When the late director Robert Wise stepped behind the camera for 1979’s “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” he reinvigorated a moribund franchise that hadn’t existed in a live-action format for 10 years. “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” was the fourth highest grossing movie of its year and began the modern “Star Trek” era as we know it, spawning multiple sequels, spinoffs, and television series. It also nabbed three Academy Award nominations, for Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, and Best Original Score.
In spite of all this, Wise was never happy with the film and it was a sore subject with him for decades after its release. “’Star Trek’ was the one that got away,” said producer David Fein, who worked with Wise on several home video releases of the film. “He always insisted that you have to have your script solid before you start, you have to know where...

"I want you to know the only reason I'm consenting to this is because I wish to clear my name." With those words, a twentysomething Brooklyn artist named Nola Darling introduced herself to the world – and, in the process, so did Spike Lee, a prodigiously talented twentysomething writer-director who invented the character for She's Gotta Have It, which hit theaters in the summer of 1986. Speaking directly to the camera, Nola (played by Tracy Camilla Johns) laid out her life's fundamental dilemma: how to be a free-thinking, independent woman who refused...

Serena Williams’ wedding guest list rivaled the Met Gala in terms of celebrity attendance (right down to an appearance from Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour). And just like the Met Gala, stars were dressed to impress. Check out what some of the most A-list attendees wore to the tennis superstar’s New Orleans nuptials to Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian.
Kim Kardashian (above) went for a minimalist, understated blank spaghetti-strap tank dress and black stiletto sandals with barely any jewelry ( a far cry from what she wore the last time she was a high-profile wedding guest).

David Lee put a ring on it!
While vacationing in Bora Bora, the NBA player proposed to his tennis star girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki. On Friday, she tweeted out the first peek at her huge, sparkling new accessory.
“Happiest day of my life yesterday saying yes to my soulmate,” Wozniacki wrote.
Not to be outshined by the ring, Lee followed up with an Instagram post of his own featuring a beautiful picture of the couple and the text, “She said Yes! So thrilled to be engaged to my soulmate!”
The couple made their relationship public about eight months ago.
This is the second engagement for Wozniacki. In 2014, she was set to wed golfer Rory Mcllroy, but in a stunning move, he called off the engagement shortly after they sent out the wedding invitations. Wozniacki has clearly bounced back, finally finding her “soulmate” in Lee.

Tonight on ‘movies we really want to like’ we have Hal Ashby’s final feature, an L.A.- based crime saga with a great cast and spirited direction and . . . and not much else. It isn’t the train wreck described in Kino’s candid actor interviews, but we can see only too well why it wasn’t a big winner when new. Any day that a Jeff Bridges picture doesn’t shine, is a dark day in my book.

Well, that was a delightful episode with a frustrating ending.
Luckily it more of the former than the latter.
On The Good Fight Season 1 Episode 2, we were treated to more familiar faces. Julius Cane, Andrea Stevens, Judge Abernathy and last, but certainly, not least Marissa Gold.
The Good Wife was so great at introducing unique, reoccurring side characters. It's so fun to see them again.
I have been eagerly anticipating Marissa's return and I'm still holding out hope for an Eli Gold appearance.
Marissa is spunky, sarcastic and calls it like she sees it. She's an asset and luckily it doesn't take Diane too long to see that. In The Good Wife, the two of them didn't have much time together so it makes sense that Diane would be hesitant.
Here, Diane needs members for a class action lawsuit and Marissa takes it upon herself to find them.

It's finally here.
It finally happened.
On The Good Fight Season 1 Episode 1, Diane Lockhart, in a fabulous multi-colored dress that only she can pull off, dropped her first televised f-bomb.
To be fair, she had just found out she lost her entire life savings in a multi-billion dollar ponzi scheme and at the hands of close personal friends, no less, so it was justified. The subsequent ones felt pretty justified as well.
The f-bomb was far from where Diane started her journey, though.
When we first see her, she's positively glowing. She's so rich that she's buying a villa in Italy. She looks beautiful, can't stop smiling, and even has an understated gold band on her left ring finger suggesting she's still married to longtime love, Kurt McVeigh.
What could possibly go wrong?
In a word – everything.
Bad things happen to good people.

