Though Netflix ruined our hopes for another David Lynch movie––perhaps too much to ask from the people behind Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, now streaming––the man more or less never stops creating. (When we did an interview he Zoomed from his woodworking office and showed off a lamp he was making.) Today we have our first Lynch track in some years, albeit in remix form––part and parcel of him once telling me he’s “a non-musician musician.”
For Mylène Farmer’s Remix Xl album, out today, he’s stripped-down her 1999 track “Je te rends ton amour” to expose a fuzzy bass line, thrumming and slightly abrasive à la something from the Lost Highway or Inland Empire soundtracks. A small transmission from Lynchland that, if nothing else, shows his creative energies remain.

The end of the 1990s was an odd time for cinema and in general. We were in the midst of Y2K, a panic over clocks and computers needing to roll over from 99 to 00, something people feared more than monsters and cults, something people really feared and fearmongered about. It was expected to be something of an apocalypse by some. So of course, Hollywood ran with it. Technology gone wrong, end of days, Satan coming to Earth, etc. We got films like Strange Days, Stigmata, eXistenZ, Virus, The Matrix, and End of Days (watch it Here), our movie today.
Following a dry patch of work for Arnold Schwarzenegger following Batman & Robin and heart surgery, he didn’t get all that many offers and eventually, it seemed like he would not be coming back. Then, End of Days came his way, and it seemed like a good, if darker than his then-recent work,...

Nitram star Caleb Landry Jones has won best performance by an actor at the Cannes Film Festival.
In the Justin Kurzel-directed film, the American actor portrays the gunman who committed the 1996 Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania, which killed 35 people and wounded 23 others.
Starring alongside are Judy Davis as his mother, Anthony Lapaglia as his father, and Essie Davis as a woman who befriends him.
Scripted by Kurzel’s frequent collaborator Shaun Grant, the film focuses not on the events of the massacre itself, rather the lead up, in an attempt to understand how and why it occurred.
As well as the Cannes recognition, Jones’ portrayal of the murderer has been hailed by critics in early reviews.
Writing in Deadline, Todd McCarthy says the actor “nails the kind of over-friendly, manically aggressive type people want to avoid.”
“The performance certainly will accrue him fresh admiration and attention.”

Back in 1989, when Spike Lee hit the Cannes International Film Festival for the second time with his “Do the Right Thing,” he was a Brooklyn filmmaker with the hopes of every first-time Competition filmmake: winning a prize. The festival even encouraged him to turn up for the closing-night ceremony, so Lee was furious when Wim Wenders’ jury left him empty-handed.
That still stung nearly 30 years late when Lee returned to Cannes in 2018 with “BlacKkKlansman,” which won the Cannes Grand Prix as well as his first Oscar, for Best Adapted Screenplay. “Cannes can be brutal if you don’t get the right reception: ‘Shit, why did I come?’ It’s good to get the flip side,” he said. “I’ve been doing this for three decades. Making a good film is a miracle. There’s some hard shit.”

Spike Lee did not mince his words at the Cannes Film Festival jury press conference this afternoon, which raised the curtain on his history-making tenure as the event’s first Black Competition jury president in its 74-year history.
Lee is returning to the festival that helped launch his career when She’s Gotta Have It screened here in 1986. Three years later he showed his seminal movie Do The Right Thing in Cannes Competition.
Asking a question about what the fest means to Lee, Chaz Ebert, the wife of the late famed film critic Roger Ebert, noted that her husband had been appalled that Do The Right Thing had not received any awards from the Cannes jury that year, and had even threatened to boycott the festival as a result.

From the director of 2008’s horror ordeal, Martyrs, Incident in a Ghostland is a terrifying thrill ride that’s as intense as it is disturbing. Having screened at 2018’s Arrow Video FrightFest to positive reviews ahead of its UK Blu-ray & DVD debut, Pascal Laugier’s latest will have you hiding behind your hands and squirming in your seat. It would spoil things to give too much away about the plot as it’s a film best watched when you’re unprepared for it but the lead cast give powerhouse performances, really selling the characters. Combine this with Laugier’s unique, visceral visual style and you genuinely believe these characters are trapped in an inescapable nightmare.

