Video on demand service Mubi has announced a new multi-year licensing agreement with Paramount Pictures. This is the company's second major studio deal following a recent deal with Sony Pictures Television signed in July 2015 and will make films from Paramount Pictures’ library available on demand for Mubi members for the first time.
The deal adds a selection of new content to Mubi’s growing library of premium titles in the UK. Academy Award®-winning films, renowned classics and fan favorites are all among the new slate, with titles including "Mission: Impossible,""No Country for Old Men," "Mission: Impossible," "Zoolander," "Roman Holiday" and "Revolutionary Road."
On the deal, Efe Cakarel, Founder and CEO of Mubi said: “Following a really successful summer, this new deal continues to show tremendous momentum in our growth and unique ability to offer curated and compelling films. Working with Paramount Pictures is just one of the latest of great partnerships we have developed which include festivals, major studios and distribution platform and we are looking forward to welcoming the Coen brothers to the platform.”
Mubi’s unique curated service highlights a new film every day to its members, setting the film in context and often reflecting events and current affairs in its programming. Members can enjoy films across multiple connected devices and share their experiences and opinions through social features, such as rating and reviewing films and following other users. This makes Mubi a destination for film lovers and a uniquely immersive experience.
Matthew Downer, Vice President Regional Television Licensing for Paramount Pictures, said: "Mubi has a unique and passionate membership and we are delighted that they will be able to enjoy an array of films from Paramount’s outstanding library."
The announcement follows Mubi’s recent deals with other key distribution partners including eOne, Icon and StudioCanal and the launch of Mubi on Ee TV. In July, Mubi signed its first theatrical deal to release Miguel Gomes’s praised three-part film "Arabian Nights" in cinemas across the UK and Ireland in a partnership with New Wave Films, which also covers the home entertainment and video on demand rights.
