Life is complicated. That’s not a new revelation, of course, but it’s the guiding theme on Switchfoot’s new album, the cleverly titled “Vice Verses,” out today. For every blessing, as lead singer Jon Foreman sings on the gentle, contemplative title track, there are curses. While we’re busy navigating life’s land mines, there’s beauty and sorrow going on, usually simultaneously. The album’s second track, the propulsive, psychedelic “The Original,” sounds quite unlike anything the band has ever done before. And maybe that’s the point of “Vice Verses.” The album is all over the map musically, touching on every corner of the rock...

HollywoodNews.com: Switchfoot, led by singer Jon Foreman, has made a name for themselves on the Christian rock scene. Their latest music video is for the song entitled “The Sound (John M. Perkins’ Blues),” off their 2009 album “Hello Hurricane.”
The song references an American civil rights activist and speaks on the country’s past racism that is still present in today’s world. Foreman was inspired to write the song after reading Perkins’ book, “Let Justice Roll Down,” and wanted to highlight his story.
According to Wikipedia he stated, “The Sound (John Perkin’s Blues) is a very important song for us as a band. I see so much hatred and fear around me, I see so many people living out their pain. I hear it on the radio. I see it in the headlines. John Perkin’s story needs to be heard. This song was inspired by a man...

Switchfoot's "The Sound (John M. Perkins' Blues)" music video is opened with frontman Jon Foreman holding a homemade banner. It has a message read, "This song was inspired by John M. Perkins. Dedicated to his ongoing commitment to love the oppressed and the oppressor. John said it right, Love is the final fight."
What follows next is a capture of the civil rights activist sharing his insight about what he believes in and hopes for in life. The band's live performance scenes are also included in this clip.
Taken from their seventh studio album "Hello Hurricane", "The Sound" is aimed to help John spread love to the world which is now full of "hatred." They said in a statement, "In a world where we are defined by our differences, Mr. Perkins' life of service and compassion is a tangible demonstration of what it means to live a life of love.

HollywoodNews.com: San Diego band Switchfoot, comprised of Jon Foreman, Tim Foreman, Chad Butler, Jerome Fontamillas, and Drew Shirley, have been known to inspire fans with their inspirational lyrics. Now they are offering a once in a lifetime opportunity for one of their lucky fans out there. The band have teamed up with Bidfire to record a track with a fan in their home studio. The track will then later be released on iTunes and Myspace for purchase.
The contest begins on May 28th at Bidfire.com and proceeds from the event will benefit StandUp for Kids, a non-profit organization benefiting the lives of at-risk and homeless youth. The best part of the contest is that fans don’t need to have any musical experience whatsoever, as it is all based on a bidding system, rather than skill.

They’ll rock you like a. well, you know Yes, the voice of Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman does sound more than a little like Bono’s, especially on U2-conjuring anthems like “Always.” And sure — with the band’s wide-angle, phones-in-the-air approach seemingly aimed for the nosebleed seats, Switchfoot has much in common with arena-rocking peers like Coldplay and Snow Patrol....

Really, you should be listening to music every day, but thanks to Twitter, Monday has become the best day of the week to discover new songs, show some love to the tune currently dominating your iPod playlist and quietly judge the listening habits of your closest friends.
Yes, it's #MusicMonday, one of Twitter's most enduring trending topic. And since we're all big fans of the site — not to mention music — we decided it was time to get in on the act, too. So, for the first time, we'd like to present "MTV News' #MusicMonday," a weekly look at the songs we're obsessing about here in the Newsroom. And given that this is our big debut, we've recruited a big-name talent to help us out: "American Idol" champ Kris Allen.
So, here's what's on our playlists right now.

Kris Allen is an "American Idol" of many firsts. He's the first married "Idol" winner. He's the first "short" dude (his words) who's taken home the grand prize. He's the first champ to leave the dreaded coronation song off his album. But he's the second "Idol" winner to have a sole writing credit on a track from his debut post-"Idol" CD.
Following in David Cook's footsteps, Kris included his self-penned "Red Guitar" on the album, and the track is already a legend among his fans. The autobiographical ditty was written for his wife long before he became a breakout star on the TV juggernaut. And for Kris, convincing his record label to let him write on...

Sometimes, good guys do finish first. That's what supporters of "American Idol" winner Kris Allen believe on the eve of the debut release from last season's soft-spoken champion.
With Allen's album due Tuesday, the long journey from surprise winner to young man on the cusp of superstardom is just beginning. Though, in typical Allen fashion, the buildup to his musical debut has been much more subtle than the fireworks and silver lip-gloss barrage of news and images from runner-up Adam Lambert.
In fact, until the leak of Allen's album last month, the premature release of snippets of his songs two weeks ago and the recent debut of his big budget-looking first video, news about...

'American Idol' winner debuts three new songs at Miami Dolphins tailgate concert

Just a few days after "American Idol" winner Kris Allen tweeted that he finished his self-titled major-label debut (and misses Nickelodeon's "Doug," by the way), the full track listing for the November 17 album has been revealed.
While the debut had many musical cooks, according to the track listing obtained by Entertainment Weekly, it appears that songs co-written by fellow "Idol" alum Chris Daughtry, as well as those with singer/songwriter Mat Kearney, did not make the cut.

Kearney had previously told MTV News that the tune he was working on with Allen would rough up the squeaky-clean Conway, Arkansas, native's image. "It's driving ... it has some edge to it," Kearney said earlier this month.

When we released Molly Jenson's debut album, "Maybe Tomorrow," in March, one of the first things we did was get her on the road, opening for a new act named Fiction Family, comprised of Jon Foreman of the rock band Switchfoot and Sean Watkins of the bluegrass band Nickel Creek. This fall she'll open across the U.S. for another band, Wpa, comprised of Watkins and Glen Philips, the singer of the '90's band, Toad The Wet Sprocket. But in between those gigs, Molly has discovered something very interesting: She's on the road on a multi-state tour playing in her fan's living rooms in a tour essentially booked by her fans. We have seen the democratization of many forms of media, but according to articles like these and others, we are now witnessing something very interesting happening as more and more...

Friction Family Switchfoot/Nickel Creek collaboration hardly cohesive
Friction Family
Friction Family Based on the players—Jon Foreman, lead singer of multi-platinum Christian rock band Switchfoot, and Sean Watkins, guitarist for Grammy-winning newgrass band Nickel Creek—you might expect radio-ready pop songs with a bluegrass flair from Fiction Family’s self-titled debut. Opener “When She’s Near” is a little misleading (albeit delightful)—all jingle-jangle and pop harmonies, it’s much sunnier than the subsequent 11 songs; more Switchfoot than Nickel Creek. Fiction Family mostly comes off as a Jon Foreman solo record, featuring The Guy from Nickel Creek Who’s Not Chris Thile.

When Nickel Creek said farewell (for now) to fans and disbanded in 2007, each member said they wanted to pursue solo projects. Vocalist and mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile went off to work with his group the Punch Brothers, where he recently composed a four-part, 40-minute suite entitled "The Blind Leaving the Blind" that features mandolin, violin, banjo, guitar and bass. Singer/violinist Sara Watkins is prepping her long-in-the-making solo album (due in early 2009), produced by Led Zeppelin member John Paul Jones and featuring guests Jon Brion and Gillian Welch.