"I never should've stayed in that house." Vertical Entertainment has debuted a new official Us trailer for the supernatural horror thriller Incident in a Ghostland, the latest from French director Pascal Laugier. We posted an international trailer for this earlier in the year. The story is about a house where a woman had to fend off intruders to save her daughters. Years later, the two of them grow up with completely different personalities, still traumatized by the events. When they all reunite at the house once again, strange events began to occur. The horror film stars Crystal Reed, Taylor Hickson, Rob Archer, Emilia Jones, Adam Hurtig, Anastasia Phillips, Mylène Farmer, and Alicia Johnston. Unfortunately this still looks as mediocre as it did in the first trailer, only for the most diehard horror fans. Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Pascal Laugier's Incident in a Ghostland, from YouTube: You...

The first trailer has been released for a crazy looking horror film called Ghostland and what I'm seeing is some high-energy nightmarish stuff. As you'll see, this story is going to be filled with some sinister content. I like what I'm seeing in this trailer and it looks like a film that I'll enjoy watching because I'm a horror movie freak.
The story begins in a house where a mother is forced to fight off intruders to save her two daughters. Still traumatized by the events that took place in the house, the girls grow up to have completely different personalities. When they reunite at the house once again, terrifying things start to happen. Here's the synopsis:
Following the death of her aunt, Pauline and her two daughters inherit a house. But the first night, murderers enter the house and Pauline must fight to save her daughters. A drama that...

"Are you going to let me die alone?" The official French trailer has debuted for the latest horror film from French director Pascal Laugier (Martyrs), titled Ghostland or also Incident in a Ghost Land. The story is about a house where a woman had to fend off intruders to save her daughters. Years later, the two of them grow up with completely different personalities, still traumatized by the events. When they all reunite at the house once again, strange events began to occur. I like the tagline on the second poster: "you really thought you've been scared before?" Oh damn. The horror film stars Crystal Reed, Taylor Hickson, Rob Archer, Emilia Jones, Adam Hurtig, Anastasia Phillips, Mylène Farmer, and Alicia Johnston. The film opens first in France, then should hit Us theaters sometime in the spring. Take a peek if you dare. Here's the first international trailer for Pascal Laugier's Ghostland,...

French director Pascal Laugier (Martyrs, 2008) has a new film in the works. Titled Ghostland or Incident in a Ghost Land, Laugier's latest involves murder in a new home. Colleen (Mylène Farmer) and her two daughters turn on each other, on their first traumatic night in the home. As well, Laugier is one of he purveyors of New French Extremity, which include truly horrific films such as Frontiere(s) (2007), Baise-moi (2000), High Tension (2003) and many more. His latest looks to continue the onslaught, with Ghostland releasing first in France. A short Red Band trailer for Ghostland is hosted here. The Red Band trailer is a short one. The clip shows one woman attacked by an invisible figure. Another sister is pulled into a dark portal. The lighting, in the trailer, is very dark as the family struggles with the supernatural. Mars Distribution will host the film's first showing, in France. Though an English language title,...

Who won the Super Bowl this past Sunday? You don't remember? You're probably not alone. However, you'll likely recall some of the ads and shows presented during the game. Curiously, even more memorable than M.I.A.'s middle finger, Madonna's (otherwise PG-rated) Mylène Farmer-style musical extravaganza, and the movie spots for The Dictator, The Avengers, Battleship, and John Carter was a simple car ad. A Chrysler car ad, for Christ sake. (Please scroll down.) The ad has become a cause célèbre not necessarily because of what it has to say or how the message is conveyed. In fact, "It's Halftime America" looks like every corny ad that G.E., for one, has been cranking out since time immemorial. The issue here is the political affiliations of the ad's car salesman: Clint Eastwood. Clint Eastwood, Chrysler Super Bowl Halftime commercial Eastwood, a paragon of socially sanctioned vigilantism disguised as...

Madonna's Super Bowl Show 2012: Memories of Mylène Farmer Madonna, movie trailers (The Avengers, Battleship, John Carter), and car commercials were some of the hits at the 2012 Super Bowl broadcast yesterday. Below (please scroll down) is the spectacular (or spectacularly tacky, if you wish) Madonna Super Bowl Xlvi Halftime Show in HD. (Madonna's Super Bowl show, I should add, was a total — if much less daring — rip-off of Mylène Farmer's shows throughout Europe.) According to reports, the 2012 Super Bowl was watched by a record-breaking 111.3 million people in the United States. (Overseas, about 111.3 people watched it.) Now, I don't know if those (domestic) figures truly reflect the number of people in front of TV sets across the country; either way, what remains totally unclear is how many of those purported 111.3 million Super Bowl watchers were a) actually paying any attention to the game b) at least half-way sober...
