José Andrés is a renowned name globally, as well as locally in Washington’s Dmv (District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia) area. Ambassadors, civil servants, businessmen, tourists, locals and celebrities — including Rob Reiner, Paris Hilton, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, LL Cool J, Billy Porter, bandleader Chucho Valdés, NBA pro Kyle Kuzma and NFL player Kevin Zeitler — have all dined at his restaurants in DC, of which there are 8 and all are within a walking distance of each other.
One of his most famous concepts is The Bazaar By José Andrés, which has locations in Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York and Washington. The latter sits inside the Waldorf Astoria Washington hotel — which opened in 2022 — and it’s a perfect match, as the chef and hotel management share the same ethos and values for diversity and inclusion.
Andrés originally was supposed to open his restaurant in what was then the Trump International Hotel.

Exclusive: Lissette Feliciano (Women Is Losers) is attached to write and direct On Your Feet, a feature adaptation of the same-name Broadway musical that’s in early development at Sony Pictures, Deadline has learned.
A jukebox musical that tells the inspiring true story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, two Cuban immigrants who launched themselves to international musical stardom from humble beginnings, On Your Feet will be produced by Gloria and Emilio Estefan, as well as John and Jordan Davis of Davis Entertainment, with John Fox exec producing.
Premiering in November 2015 at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway, where it ran for more than 750 performances, the show specifically hones in on Gloria’s Estefan’s trajectory from her early days in Miami to her breakthrough as the lead singer of the Miami Sound Machine — a crossover artist, blending Latin and pop music — and ultimately, her triumphant return to the stage after a near-fatal accident.

Since 2022, Shakira’s personal life has publicly unfolded like an engrossing telenovela that just won’t resolve. The saga began in June of that year, when the Grammy-winning Colombian superstar announced the end of her 11-year romance with the Catalan soccer player, and father of her two children, Gerard Piqué. Despite taking a civil tone in a press release issued that summer, she came firing back in 2023 with a tabloid-ready diss track, detailing their breakup (and Piqué’s infidelity) in excruciating detail: the electro-pop atomic bomb “Bzrp Music Sessions #53,”recorded...

Eight-time Grammy winner Gloria Estefan is writing the music and lyrics for an original stage musical called Five Notes about Paraguay’s Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, the singer announced today.
In an Instagram post, Estefan said she’s collaborating with her daughter Emily Estefan for the music, with the book written by playwright Karen Zacarías. Dear Evan Hansen director Michael Greif will direct Five Notes, according to Estefan.
Five Notes is inspired by the Orquesta De Reciclados De Cateura, also known as The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura or simply the Recycled Orchestra, an orchestra composed of children from Asunción, Paraguay, who played musical instruments made from scrap materials collected from a local landfill. Formed in 2012, the orchestra performed internationally with Stevie Wonder and the American heavy-metal bands Metallica and Megadeth, and was the subject of the 2015 documentary Landfill Harmonic.

It’s Britney, bitch.
Or at least, it’s a Broadway musical based on songs from the pop star’s catalog.
Entitled Once Upon a One More Time, the musical — which opened at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre on Thursday — is set to Spears’ hit songs, including “Crazy” and “Circus.” The story itself, however, is not about her own life, despite fans who may see parallels between the pop icon and the musical’s cast of fairytale characters.
The plot of the two-act show featuring more than 20 of Spears’ hits follows Cinderella and other well-known storybook princesses as they try to break free from their presumed “happily ever after” narratives in search of their own empowerment. (A clandestinely acquired copy of Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique plays a key role in this.)

Andy Garcia is explaining why, despite a desire to go back to Cuba, he would never return to the country.
In an interview with The New York Times promoting his work on Father of the Bride, Garcia spoke about how the film represents the generational divide in Spanish-speaking among Latin families, his own daughters getting married around the film’s release and where he drew inspiration from for his character, an architect and father of the bride named Billy.
While discussing the way Billy is an “amalgamation of everybody I’ve ever known,” Garcia began to speak about how being a Cuban immigrant and “in our case … political exiles” has shaped his sense of work ethic and identity as an American. When asked whether he longs to return to Cuba, the answer is “every day,” but the actor says he won’t go back.

