Henry Selick to team with Key & Peele for new animated stop-motion film
It has been awhile since director Henry Selick made Coraline, one of the better animated films in years, and he has been looking to move on to a new project. While Disney and Laika have both passed on The Shadow King by Selick, it looks like a famous duo will help the director get his next project made.
According to Variety, Key & Peele are set to help create a new animated feature with Selick that will be called Wendell and Wild. The site adds that the project is in the early stages with the duo and Selick ironing out creative details while looking for a distributor at the moment.
Selick spoke about the project, telling Variety that:
“‘Wendell and Wild’ is a comedy about two scheming demon brothers who must face their arch-nemesis, the demon-dusting nun Sister Helly,...

It’s been a surprisingly interesting month of moving and shaking in terms of doc development. Just a month after making his first public funding pitch at Toronto’s Hot Docs Forum, legendary doc filmmaker Frederick Wiseman took to Kickstarter to help cover the remaining expenses for his 40th feature film In Jackson Heights (see the film’s first trailer below). Unrelentingly rigorous in his determination to capture the American institutional landscape on film, his latest continues down this thematic rabbit hole, taking on the immensely diverse New York City neighborhood of Jackson Heights as his latest subject. According to the Kickstarter page, Wiseman is currently editing the 120 hours of rushes he shot with hopes of having the film ready for a fall festival premiere (my guess would be Tiff, where both National Gallery and At Berkeley made their North American debut), though he’s currently quite a ways away from his $75,000 goal.

We return with another edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes details on a Wes Craven art exhibition, the first sighting of Megafoot, a 100 zombie films graphical print, first photos from Australian Horror film, Barrow, an interview with actor, writer, and filmmaker Sean Stone, and much more:
The Horror Legacy of Wes Craven Exhibit Details: “Wes Craven has been feeding our collective horror consciousness since 1972, when his first feature, “The Last House on the Left,” debuted. That film was gritty, raw and terrifying, it still causes a guttural reaction some 40 years later. In his career, Wes has created some of the most memorable moments in horror cinema, from the torture scene in “The Serpent and the Rainbow,” to the Johnny Depp’s explosive scene in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” to the first glimpse of Michael Berryman’s savagery in “The Hills Have Eyes.

A devastating indictment of pop culture as propaganda — about its power and the limits of its powers — and an upending of the typical teen-girl romance movie. I’m “biast” (pro): loved the first film
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
I have read the source material (and I love it)

Luke Skywalker never suffered from Ptsd.
Well, we can presume he did. We can easily imagine that he woke up from nightmares drenched in sweat. We just never saw it onscreen. Depicting that sort of thing used to be the domain of angsty fan fiction. Nowadays, Tony Stark, in 3D IMAX, can’t sleep after New York. And we get our reintroduction to Katniss Everdeen, cowinner of the 74th Hunger Games, via a tremendously horrific flashback she experiences in what was once her safe place, her secret hunting grounds in...

The season premiere of Modern Family will tackle the overturning of Prop 8, according to a table read performed for Emmy voters.
After two years as co-host of the Miss Universe pageant, Andy Cohen says he won’t return for this year’s competition, which is happening in Moscow for the first time. According to E! News Cohen said that he, “didn’t feel right as a gay man stepping foot into Russia.”
In case you missed the video where women demand that HBO “show more dongs” (Nsfw language at that link), it’s started some discussion on HBO’s double standard. I miss the days of Oz.
Speaking of Oz, EW reports that Dean Winters will appear on Brooklyn Nine-Nine as a rival to Andy Samberg‘s character Jake. That’s not the only Brooklyn Nine-Nine casting announcement. The Hollywood Reporter added that rapper Kid Cudi as an ex-con...

"The Walking Dead" was back in action last night, returning from its midseason break just in time to resolve some cliffhangers, shatter some psyches, and break the hearts of every dedicated 'shipper who was hoping we'd finally get to see Daryl and Carol give in to their passion and totally make out. (Oh, please, like you weren't.) But despite the lack of happy endings, it was still an auspicious beginning for the second half of a season that promises much more drama before it's all over. Here's what went down.
Spoilers Ahead.
And let's jump right in, 'cause you knew it was coming: with the Woodbury crowd demanding blood, the captive Dixon brothers are officially on for a two-man, family-style edition of "The Hunger Games". Where, despite a few punches and kicks, their loyalties still lie with each other. In fact, they even seem poised to try for a daring escape.

1. Jennifer Lawrence: That's Not My Flabby Butt!
Jennifer Lawrence has been silent long enough! The Silver Linings Playbook actress showed up on the Late Show With David Letterman this week to both clarify her Meryl Streep comments during her Golden Globes acceptance speech, and set the record straight on a photoshopped pic of her bikini backside.
The actress is convinced that the paparazzi put a much older butt on her body while she was in Hawaii, telling Letterman as he held up the photo, "It's not my butt and I will not take responsibility for it. It's a 90-year-old butt that's been photoshopped onto my body, and is posing as my butt."
Causing roars of laughter in the audience, The Hunger Games beauty, 22, admits she's not the most photogenic person and she does have some "bloat" at times, but wants everyone to take away from her Late Show appearance Tuesday night that this is not her...

For an episode of Saturday Night Live that seemed to rely heavily on recurring characters and sketches, returning host Emma Stone helped to make the whole thing feel fresh thanks to her energized, no-holds-barred approach to hosting.

"All destinations are final! That's what it means, destiny: final." - George Carlin
With its trademark wacky, Rube Goldberg-style deaths of random teens, the "Final Destination" series is near-revolutionary in horror terms. It did away with the boogiemen of Freddy and Jason, embracing the idea that some kids are simply supposed to die for our entertainment dollar.
And die they do, and continue doing so in "Final Destination 5," which holds some ace killings up its sleeve as people get mashed, smashed, fried, and diced beyond recognition as punishment for... well, we're not sure if there's a lesson anymore.
We do know they're fun as hell to watch, which is why we've gathered the top five best kills from the four previous entries to get your blood pumping for more. (Warning: These clips are most definitely not safe for work. If you're squeamish, look away.)

Yes, I did just use a Fall Out Boy song title as my headline for this recap. Stop judging me.
The break's over and "The Vampire Diaries" is back. After spending some time on set recently, I've been incredibly anxious for the return -- the cast has been very cryptic about the amazing (and horrible) things that are in store for our Mystic Falls favorites.
Tonight's episode employed a host of our favorite "Vampire Diaries" gimmicks: the Elena/Katherine bait and switch, the reincarnation by ring, and Bonnie moving leaves around with her brain. Just as we were getting comfortable in some familiar territory, however, everything was upended with a shocking twist. It took me a good 20 minutes to remove my jaw from the floor after that final scene.
Ready to re-watch it with me? Let's go, team!

There were so many things to love about the 1999 movie 10 Things I Hate About You. In the same way Amy Heckerling turned Jane Austen's Emma into the masterpiece that is Clueless, Karen Lutz and Kirsten Smith turned Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew into 10 Things.
To start with, Julia Stiles is a babe. I'm sad to not have seen her in anything good lately, but at least I have fond memories of her pouty-face wearing overalls.
Then we had Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt working side by side to ultimately win the affections of the Stratford sisters. Heath was and Joseph still is worthy of my lesbian attraction.
I can't say it was a surprise to hear that this movie was being made into a TV show — most things are being reduced, reused and recycled these days. I will be surprised if this ends up being any good.
