NBC’s most venerable primetime hit, entering its 20th season, isn’t out of ideas yet, says one of its stars. But that’s hardly cause for celebration.
“Unfortunately, there’s still storylines,” said “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star Ice-t at the Cinema Society event celebrating NBC’s fall season launch at New York City’s Four Seasons Restaurant on Thursday. “Unfortunately, the stuff we deal with is going on more than ever. We were pre-the #MeToo thing, we were talking about that 10 years ago. So, I mean, you can’t make this stuff up. Life has unfortunately given us unlimited amounts of material.”
“Svu” has for decades now generated its narrative energy from the investigation of assaults, but the rapper-turned-actor, who walked the red carpet with his wife Coco, noted mixed feelings about aspects of the #MeToo movement. “I have a kind of interesting feeling about it.

When Amy Poehler first thought about doing crafting competition show “Making It,” she knew there was only one person she wanted to do it with: her former “Parks and Recreation” co-star and renowned woodworker, Nick Offerman.
“It was so nice to just be on a set with him again and spend time with him,” Poehler tells Variety of reuniting on the new show. “Nick and I kind of share a similar giddiness for new things, and I’m not as bubbly as [‘Parks and Rec’ character] Leslie and he’s not as grouchy as Ron — we kind of meet in the middle — so it was just great to walk around and see interesting things being made and not have to memorize lines.”

NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment has rebranded Craftsy Unlimited, the digital service it bought a little more than a year ago, as Bluprint.
The new entity’s “expanded subscription service and premier digital destination for lifestyle learning” will cost $15 a month, accessible via apps including one on Roku. It will feature online classes in crafting as well as offering content in complementary lifestyle categories including music, writing, dance, yoga, fitness, home decor, entertaining, and kids and family.
In addition to some 3,000 hours of on-demand classes, Bluprint is also planning to produce original entertainment series spotlighting creative experts out to inspire, empower and entertain new crafts enthusiasts and experts alike. Today‘s Al Roker, Barney’s New York creative director Simon Doonan and Stephen Boss will be among the talent fronting those shows. NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment is rebranding its Craftsy learning video network as “Bluprint,” a subscription VOD service expanding beyond crafting how-tos to multiple lifestyle categories.
NBCU acquired a majority stake in Craftsy in May 2017. Now the Craftsy Unlimited service is becoming Bluprint, with an expanded content lineup of 3,000-plus hours of instructional videos, priced starting at $15 per month. (Craftsy.com will still exist for a la carte classes.)
Bluprint — in addition to how-to videos in areas including music, writing, dance, yoga, fitness, home décor, entertaining, and kids and family — will produce original entertainment series. Talent to be featured on the rebranded streaming service include: Padma Lakshmi (Bravo’s “Top Chef”), Al Roker (“Today” show), Simon Doonan (Barneys New York creative ambassador), Stephen “tWitch” Boss (dancer-choreographer who is a regular on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”), body-positive yogi Jessamyn Stanley, and Broadway actress Marcy Harriell.

Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman are baiting “Parks and Recreation” fans with their new reality competition series “Making It.” The show debuts this month on NBC and features eight contestants battling it out in a series of craft challenges. The judges include Poehler, Offerman, Etsy trendspotter Dayna Isom Johnson, and Barneys window-dresser Simon Doonan.
If seeing Poehler and Offerman together on screen not as Leslie Knope and Ron Swanson wasn’t hard enough for “Parks and Rec” fans, just wait until they see a new digital video for the series in which the comedians face off in an excruciatingly corny pun battle. Poehler and Offerman don’t even have to say anything to make it clear their comedic chemistry still sizzles. The looks Poehler gives Offerman as he makes the kind of puns Swanson would adore are laugh-out-loud funny.

Beyoncé for Mayor of Parks and Recreation‘s Pawnee? Probably not, but the show itself seems a couple votes closer to another term. On today’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Parks & Rec star/producer Amy Poehler tells DeGeneres that the cast of the 2009-2015 NBC comedy would jump at the chance for a Will & Grace-style resurrection.
“I’ll speak for everybody and say we would all do it,” Poehler says, sitting next to Nick Offerman, real-life husband of Will & Grace‘s Megan Mullally and Poehler’s co-star on both Parks & Rec and the new Making It competition show (they’re exec producers on that one). “I think we would all do it someday. It would be amazing.”

Is celebrity photographer Rose Hartman truly “incomparable,” as the title of this modest documentary breathlessly promises? Well, that seems to be a matter of individual taste. It is fair to say that her breezy biography (which she co-executive produced) falls a little short. But if you share Hartman’s trifecta of obsessions — photography, fashion and fame — you’ll find plenty to appreciate. First-time director Otis Mass has assembled an impressive collection of talking heads to support his thesis: that Hartman deserves a full-length film of her own. Simon Doonan, Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Patrick McMullan, and Phillip Bloch are among those.

Transgender activist Janet Mock has called out Piers Morgan Live for an interview segment that was edited to focus on the physical aspects of her transition and her relationships, sensationalizing Mock’s story with similarly sensational descriptions for Mock appearing on screen. For those concerned with Honey Boo Boo's stance on the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, rest assured: the reality TV sensation has declared her Lgbt support.
The precocious seven-year-old, whom Simon Doonan recently described as "today's Shirley Temple," made her pro-lgbt declaration on the season finale of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." After a visit from her beloved "Uncle Poodle" (i.e. Sugar Bear's openly gay brother Lee), Honey Boo Boo notes, "Ain't nothin' wrong with bein' a little gay."
The pageant star then concludes, "Everybody's a little gay."

Hey Simon Doonan, what do you know about the hotel industry?
Give an average bloke a room key and a mint on his pillow and suddenly that person turns into a rule-breaking, wild-eyed, Charlie Sheenian sexual outlaw. Stick an average broad in a hotel bar and she turns into Rielle Hunter. A friend of mine who works in the hotel industry keeps me abreast of all the latest trends in anti-social and revolting guest behavior. According to my “hospitality insider,” nefarious guest activities are only becoming more foul and disturbing. Though he enjoys his work, he has started to feel somewhat constrained, specifically in regard to fabric choices. Whether for upholstery, drapes, or bedding, every textile he selects must now be Bcp-resistant, by which he means resistant to—drumroll—blood, cum, and poo.

At last night's gala benefit for The Moth, a non-profit dedicated to the art of storytelling, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels shared a few memories of Adam "McA" Yauch with The Huffington Post.
In the early 80s, McDaniels' group, Run-d.M.C., and Yauch's group, the Beastie Boys, were label-mates on Def Jam Records -- and tag-team partners locked in combat with music's status quo. Today, both groups are safely ensconced in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but it wasn't always obvious that they were destined for immortality.
