- Founded "The Transatlantic Review" magazine in Paris, France, right after World War I.
- He had been caught in a gas attack in battle in France in World War I while serving as an officer in a Welsh infantry regiment. He was badly injured, resulting in his having breathing problems for the rest of his life. He was at a clinic in Deauville, France, for treatment in 1939 when he died.
