It’s been a long time coming, but a remake of the 1994 film The Crow (which was based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr) will finally be making its way out into the world on August 23rd, which is when Lionsgate will be giving the film a theatrical release. With that release date swiftly approaching, we figured we should gather together all the information we have on this movie… and here it is, Everything We Know About The Crow Remake:
Development Hell
When the original The Crow was released, it was successful enough to spawn a franchise, with three sequels following over the next eleven years. We got The Crow: City of Angels in 1996, The Crow: Salvation in 2000, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005, with several other potential sequels (including one that would have been written and directed by Rob Zombie) being developed and scrapped along the way.

Pinewood Cardiff shoot for Relativity-backed remake put on ice.
Production on the remake of cult classic The Crow has been “suspended”, according to multiple sources close to the film.
Pre-production on the multi-million pound feature, which was due to be the first shot at Pinewood Cardiff, has halted, with crew having vacated the studio this week following months of preparation.
While the latest delay to the anticipated film correlates with the financial woes of the film’s Us backer Relativity Media, a source close to Relativity told ScreenDaily that the company still “intends to move forward with producing and releasing The Crow”.
Staff at Pinewood Cardiff are understood to be awaiting instruction as to the timetable for the troubled remake, which lost Jack Huston as its lead in June, and Luke Evans prior to that.
Replacement cast has yet to be announced on the action-fantasy, set to be directed by Corin Hardy (The Hallow), but crew working...

The new take on The Crow won't be a remake of the Brandon Lee-headlined movie. And Jack Huston is now confirmed for the lead role.
It finally - finally - looks as though the mooted reboot of The Crow is going to happen. After the part had been linked with the likes of Bradley Cooper, Luke Evans and Tom Hiddleston, it's Boardwalk Empire star Jack Huston who will be taking on the lead role in the movie.
The news was confirmed by the creator of The Crow, James O'Barr, who told Dread Central (and others) that he was "really happy with that choice", when talking about the casting. O'Barr also revealed that, rather than being a straight remake of the 1994 movie, this The Crow will be an adaptation of the original graphic novel. Cliff Dorfman has penned the screenplay.

The Crow remake over at Relativity sure has had its share of ups and downs, departures and attachments. Most recently Luke Evans dropped out of starring as the lead character, Eric Draven, a man that rises from the dead to avenge his and his fiancee's death. Now, previous rumors that Jack Huston ("Boardwalk Empire") would pick up where Evans left off appear to have come true. Reported by Dread Central, series creator James O'Barr told the site, "Jack Huston has definitely been cast. I'm really happy with that choice and the film will shoot in a couple of months." Meanwhile, we also learn Jessica Brown Findlay (A Winter's Tale, "Downton Abbey") will star as Draven's fiancee, Shelly Webster. I've never read O'Barr's graphic novel, which served as the inspiration for 1994's The Crow starring Brandon Lee, but he tells the site this new adaptation will stick much closer to the source material.

Much like Eric Draven himself, the remake of "The Crow" just won't die. The movie has been in limbo for years, with seemingly countless directors and stars attached, but with a director and script in place, it's time to find their leading man.
Deadline is reporting that Jack Huston, who played war vet Richard Harrow in "Boardwalk Empire," is in early talks with Relativity to star as the comic book protagonist. In James O'Barr's beloved graphic novel, Draven returns from the dead to get revenge on the guys who murdered him and his beloved fiancé Shelly on Devil's Night. The two were to be married the next day - on Halloween, natch. The role was made famous by Brandon Lee, who was accidentally killed during filming. Sequels to "The Crow" were dismal, but the original is a spooky '90s classic.

The planned reboot of The Crow, the dark tale of revenge based on James O’Barr’s graphic novel, was hit by yet another setback last month when Luke Evans dropped out of the lead role to focus on other projects. Production company Relativity has scrambled quickly to try to lock in a new choice and it looks like Jack Huston is the man the team wants to don the make-up and face the tragic tale. Exclusive: Relativity has acquired screen rights to Blood Aces: The Wild Ride Of Benny Binion and has set Cliff Dorfman to adapt the Doug Swanson book. Dorfman has a first look with Relativity. Binion’s résumé reads like this: cowboy, pioneering casino owner, gangster, killer and founder of the World Series of Poker. The book chronicles his role in shaping modern Las Vegas. From a Texas backwater, Binion rose to prominence on a combination of vision, determination and brutal expediency. His formula was simple: Run a good business, cultivate the big boys, kill your enemies, own the cops. While he controlled his competition through ruthless violence, his irresistible charm brought him the protection of the political elite. But one feud went too far, and a competitor he later would assassinate after 12 attempts ran him out of Dallas. Binion moved to Las Vegas, opening the Horseshoe Casino — where he legally operated despite continued gangster tactics,...

It seems like there has been a huge shake up with The Crow reboot production. Yesterday we learned that director F. Javier Gutiérrez was replaced with music video director Corin Hardy. Now it looks like Luke Evans is going to drop out of the project, which really sucks, because he would have been awesome in the movie.
Den of Geek recently had the opportunity to talk to Evans and they asked him for an update on what was going on with the movie. His response wasn't a positive one:
“It’s not [progressing], no. No, at the minute The Crow is not, not for me, I think it’s a little… I mean I’m sure it’s going to go ahead at some point, but I have other projects that are greenlit and ready to go and projects that I’m very interested in and you know, I can’t wait much longer!

