- Niece of Douglas Fairbanks
- Tested but lost out for the lead in Rebecca (1940) due to, according to Hitchcock, her husky voice.
- Married screenwriter Owen Crump in 1940. Former aunt (by marriage to Fairbanks) Mary Pickford gave the couple a reception at her Pickfair estate. Her husband's brother Donald was the father of actor/director Blake Edwards. They had a son, William Fairbanks rump. Douglas Fairbanks Jr. became the godfather.
