*Sigh* — Not a day goes by that I don’t miss my escaped brontosaurus. This wonder movie of the silent era, which pits five intrepid explorers against Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s fantastic South American plateau where marvelous animals from the dawn of time still live. Blackhawk Films and Lobster’s latest digital restoration includes footage never before seen, in original tints; it’s dedicated to film restorer David Shepard.

The Green Bay Packers may be the sacrificial lambs that will bring back the NFL's regular referees. In the final play of their game with the Seattle Seahwawks Monday, the Packers' M.D. Jennings appeared to clearly intercept a hail-Mary pass in the end zone, even as the Seahawks' Golden Tate fought him for control of it. Blu-ray review site DoBlu.com [1] has an interview with Kino's producer Bret Wood on their upcoming release of the Buster Keaton film Steamboat Bill Jr. In it, Wood discusses the source of the prints used to produce the disc, including an alternate version called the Killiam cut: "We began the project with only the Killiam 35mm element, which we obtained from Worldview Entertainment, the company that owned the Paul Killiam film collection. Coming hot off of the heels of Janus Films picking up the rights to the Charlie Chaplin catalog, it looks like Kino is set to bring to DVD and Blu-Ray one of Buster Keaton’s, Chaplin’s silent counterpart, most legendary films, Steamboat Bill, Jr. Several months back,
Kino leapt into the world of Blu-ray with the Buster Keaton film, The General.
Kino International released a press release this weekend announcing that the film is set to come to DVD and Blu-Ray, with some really excellent special features. Included in the release will be three different musical backing tracks in the form of two scores (one organ and one piano) as well as a complete score by the Biograph Players, as well as a documentary on the making of the film, a stills gallery, a musical montage of stunts and pratfalls, and two recordings of the folk song, Steamboat Bill.
