Derek Filiatrault began his career working as an actor and a singer/musician. In 1994 he shifted his focus to work behind the camera. He was the First Assistant Director on Rick Mercer's television series,
The Industry (1998) and would go on to A.D. numerous projects including
Trailer Park Boys (2001),
Haven (2010),
Mr. D (2012),
Call Me Fitz (2010),
Coroner (2019),
Pretty Hard Cases (2021) &
Orphan Black: Echoes (2023). His directorial debut came on
Call Me Fitz (2010), where he received a "Best Direction in a Comedy Series" Canadian Screen Awards Nomination.
