The hotly contested SAG-AFTRA presidential election is in full swing, but the presidents of 16 of the union’s 25 locals spread out across the country already have been “declared elected without the necessity of a membership vote” because they were running unopposed.
Members of five locals – in Colorado, Dallas-Fort Worth, Portland, Seattle and the Twin Cities – didn’t cast a single ballot for any of their officers, board members or convention delegates because all were running unopposed. In Colorado, there was no presidential candidate on the ballot because no one submitted in a timely manner.
On the national level, there is plenty of competition in the races for president, secretary-treasurer and the national board of directors. But that’s not the case at many of the smaller locals, where more often than not, incumbents are returned to office without opposition.

Unlike many of its fast food competitors, Chick-fil-a tends to keep its menu constant, rarely relying on new or gimmicky additions to create buzz. To usher in summer, though, the chain now has two fresh items that fans will probably be pretty stoked about.
On Monday, they announced a brand new, limited-edition chicken sandwich to their lineup: the Smokehouse BBQ Bacon Sandwich, which features grilled chicken, brown sugar-glazed bacon, lettuce and colby jack cheese stacked on a Hawaiian bun.
To wash it all down, customers can also sip on their new Watermelon Mint Lemonade, which they say was “made to...

If director Mick Garris (pictured below) and producer Richard Sennet have their way, Maine will be the backdrop for the much-anticipated big-screen adaptation of Bangor resident Stephen King’s best-selling 1998 novel Bag Of Bones. Shooting is tentatively scheduled to begin this summer, but use of the Maine location depends on an adjustment of the state’s film incentive program.
“We’re basically here to see if officials want to do this. If not, there are plenty of places we could go,” Sennet told the Portland Press Herald. Other possible sites include Massachusetts, Louisiana, Michigan and Georgia.
Currently, Maine reimburses production companies for 12 percent of wages paid to Maine residents and 10 percent of wages for non-Maine residents. The program also offers an income tax rebate for investors, no state sales tax on production items and reimbursement of lodging taxes for long-term stays. (That’s modest when compared to programs in Massachusetts and Connecticut,...
