Though superheroes are not real, the science behind their powers may be.
James Kakalios, a physics professor at the University of Minnesota, has become a Hollywood consultant on the science of superheros. Most recently he worked on the highly anticipated “The Amazing Spiderman,” released in theaters tomorrow.
Moviegoers will note Kakalios’ unique “Decay Rate Algorithm” in the film, developed out of a real equation that involves increasing likelihood of death with age. He also assisted with Spiderman’s characteristic webbing and wall crawling, stating that he based this power off of Gecko lizards and their “version of static cling.”
As Kakalios explained to NPR’s Ira Flatow, he was called in to substantiate the science behind the film by the National Academy Of Sciences' Science and Entertainment Exchange Program. Kakalois said that, though the science in these films will never be perfect, the idea is that the films will get...

Fresh off the return of Barry and his master plan last week, "Skin Game" introduced to the Archer universe's second cyborg during a lovely vacation to Krieger's transitional neighborhood.
After our trip to the neighborhood that scared off crack dealers, I'm not convinced I could love Krieger any more. The dude not only wears flesh-colored suit (unless you're black) while scuba diving, he straight up became Dr. Franenkrieger this week.
Much like Sterling, I never saw the return of Katya this week. I may not have liked her the first time around, but 2.0 brought a much wittier addition, complete with all her witty computer references. Her special place. Her C-Drive. I think I get it.
Ironically, Katya was also more human this time around. We finally got to know more than the slutty dressed pair of boobs that Archer fell in love with.
She might have been less irritating the...

As I’ve said previously, The Big Bang Theory survives solely because of its humorous components. If said humor disappeared from the show, its appeal would be nonexistent. This week’s episode proves this axiom, dropping everything appealing in favor of displaying its poorest quality: storytelling.
This week’s episode begins with a plotline appearing from nowhere; resident butt-monkey Howard is culminating his third date with Bernadette, a waitress alongside Penny at The Cheesecake Factory. Despite never being mentioned before, we are expected to sympathize with this character as if she has been a frequently appearing guest star. Worse, we’re apparently supposed to recognize her and her relations with the other characters without any sort of logical context. This is a grievous error on the part of the writing staff, CBS shuffled the broadcast order of this episode, or perhaps a wormhole opened and spat out this episode from another dimension,...