Paulina Rubio is living a musical and personal awakening, writes Nexos Magazine. The place that she calls home is Miami Beach, and she explains that she decided to move there in 1992 for a variety of reasons and has stayed there ever since. "I really, really wanted to live here. I came with visions of the American Dream of Julio Iglesias and Gloria and Emilio Estefan. My mother has always been based in Los Angeles, and I was so excited about discovering Miami, its beaches, its climate, its beautiful mix of people. I saw it as the next major Latin capital. It was also a little about rebelling. I wanted my independence, and at that time I still had to ask for my mom's permission." The...

Fidel Castro, Cuba's longtime revolutionary leader who defied the United States for nearly half a century, died Friday. He was 90 years old.
Castro had been suffering from declining health for several years. The communist dictator, known for bringing the Cold War to the Western Hemisphere in 1959, "devilling 11 American presidents and briefly pushing the world to the brink of nuclear war," as The New York Times reported, ceded his power to his younger brother, Raul Castro, due to an intestinal illness eight years ago. Fidel officially resigned as president in February 2008, and Raul took over permanently.

Some thoughts on last night's momentous Jane the Virgin coming up just as soon as I call in my #Estefavor... There are TV shows with static premises that have to be maintained in order for the show to continue, and ones that don't. Once Gilligan and the castaways got off the island, there would be no more story (give or take a reunion movie featuring the Harlem Globetrotters). When you give a show a name like Jane the Virgin, even if you're borrowing it from the Venezuelan original, you could fall into the trap of letting the show be defined by when, how, or even if the latter part of the title would cease to be. But it's been a long time since the show was hugely concerned with that question, and even in the early days it treated it primarily as a darkly comic joke about the woman who...

Jane the Virgin won’t be a virgin anymore.
The CW dramedy reaches its benchmark moment on Monday’s episode, when newlywed Jane (Gina Rodriguez) -- and mother of one -- will lose her virginity for the first time.
“I just want to say it is everything the fans have been waiting for,” Rodriguez told Et at the Paley Center Tribute to Hispanic Achievements in Television last week. “It’s gonna be funny and sentimental and a roller coaster and awkward and everything sex really is, let’s be honest.”

If one thing's for sure, it's that Gloria and Emilio Estefan impressed the stars of Jane the Virgin and the love is mutual. At the Paley Center's tribute to Hispanic achievements in television, Gina Rodriguez and Andrea Navedo gushed on having the Estefans on set with them, and it all felt like family. "That's difficult because we're only on episode eight, but Emilio and Gloria Estefan, I mean…we had Eva Longoria direct which was absolutely incredible," Rodriguez said to E! News. Navedo, who plays Ximoara, said, "I love each and every one of our guest on the show, they each bring something different to our show. But my favorites...

“Jane the Virgin” has a particularly difficult task when it returns for its third season: address a potentially tragic cliffhanger but also maintain its lighthearted and comedic tone.
At the end of last season, Jane (Gina Rodriguez) had no sooner wed Michael (Brett Dier) when tragedy struck. As he left their hotel room to get some ice, he was shot by his cop partner, who was actually the villainous Sin Rostro (Bridget Regan) in disguise.

Superheroes can never have enough help, and Arrow is no exception. Josh Segarra is joining The CW program as Adrian Chase, district attorney of Star City. Deadline is reporting that Segarra has signed on for the fifth season of the crime fighter show as a series regular. In it his character will work alongside Mayor Oliver Queen, and who knows, maybe Chase’s alter ego Vigilante will appear as well? Segarra has previously worked on Chicago P.D. and Sirens. He currently plays Emilio Estefan in the Broadway musical On Your Feet!. Arrow is the second most popular show on The CW, averaging nearly 3.8 million viewers in “live + 7.” It trails only The Flash on that network. Segarra isn’t the only new regular for the 2016 season of Arrow. The network had previously announced that Echo Kellum, who plays Curtis Holt, has been upgraded from recurring to series regular. The premiere date for the upcoming season hasn’t yet been announced.
