Ace music video helmer Grant Singer has worked with pop superstars like The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Lorde and Sam Smith to make artists and their record labels look good as they market album releases.
So you would expect Singer was in his element when he got into the director’s chair for his fiction feature debut, Reptile, a dark, moody crime thriller for Black Label Media and Netflix in which Benicio Del Toro plays a hardened homicide cop hunting down a killer amid small-town New England corruption and conspiracy, while trying to escape his own past.
Turns out Singer’s internal pressure gauge redlined on the Reptile set. “I always put a lot of pressure on myself to deliver on what I set out to deliver on. But this was on another level, in terms of me really wanting to take advantage of this opportunity, to do something...

Danielle Deadwyler adds emotional force to a bland script as a farmer who takes on a criminal family to protect her own
At times, this slow-burn indie hillbilly thriller feels like a heavy-footed stomp through the genre. It’s set in the Appalachian mountains, where a close-knit clannish community lives by its own rules; a lawless backcountry in which a lone woman takes on the meanest family on the mountain to protect her own, banjos strumming on the score. It’s not exactly strong on originality or authenticity. But what The Devil to Pay does have going for it is a performance of real emotional force by Danielle Deadwyler (best known for supporting roles in films such as the Netflix western The Harder They Fall).

On the face of things, The Devil To Pay could just be described as a revenge thriller but it does thankfully have more to it than many other films in that genre. After the disappearance of her husband, a farmer in an isolated Appalachian community fights to save her son when the matriarch of the oldest family on the mountain demands a payment of a debt.
In less capable hands this could be a very run-of-the-mill thriller but writers and directors Lane and Ruckus Skye (also writers of this year’s Becky) make things much more interesting. The film runs along at a good pace – coming in at a little over eighty minutes – and blends a great mix of drama with the occasional action and horror but always hard-hitting. Arclight Films is launching international sales on the horror-thriller “The Devil to Pay,” starring Danielle Deadwyler, Catherine Dyer and Jayson Warner Smith.
Arclight chairman Gary Hamilton made the announcement Monday, coinciding with the launch of the online American Film Market.
The story centers on a struggling farmer in an isolated Appalachian community, who fights to save her son when the cold-hearted matriarch of the oldest family on the mountain demands payment of a debt that could destroy a decades-old truce. Lane Skye and Ruckus Skye wrote and directed the film, and produced alongside Deadwyler, Martin L. Kelley, Allison Maier and Gabriel Olson.
“Danielle is a formidable talent, leading this gripping tale of familial defense through its pulse-racing twists and turns, as excellently plotted by Lane and Ruckus,” said Hamilton. “Our buyers have shown a consistent appetite for this kind of cerebral, elevated horror-thriller that both entertains and enlightens. "I've worked so hard to be perfect, and it still wasn't enough." Netflix has debuted the first official trailer for an indie romantic drama titled Nappily Ever After, the latest film from director Haifaa Al-Mansour. Nappily Ever After, adapted from a book, is about a woman who breaks up with her boyfriend after years of waiting for him to propose. "But old feelings, and heaps of jealousy, no doubt, arise when he promptly begins dating another woman." Sanaa Lathan stars as Violet Jones, and also produced the film. The cast also includes Ricky Whittle, Lyriq Bent, Ernie Hudson, Catherine Dyer, and Lynn Whitfield. The film seems to be all about her becoming a new person after moving on from her hair obsession, and I think it's actually an intriguing story. Here's the first trailer (+ poster) for Haifaa Al-Mansour's Nappily Ever After, from Netflix's YouTube: Violet Jones (Lathan) has ...

The Queen of Bollywood Kangna Ranaut returns to the silver screen as Simran on 15th September, and the first track from the forthcoming film shows that Kangna is truly fab!
A wedding song with music composed by Sachin-Jigar, the first fast paced track from the film ‘Lagdi Hai Thaai’ has vocals by Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa and Jonita Gandhi.
Not only does it have a cool groove, it give us more insight a look into Simran’s character and Kangana’s total abandon immersion into the great role in the film directed by Hansal Mehta.

In my last column I talked about my expectations for the Fan2Sea comic-con cruise, how it fulfilled them, and some of the things I generally loved about being at a con on a cruise ship and about the way in which Fan2Sea pulled off its maiden voyage (haha!).
Today, it’s all about the details. Want to know what your daily experience will be like if (when! I hope!) Fan2Sea happens again and you decide to go? Well, I can’t say, but I can tell you what mine was like! So here goes:
Day 1
Day 1 was pleasantly low-key from the start. Because luggage was still being delivered to staterooms, I spent the first bit of ship time chilling in one of the main areas overlooking the bar, with my lovely roommate, ComicMix assistant editor Adriane Nash, and with PR guru (and former Comic Book Resources writer/editor) Steve Sunu.

After being in development for many years, one of James Cameron‘s passion projects is seemingly coming together. THR reports Christoph Waltz is in the early stages of discussion to star in the Robert Rodriguez-directed, Cameron-scripted adaptation of the manga series Alita: Battle Angel. If it goes through, Waltz would star alongside Rosa Salazar (The Maze Runner), who plays a cyborg unearthed by a scientist (Waltz) in a junk yard. She grows up to become a bounty hunter after being taken under the wing of Waltz’s scientist. Cameron is also producing with Jon Landau and co-writing with Laeta Kalogridis. Fox is currently looking at a July 2018 release.

I’d not really heard much about The Joneses before I sat down to watch it. I had a feeling it was going to be one of those movies that you’re desperate to get to the end of but I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be recommended this to friends (and you, the lovely readers of HeyUGuys!).
The Joneses sees David Duchovny and Demi Moore back on the big screen after what I think must be a few years for them both. It also stars Amber Heard, Gary Cole, Ben Hollingsworth, Glenne Headly, Lauren Hutton, Chris Williams, Catherine Dyer, Robert Pralgo, Justin Price, Christine Evangelista and is directed by Derrick Borte.
Synopsis: Perfect couple Steve (Duchovny) and Kate Jones (Moore), and their gorgeous teenage children Jenn (Amber Heard) and Mick (Ben Hollingsworth), are the envy of their posh, suburban neighbourhood filled with mansions and all the trappings of the upper middle class.

The drama opens April 16th in limited areas followed by an expansion on April 30th. Directed by Derrick Borte and rated R by the M.P.A.A. for language, some sexual content, teen drinking and drug use.