In the opening scene of The Good Fight (premiering Sunday, Feb. 19 at 8/7c on CBS and CBS All Access), liberal warrior Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski, reprising her role from The Good Wife) is watching a playback of President Trump’s inauguration on TV, and the horror and disgust on her face is unmistakable. It’s a timely and darkly amusing sequence that also proves to be the premiere’s weakest.

We've heard the story behind The Good Fight in bits and pieces, but with this trailer, it's all coming together.
Diane Lockhart decided to retire!
The smile on her face as she made the announcement said it all.
But as we've learned with Diane, she doesn't always get to have good things.
It turns out her retirement money was all invested in one place. That's never a good thing, you guys.
And it's even worse to trust a relative or close friend to do the investing.
In this case, all of the money is with the father of Diane's goddaughter, Maia, a new attorney who has been working at Lockhart whatever the name of the firm may be these days.
When the scandal breaks that he's been running a ponzi scheme, it appears they're both out, and sweet David Lee won't even allow Diane, who started the firm, to un-retire.

Many are called, few are chosen: The number of high-quality, awards-worthy documentaries seems to grow every year, but there’s still only 15 slots on the Oscar documentary shortlist. That will be announced December 5; the final five will be revealed on nominations morning, January 24. This year, 145 features were submitted.
This is the white-knuckle portion of the final campaign stretch, as documentary filmmakers and distributors hope their movies make it onto documentary branch voters’ viewing piles before they file their final grades. Those with the advantage are high-profile established hits and festival award-winners with the right combination of engaging accessibility, artful filmmaking, and gravitas.
So what’s looking like a strong bet? It’s a diverse list in more ways than one. Here are my picks for the Top 15, which are not listed in order of likelihood.

There is a lot of casting news today, a premiere date, a trailer and an order for more episodes.
So many little details to cover, so let's get started!
Starz announced Hannah James and Tanya Reynolds will be playing the Dunsany sisters, Geneva and Isobel, on Outlander Season 3. James (right) will be Geneva, who is beautiful and headstrong, but also petulant, spoiled and demanding, while Reynolds (left) will be Isobel, described as warm, friendly, and inherently more likeable.
Season 3 follows the plot of Voyager, focusing on Claire's struggle to live without Jamie in 1948 and Jamie's life after the Battle of Culloden without Claire.
Or, essentially, all the parts we missed before Claire took her daughter to Scotland and learned Jamie had survived the battle and looked longingly at the stones, knowing where she needed to be.

And this new daddy wasn't a nice guy. It's not surprising when the only thing the bugs could seem to agree upon was war. Finally, something both sides can come together to share.
Can I get an Eeeewwwww out of that one? Because we also learned how these bug people have "The Sex," and it's not pretty. It's not anything really.
Sorry. My phrasing sent me a little too far into the future. Let me get a little more out into the open first.

Colleagues who work in glass offices shouldn’t be trying to physically re-enact the 17-minute edit of Donna Summer’s “Love to Love You Baby” (without even bothering to close the door/shut the blinds). But in the case of The Good Wife‘s Alicia Florrick and Jason Crouse, the skirt-hiking, zipper-dropping nastiness was so profoundly overdue, we’re going with a “not guilty” verdict — and kinda hoping they’ll give us an encore before the CBS drama wraps its seven-season run in May.

Even during its most serious episodes, The Good Wife has delivered moments as funny (if not funnier) than the majority of network comedies. Yet while that’s a major selling point for CBS’ most deliciously twisty drama (I’d present Season 6’s “Oppo Research” as Exhibit A), I’m a little worried creators Robert and Michelle King have started to become a little too fond of sitcommy devices — including, but not just limited to Eli’s closet office — these last few weeks.

Speaking at Tiffcom today, Netflix Japan vice president David Lee reported strong interest in the company’s Us originals such as Daredevil, despite the Japanese audience’s usual indifference to Hollywood content.
“Early results show heavy engagement with Japanese content, but also really strong engagement with Hollywood content among original series, which to date haven’t had awareness and exposure in the market,” said Lee, speaking at the Jetro Business Seminar on the first day of the Tiffcom contents market (October 20-22).

The first character to comment (however inadvertently) about the hotness of The Good Wife‘s new investigator Jason Crouse (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) turns out to be the last one you’d expect.