A new director has been named for The Crow reboot. Corin Hardy is now set to direct the film based off the 1989 graphic novel by James O’Barr. F. Javier Gutiérrez dropped out of the project to focus on directing The Ring 3.
The Crow will be Hardy's second film. His first film, The Hallow, will debut next year. Hardy also gained acclaim for directing an animated short called Butterfly. Probably the biggest thing to note is that Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs the World) is the one who recommended Hardy for the Crow job. That’s one big stamp of approval.

It’s been flapping its way through development limbo for years now, burning through different directors and potential casting choices. But the new cinematic take on James O’Barr’s graphic novel The Crow might finally be on track with director Corin Hardy. He’s stepping in to replace F. Javier Gutierrez, who had been lining up to direct but has switched instead to focus on a new Ring horror movie. Luke Evans is still attached to play Eric Draven, murdered by thugs alongside his fiancée, who is brought back to vengeful life by mysterious forces to hunt down his attackers.Cliff Dorfman wrote the most recent draft of the script, and producer Edward R. Pressman hopes to have production under way in the spring. Hardy might not be a well-known mainstream name yet, but he’s aiming to change that. It doesn't hurt that he was recommended to Pressman...

The rebooted version of 1994 comic book classic, The Crow, has found a new director. The previously-attached F. Javier Gutiérrez has bowed out, and relative newcomer Corin Hardy will take the reins on the gothic revenge actioner.
Per Deadline, Hardy’s name was suggested to Edward R. Pressman – who produced the original and is tackling the same role for the remake – by none other than Edgar Wright. A self-confessed fanboy, Wright was impressed by Hardy’s first short, Butterfly, and the edgy music videos he crafted for Ed Sheeran, Biffy Clyro, Keane, Paolo Nutini and The Prodigy, and recommended him for the gig. Hardy’s feature debut, The Hallow, traces the story of family who move to the rural confines of countryside and wind up fighting a load of creatures in the woods. It’s yet to be released, but will hopefully land a date for 2015.

The new film project for The Crow seems to be coming together quickly. Luke Evans is set to star in the film, and Norman Reedus might also be joining the production. Since the film is still in pre-production, there's still very little information on how the story will be portrayed, but in a recently interview with Metro UK, Evans talks about Brandon Lee and explains that it will keep the integrity of the original comic.
"It is incredibly sad that Brandon died making the movie. He was a very talented actor. It is a very beautiful story, The Crow. It is a very tragic story with huge emotional themes. We plan to tell the story differently and with a lot of integrity to the original comic book."

Fans of The Crow might be happy to hear that The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus is rumored to be the latest actor to be up for a role in The Crow remake.
The news comes from Schmoes Know, which has been getting a lot of big movie scoops lately. According to their source, Reedus is the top choice of the studio to take on a character named James. There's no information on who this James character is, but if he's cast he will join actor Luke Evans who has already been cast in the lead role of Eric Draven.
The site also claims that Kristen Stewart was up for the role of Shelly in the film, but thankfully producers wised up and “shied away from the idea after hearing that she wouldn’t attract an audience.”

Alex Proya's 1994 adaption of James O'Barr's Gothic comic book The Crow has it's fair share of fans who aren't happy that it is the latest movie to be put through the Hollywood Remake Machine, yours truly included. I'm o.k. with the film if it was a sequel (there have already been many), but going back and remaking it, retelling the story of Eric Draven (played to absolute perfection by Brandon Lee) rising from the dead to avenge the death of himself and his beloved just seems wrong to me. I'm not usually a closed minded fan boy, but when it comes to The Crow, I will gladly grab a torch and pitchfork and riot with the rest of them. The new film, to be directed by F. Javier Guttireiez, with Luke Evans (Fast and Furious 6) in the lead role, has already had it's fair share of controversy, from...

Deadline reports that Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6) is expected to be cast as the lead in The Crow.
Here is exactly what Deadline said: “They are now in negotiations and I expect the deal to make.”
The Crow is a comic book series written by James O’Barr about a man who is resurrected by a crow in order to exact revenge on those who killed him and his fiancée.
F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) is directing from a script by Cliff Dorfman (Warrior). The film is scheduled to begin production early next year.
The story was adapted before as a film in 1994 by Alex Proyas (Dark City, Knowing) to great success. However, the lead actor Brandon Lee (son of Bruce) was shot and killed accidentally during filming.
I was really hoping that Tom Hiddleston would be cast after undergoing a makeup test last month.

About a week ago, it was reported that Tom Hiddleston, best known for playing Loki in "Thor" and "The Avengers," was in talks to play the lead in the upcoming "The Crow" reboot. Now comes word that Alexander Skarsgard ("True Blood") is also in talks and the studio is ready to give him the role if he wants it. If cast, Skarsgard will play a rock musician who is murdered while trying to save his fiancee from thugs. He is resurrected by supernatural forces and seeks revenge. The role was originally played by Brandon Lee, who was killed by a freak accident during production in 1993. The new movie will be directed by Spanish filmmaker F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) from a script by Cliff Dorfman (Warrior). The plan is to begin shooting this fall.
