Oscar and BAFTA-winning film producer David Parfitt is hoping to reunite with French producer Philippe Carcassonne following their successful collaboration on Florian Zeller’s Oscar-winning drama The Father.
Parfitt revealed his plans during a masterclass at the Doha Film Institute’s Qumra talent incubator event on Sunday.
“He [Carcassonne] is developing something really interesting based on an Israeli novel called Pain, which he commissioned as a French screenplay but they have decided they want to do it in England in English,” Parfitt clarified after the talk.
The 2019 novel by Zeruya Shalev revolves around a woman revisiting the double trauma of being caught up in a terror attack and abandonment by a lover when he comes back into her life a decade later.
Carcassonne’s partner, the actress and director Anne Fontaine, whose credits include Coco Before Chanel, is attached to direct the film, in what would be her first English-language production.

Illuminative, the Native woman-led social justice organization, has announced the launch of the Indigenous House at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
The Indigenous House will open its doors on Main Street in Park City, Utah, where it will spotlight the creativity of Native peoples, unveil new research on Native voices in media and provide a space for community members and allies to explore issues that impact Native peoples.
“We are beyond thrilled to open the doors to the Indigenous House for the very first time at Sundance Film Festival,” Crystal Echo Hawk, founder and executive director of Illuminative, said in a statement. “Storytelling is a powerful force for change, and we’ve seen firsthand how impactful Native representation is. The entertainment industry has always been one of the biggest perpetrators of our erasure, but Native peoples have flipped the script and are breaking barriers and making incredible strides in representation.

How the Love Actually producer guided the gay-footballers chamber piece from Royal Court sell-out to BFI Flare opening-night film.
Last night (Mar 16), The Pass opened the 30th edition of the BFI’s long-running Lgbt film festival - now called Flare - at the Odeon Leicester Square.
As well as being the first Flare opener to premiere at Odeon’s flagship cinema in 10 years, it also marked a return for Duncan Kenworthy, producer of Four Weddings And A Funeral, Notting Hill, Love Actually and The Eagle among others, who has premiered four films at the venue.
For Kenworthy, opening BFI Flare with The Pass was an optimal result for a film he self-funded and produced entirely under the radar, with the understanding that if it wasn’t a creative success, he could decide not to unveil it to the wider world. Fortunately, reviews for the Ben A. Williams-directed adaptation of John Donnelly’s play about gay footballers...

Previews of the film about Mark Kennedy and other police spies to be held around the country this month
A new documentary about the police's undercover operations is being made.
Back in November 2011, Channel Four broadcast a documentary about Mark Kennedy, the police spy who spent many years undercover in environmental groups. It was made very much from his point of view.
This new documentary will be different - it tells the story from the point of view of those who were the targets of the police's covert espionage.
Jason Kirkpatrick, the director of the new documentary Spied Upon, says that the aim of his film is to show the "human story of what it's like to be targeted by secret police, while revealing at a human scale today's complex international spying apparatus."
The film is personal for Kirkpatrick. He was befriended by Kennedy while he was undercover. As he says,...

Sudden Death Overtime by Steve Vernon
(Crossroad Press)
What happens when an over-the-hill never-say-quit bush league hockey team from Northern Labrador go toe-to-tooth with a tour bus full of vampires immortal-stakes showdown of street hockey?
For the answer – throw Paul Newman’s Slapshot into a blender with Steven Niles 30 Days of Night and hit frappe!
Steve Vernon is the author of a dozen e-books of outrageously mind-blowing horror and dark fantasy including his horror/historical full length novel Devil Tree, the take-no-prisoners testosterone-fest superhero extravaganza Nothing To Lose and the cult hit novella Long Horn, Big Shaggy – A Tale Of Wild West Terror And Reanimated Buffalo.
Steve is a born storyteller who hits notes that hurt the ears of other notes. Also including the bonus time traveling hockey tale, “Time Out”.
“With Sudden Death Overtime, Vernon perfectly captures the dark heart of a Canadian Winter and the lifetime passion surrounding the game of hockey.

Today's collection is a complete, eight-page look at all of the preliminary 2011 Oscar Contenders I've featured over the week in one complete post. There are a few I'll be adding, such as yesterday's Welcome to the RIleys suggestion and hopefully a few more documentaries, before the doors to the new "The Contenders" section opens up in April, but until then this is your one-stop-shop.
As we move along add any thoughts or films you think should be added in the comments below or send me an email directly if you have thoughts on additional contenders or news on any of those on this list. Your suggestions are welcomed and encouraged.

Welcome back for part two of my four part look at the early 2011 Oscar Contenders. If you didn't check out Part One you can do so right here or use the link at the bottom of page two of this post. However, first things first, there has already been a change to part one as a watchful reader has pointed me to an article from the Los Angeles Times saying Andrew Jarecki's All Good Things is no longer at the Weinstein Co. as the director has bought back the domestic rights and is now shopping them around to potential distributors and hopes to have a deal in place shortly. This doesn't change much, but it does mean we have a change in distributor.
There was also a slight change in my numbers as another film was added to my list, bringing the total to 73 individual films plus my animated and documentary contenders,...
