During WWII, he was employed by Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank,
California, on defense-related work.
Was the animated voice of Uncle Pecos (Pecos Pest (1955)) and is credited for the
guitar improvisation on "Froggie Went A-Courtin.".
Character actor/singer, supporting player in countless film and TV
westerns over a 40 year career. He began his career as a member of the
legendary western vocal group Sons of the Pioneers.
The Sons of the Pioneers were awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 6843 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.
Appeared on several of the Sons of the Pioneers' RCA Victor recordings. One of
Shug's songs "Forgive and Forget" showed up on an early album.
The highlight of his association with the Sons of the Pioneers was an appearance at
Carnegie Hall in 1951.
