." Ziva passed her exams. Gibbs isn't at work and she comments it's not "the first time he's run off on his own." Referring to his 'retirement' at the end of season 3 and early season 4. Vance (Rocky Carroll) says they need to concentrate on what they're good at. Tony just loves stirring doesn't he, asking "What would that be?" Vance replies, "If you don't know,...

The Cinematical Movie Club is a new weekly feature where we pick a film, watch it and then discuss it. Feel free to read our introduction for more info.
Heathers is near and dear to my heart. It marked the first step towards my adult preferences, as I broke out of the kiddie fare and slowly journeyed into the world of more discerning taste. (My pre-teen self thought Grease 2 was a superior film to the original in all ways, people!) I rented the VHS because of my Christian Slater fandom born out of The Legend of Billie Jean and Gleaming the Cube. The Metropolitan trailer tugged me into the world of Whit Stillman and conversational features while the film itself allowed me to discover my deep love of black comedy and well-written banter.
To be fair, the first time I watched it, my friend and I were professing our love for Jason Dean,...

Forget about a Heathers remake. That's not in the works, but a television show is. Variety reports that Fox is developing the classic cult film into a new TV series. Mark Rizzo is adapting the story with the help of Sex and the City's Jenny Bicks.
As well all know (or should!) Heathers focuses on Veronica Sawyer, a smart girl who gave up normal life for popularity with a group of Heathers. When the sexy, Jack Nicholson-esque Jason Dean enrolls in the school, she falls for his charm, and briefly, his rather harsh way of dealing with the unjust aspects of high school politics. In other words, a series of murders covered up as suicides.
While I've been known to be quite ... apprehensive ... of plans to re-enter the world, whether it be with a sequel or an on-stage musical, the idea itself is neat. Veronica's frantic diary entries...

Greetings and salutations! I bring the following news to you with an air of excitement, and a huge warning of caution:
Christian Slater, otherwise known as the sexy, seductive, and utterly unstable Jason Dean, is eager to go back to the Heathers fold. While talking up his new NBC show My Own Worst Enemy with AOL TV, Slater spoke about returning to Sherwood, Ohio and said:
"Yeah, sometimes I see Winona and she's like, 'Are you ready to do Heathers 2?' And I'm like, 'Sure!' I would do it in a heartbeat. I would totally love to do that character again -- J.D. We'd have to have a scene in there where's he's watching The Shining or something, you know? We'd have to see that he's collected all of Nicholson's movies. Just to really make sense of it all. [Laughs] That would be like a dream come true for me.
