In today's edition of the all-singing, all-dancing, all-innovating round-up: Facebook, Yahoo, Google and more.
1. Zuck and his gang are rumored to be introducing Facebook's very own email system on Monday--Fmail, if you will. The past week's Facebook-Google spat suddenly makes a whole lot more sense. (Anyone uncertain who to back should digest ReadWriteWeb's post on the fight.) Project Titan, as it is called, may well be the first step in introducing facebook.com email addresses. Over at ZDNet, Mary Jo Foley speculates that the system will be include Microsoft's Office Web Apps, since the two companies struck a deal some months back. The 'book also announced plans for a green data center in North Carolina.
2. Between 10% and 20% of Yahoo's staff is going to receive pink slips. In a statement, Yahoo! merely calls the higher figure "misleading and inaccurate," but Kara Swisher has a little more detail at All Things D,...

Calm yourselves, Microsoft Office fans--the new version for 2010 isn't due for launch until tomorrow. Until then you can amuse yourselves with info on how Ms is manhandling, shoehorning, and maneuvering to make the launch a success.
Mary Jo Foley over at ZDNet has managed to get the skinny on Office 2010 from an authorized reseller, meaning the info is coming from the horse's mouth. And while some of the Ms marketing strategies are pretty typical for this sort of grand-scale global product launch, some of the tactics may make you wish the horse had brushed its teeth before speaking out loud.
Microsoft, as you may have guessed, sells its products to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs--the Dells and the Asus's of the world) for a knock-down price in order to get users hooked on the products, and banking on bulk sales numbering in the millions to generate a profit back in Redmond.

After stirring up the tech world last week with leaks on Microsoft's Courier tablet PC, Gizmodo's done it again with new info on the device. Simultaneously, another source reveals the most precise details yet on Apple's iTablet.
This time, Gizmodo's leaked video shows far more of the Courier interface--and it shows how you might use its killer app, the "infinite journal." Check out the clip below from Gizmodo.com.
It's far more conservative, and a tad more Windows-like than the previous leaked video, which could either mean it's from far earlier in the project's conception (with more basic Windows-like thinking) or from much later in the design, as it evolves towards what's technically feasible with today's equipment. Gizmodo thinks it's perhaps more of the latter, noting this incarnation of the Courier is "more conservative/realistic."
The core of the gizmo seems to be its "infinite journal," a note-taking app (or work-flow facilitator?...

We've covered bits and bobs about Microsoft's "Project Pink" Zune smartphone before, but the device since disappeared from the news. It's back again, matched with exciting rumors of an Ms Tablet PC. Doesn't this all sound familiar?
Project Pink has a complex rumor history on the Interwebs, and before Zune HD came out it was even thought to involve that project. Microsoft's also had its suite of Windows Mobile Os's out for years, so people were really confused by the idea of an MSphone. But Mary Jo Foley over at ZDNet has been digging, and found out more of the skinny on the device...and despite a complete lack of corroboration from Ms, it's fascinating.
First off, it's going to be Ms-branded, but not made by Microsoft--which isn't really a surprise. It will be a smartphone, with advanced services like Zune video and music subscription. Mary Jo...

Okay, so the supposedly interesting Tweets that hinted at an upcoming Zune event in June turned out to be part prank, part mistake on Microsoft's part. But at the same time, a new source has leaked very specific data on Microsoft's Project Pink. What's going on?
The new Project Pink information comes from the formidable Mary-Jo Foley at ZDNet, springing from a "trustworthy" source, and it's detailed enough to make one feel confident in its validity. Specifically, Foley has information on the Windows Mobile 7 Chassis 1, which is the hardware that will support codename Pink phones. The device is have to have a 3.5-inch or larger screen, multitouch capabilities, Arm V6+ CPUs, OpenGL ES2.0 graphics capability, over 256Mb of Ram, over 1Gb of storage, and a camera larger than 3 megapixels. There's also got to be Gps, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a digital compass and accelerometer.
The general specification matches the...
