Scottish director, former actor. His films often chronicle working class life, including an autobiographical trilogy dedicated to his own youth. He later taught at Britain's National Film and Television School.
The Bill Douglas Cinema Museum at the University of Exeter houses thousands of items of cinematic memorabilia that the director himself helped to collect over the years, and is well worth a visit.
