What Do We Know About Dune Prophecy? More than you may think. With the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel a critical and box office success, it is going to be several years before we see the next feature film in the series, Dune Messiah. Luckily, production on the small-screen prequel /spin-off was concurrent with Dune: Part Two which means before the end of the year we are going to return to the fictional realms of Arrakis, Geidi Prime, and more via Max.
While not much in the way of footage has made its way online, there have been quite a few reveals about Dune Prophecy, so let’s jump in and discuss.
Denis Villeneuve is not directing any episodes

The Max series Dune: The Sisterhood (which is a prequel to the Dune feature films directed by Denis Villeneuve) started filming last November, then underwent quite a shake-up earlier this year when the director of the first two episodes, Johan Renck (who executive produced and directed all five episodes of the HBO limited series Chernobyl) decided to leave the project over creative issues, then Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) – who had been cast as one of the show’s lead characters – followed him out the door. Now IGN reports that Dune: The Sisterhood has gone through another change, but this one much less drastic than having to start over with a different director and star. This one is simply a title change. Dune: The Sisterhood is now going by the title Dune: Prophecy. IGN also reports that the show is expected to start streaming in the...

Exclusive: Max’s Dune prequel series Dune: The Sisterhood is set to relaunch production in Budapest “any day now” and will continue throughout the course of the WGA and SAG strikes, a source close to the show tells Deadline.
The series thus takes the path of House of the Dragon and Industry, given that, like those HBO titles, which we reported on earlier in the day, The Sisterhood is an Equity contract production with some from SAG-AFTRA also in the mix. And per guidance from the actors guild stateside, members working under Equity contracts are to “continue to report.”
The Sisterhood resumes production following a November launch, leading into a hiatus that always was planned, our source tells us, to get around winter conditions in Hungary. The show also notably lost director Johan Renck, creator and pilot writer Diane Ademu-John (as co-showrunner) and stars Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma earlier this year,...

Olivia Williams and Jodhi May have been cast in Max’s “Dune: The Sisterhood” (working title) following the exits of previously announced cast members Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma. Henderson departed the series amid “creative changes” made in February, while Varma’s departure was due to scheduling conflicts.
Additionally, Anna Foerster is now set as a director on the series, replacing Johan Renck, who departed at the same time as Henderson.
In November, series creator Diane Ademu-John stepped down as co-showrunner, but she remains involved as executive producer.
Williams will play Tula Harkonnen, while May plays Natalya. Set in the world of “Dune” 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, the series follows the Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit. The prequel is based on the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Allison Janney has found that, depending on the person and location, people want to talk to her about different projects.
“Sometimes a person will come up to me and I’m sure they’re a ‘West Wing’ person but they say ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ is their favorite movie,” says the 62-year-old actress. “Or I’ll think they’re about to talk about ‘Mom’ and they saw me in ‘A View from the Bridge’ on Broadway. It’s really fun to have people know all these different things.”
Yet after so many iconic roles, Janney is still finding she can do new things on screen. Case in point, her latest movie, “Lou,” now available to stream on Netflix, finds her playing an action hero. Not only that, she’s the film’s lead – something she didn’t realize until an interview with Variety.

A storm rages. A young girl is kidnapped. Her mother (Jurnee Smollett) teams up with the mysterious woman next door (Allison Janney) to pursue the kidnapper – a journey that tests their limits and exposes shocking secrets from their pasts.
That's the logline for the latest Netflix movie that incorporates a talented cast in an action-thriller scenario.
Most of us would follow Janney anywhere, and Smollett is gaining a similar group of fans. So, does that make Lou a movie worth watching?
From the outside, it looks like Hannah (Smollett) and Lou (Janney) have little more in common than residing on the same plot of land.
Hannah is a caring mother, doting on her daughter Vee. Lou is a survivalist whose closest pal is a dog, which, admittedly, she dotes on as much as Hannah does Vee.
Both women have fled their previous lives, finding a fresh start far away from the daily grind.

Allison Janney is not f*cking around in Netflix‘s new Lou trailer. Tucked deep in the Pacific Northwest, a woman named Lou (Janney) is minding her own business with a loyal canine at her side. When a massive storm hits the area, the daughter of Lou’s neighbor (Jurnee Smollett) gets kidnapped. Terrified and needing someone with specific skills, the neighbor and Lou join forces to locate the child and bring her home safely. The Lou trailer mixes the urgency of Taken with the brutality of John Wick as Janney goes on the warpath, and I am all about it.

