- Osamu Dezaki was born on November 18, 1943 in Tokyo, Japan. He was a director and writer, known for Hakugei: Legend of the Moby Dick (1997), Space Cobra (1982) and Space Adventure Cobra (1982). He died on April 17, 2011 in Mitaka, Tokyo, Japan.
- He developed and frequently used in his series "Postcard Memories," a technique where a closing scene fades into a simple watercolour painting.
- He employed cinematic techniques in animation like lighting effects, split-screens and freeze-frames to improve the impact of the story.
- Dezaki was the first to use the technique of repetition: a scene is repeated a few times in succession, to stretch out its significance and convey a sense of speed or impact.
- His "Postcard Memories" technique became immensely popular and is now considered an anime staple, seen in most if not all shows.
- He had an older brother, Satoshi Dezaki, who also works as a director in the anime industry.
- Dezaki was noted for strict and meticulous adherence to storyboards: he storyboarded about 90% of his work.
- He was a notorious chain-smoker, which eventually brought about his terminal lung cancer.
- About Golgo 13: Golgo will never die. If he dies, he'll come back to life.
- Girls are more imaginative than boys, so their sensibilities are fascinating. Girls aren't all these effeminate entities that are crying all the time, as we men might think. They have terrifying sides too. And they have strength too, and that's something I'd like to depict.
- It's easier to get more imaginative about the unknown.
- About working on animation: Do it if that's what you love. Don't be trying to get good reviews from others or believe that you could do better if only you got those. I don't think you can continue if you don't love to draw and enjoy animating.
- Video games are so fun. Yet, computer graphics alone do not make a movie.
