Bill Keller.Photo by Hunter Kahn/Wikipedia.Four New York Times journalists, two reporters and two photographers, have gone missing in eastern Libya, according to a statement (Pdf) released by the paper’s executive editor, Bill Keller. “The missing journalists are Anthony Shadid, the Beirut bureau chief and twice winner of the Pulitzer Prize for foreign reporting; Stephen Farrell, a reporter and videographer who was kidnapped by the Taliban in 2009 and rescued by British commandos; and two photographers, Tyler Hicks and Lynsey Addario, who have worked extensively in the Middle East and Africa,” Keller wrote. He also noted, vaguely, that there are reports that the four were “swept up by advancing Libyan government forces.” In 2009, Farrell and an Afghan journalist were kidnapped by the Taliban. The Afghan journalist was killed, and Farrell wrote a heartbreaking and horrifying account of his capture, and rescue by the British military, for the Times.

Ricky Whittle has told Liverpool Crown Court that he did not deliberately drive at paparazzo Stephen Farrell. The ex-Hollyoaks actor is facing charges of dangerous driving over an alleged collision with Farrell in Liverpool in the early morning of November 27 last year. Prosecutors have claimed that Whittle hit Farrell out of "irritation". Speaking in court yesterday, Whittle said: "I said [to the photographers], 'life's s**t as it is, can you give us a break? It's cold and the girls are only in dresses, just leave us alone'." (more)...

Ricky Whittle hit a photographer with his Dodge car out of frustration, Liverpool Crown Court has heard. The ex-Hollyoaks actor has denied charges of dangerous driving brought against him by paparazzo Stephen Farrell regarding an alleged collision in the early morning on November 27. Whittle was giving a lift to ex-girlfriend and former co-star Carley Stenson when the incident occurred near Liverpool's Parr Street studios. Prosecutor Paul Becker accused the soap star of deliberately turning the wheel of his car to hit Farrell. The court was told that Farrell was standing next to the Dodge, but not blocking it at the time. "The prosecution's case is that the defendant, irritated by the presence of the paparazzi, had deliberately turned his wheel to the left in order to vent his frustration towards Mr Farrell," said Becker. "He (more)...