Of all the actors in recent months and years who have tried transforming into John Wick in punishing, stylized action movies, Allison Janney in her new film “Lou” may be the most surprising transformation yet.
Janney leads the Netflix action movie “Lou” that also stars Jurnee Smollett and Logan Marshall-Green and is produced by J.J. Abrams.
In the film, she plays a woman named Lou with a dangerous and mysterious past living in the tranquil Pacific Northwest and whose only companion (you guessed it John Wick fans) her dog. As a massive storm threatens to set in on the community, Lou’s neighbor (Smollett) begs her to help save her kidnapped daughter, unaware of Lou’s many secrets.

Academy Award and Emmy Award-winner Allison Janney is adding action star to her very long resume with the upcoming Netflix film "Lou." The streamer just released a new trailer for the film in which she co-stars with Jurnee Smollett.
In "Lou," Janney plays a woman who has left a life of danger behind her, and has settled into a normal existence. That all changes when the mother of a kidnapped daughter (Smollett) begs her to help bring the child home. They'll have to risk everything to survive the rescue mission, a massive storm, and test their own limits to pull this off. Also starring in the film are Logan Marshall-Green and Ridley Asha Bateman ("Shattered").
Janney trained for "Lou" with fight choreographer Daniel Bernhardt at the 87Eleven studio, where Charlize Theron trained for "Atomic Blonde," and Halle Berry trailed for "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum." If the fight scenes in...

Westworld Season 3 Episode 5
There’s a reason that, when someone is going to give you bad news, they suggest that you sit down for it. They don’t yell it to you across a crowded subway, or wait until you’re about the blow out the candles on your birthday cake before announcing that someone you love has died or something else equally terrible.
It’s never easy to tell how someone is going to take bad news, and that gamut of reactions is seen across the background players of this week’s episode of Westworld. Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) has ripped the veil off of humanity, and people are getting to take a good, hard look at just what Rehoboam thinks of them and their fitness to continue to be part of the tapestry of human existence. Tapestries tend to only be as strong...

J.J. Abrams is set to produce a new thriller through his Bad Robot production company called Lou and Academy Award winner Allison Janney has signed on to star in it.
The film project is being directed by Anna Foerster, who is best known for her work on Outlander and Jessica Jones. The script for the film was written by Maggie Cohn with a revision by Jack Stanley.
The story is said to follow “a young woman and her landlord, Lou, who team up to track down the former’s child after the girl is kidnapped by the woman's estranged husband. The story has also been described as being a tonal mix of Thelma and Louis and Taken.”
Janney will take on the role of the landlord, “a hard-shelled and rule-breaking woman that has unexpectedly impressive tracking abilities, among other skill sets.”
Sounds like Janney will need to go through some training with Liam Neeson!

Katherine Lanasa has joined the cast of Are You Sleeping, the upcoming Apple thriller drama series starring Octavia Spencer and Lizzy Caplan, in a major recurring role.
She will play a new character that replaces the one previously played by Moon Bloodgood who had been cast as a series regular on the show but exited after four of the eight Season 1 episodes were filmed.
As part of the recasting, the role of Poppy’s right hand was reconceived. Lanasa will play Noa Havilland, Poppy’s (Spencer) producing partner. Bloodgood played Cath Min, Poppy’s (Spencer) best friend; that character is no longer part of the story.
Are You Sleeping, from Chernin Entertainment/Endeavor Content and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, is created and written by Nichelle Tramble Spellman based on the true-crime novel by Kathleen Barber. It provides a unique glimpse into America’s obsession with true-crime podcasts...

Code Black alumna Moon Bloodgood has departed Are You Sleeping, the upcoming Apple thriller drama series starring Octavia Spencer and Lizzy Caplan. The project is produced by the scripted drama venture of Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine..
Bloodgood played the series regular role of Cath Min, Poppy’s (Spencer) best friend, in the first four episodes of the show, which have been filmed. The series is going on a planned hiatus tomorrow, and the time off will be used to retool and recast the role. The crew is expected to return after Labor Day to begin prep work on the remaining episodes. It is unclear whether the writers will need extra time to work on the Cath character. The scenes featuring her will be reshot.
Like is the case with most recastings, I hear there is no other major reason for Bloodgood’s departure...

Emmy-nominated This Is Us co-star Ron Cephas Jones no longer will be a series regular on the popular NBC family drama. Exclusive: Paramount Pictures, which has been gearing up production under new studio chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos after being left with pretty much a barren cupboard from the previous regime of the late Brad Grey and Rob Moore, has several projects in development with female directors. They have only one in production, but the town understands this is an inherited situation that new management is now working to turn around.
We’re told one of the mandates from Gianopulos is to hire more female directors onto projects, evidenced by its development slate both at Paramount and in its Paramount Players division. One of those new projects is the high-profile Nightlife, which Neal Moritz is producing with two strong female roles (see below).
Here is what’s on the studio slate to date:
