- John Dunkel was one of the handful of writers who greatly contributed to the story quality on both the radio and television versions of "Gunsmoke," submitting 25 scripts to the TV series alone. He started his career as a play reader at the Pasadena Playhouse in the 1930s before becoming a writer for CBS Radio in the 1940s. Like those other prolific "Gunsmoke" writers (John Meston, Kathleen Hite, etc), he had a long and successful career in radio and television scriptwriting. He died of natural causes.- IMDb Mini Biography By: rtvf
