Apple TV+ has announced the premiere date for first installment of its upcoming animated adventure trilogy WondLa, hailing from Skydance Animation and based on the New York Times bestselling book series The Search for WondLa by Tony Diterlizzi.
Showrun and executive produced by Bobs Gannaway, the seven-episode first season of WondLa will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, June 28.
WondLa centers around Eva, voiced by Jeanine Mason, a curious, enthusiastic and spirited teenager being raised in a state-of-the-art underground bunker by Muthr, a robot caretaker, voiced by Emmy Award nominee Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives).
On her 16th birthday, an attack on Eva’s bunker forces her onto the Earth’s surface which is now inhabited by aliens, covered with other-worldly fauna, and no other humans to be found. In fact, it’s no longer called Earth but Orbona.

Planes: Fire & Rescue, much like the Cars sequel, spins us into an entirely new world, and though the Cars franchise sequels haven’t been quite the blockbusters Pixar might have hoped for, this broader sequel theory has made them both far better films than simpler “add-on” efforts might have managed.
Dusty finds himself out of the racing game, and quickly joins with a crew of rescue vehicles who keep an eye on a vast forest in order to contain fires. Naturally, this isn’t something that sounds like a great time to Dusty at first, but he learns that there’s a lot more to life than being in the spotlight.
This all kicks off because Dusty continually pushes himself too far, damaging a part that can’t be replaced. In a fairly obvious maneuver, he ends up crashing, and causing a fire. This leads to the airport being shut down,...

★★★☆☆If there's one thing that's a certainty with Disney these days, it's that they do love an animated sequel. Created in abundance during the early nineties, with mostly unnecessary follow-ups to Aladdin, The Lion King and even Brother Bear, Disney have enjoyed some huge success with series, the majority making their debut as part of their very successful straight-to-video campaigns. Recently, however, many of their biggest films (predominantly from Pixar) have started to get theatrical sequels. Roberts Gannaway's Planes: Fire & Rescue (2014) - a spin-off from the aforementioned Pixar's Cars universe - is a decent enough film for young fans, but feels appropriate to its new home, on DVD, than the multiplex.

After Planes flew into cinemas last summer and proved to be a crushing disappointment, it's probably fair to say that nobody is getting particularly hyped up for its sequel, Fire & Rescue. Perhaps these rock-bottom expectations are a good thing, because Planes 2 feels like a significant upgrade on its distinctly run-of-the-mill predecessor, which was initially going to be a direct-to-dvd release before it found its way onto the big screen.
Dane Cook returns to voice Dusty Crophopper, who this time around sees his racing career shot to pieces when he discovers a fault in his gearbox. This immediately creates a search for purpose and meaning more compelling than anything in Planes - what's more heartbreaking, chasing a dream or coming...

The team at HeyUGuys rarely struggle with a case of the Mondays. We are blessed with an office space that encompasses screening rooms, red carpets, funky hotel suites and movie sets. And each new week brings new adventures our way. Nevertheless, last Monday was a stand out day as Disney hosted an action packed junket for Planes 2: Fire and Rescue. We have never battled flames in the name of movies before…

There’s a moment in Planes Fire & Rescue that is so incredibly poignant and touching that it just grips the audience by the throat. Dusty and company are flying through a gigantic cloud of fire, death and destruction and the only audible sounds are a ghostly, fiery rumble topped off with the faint sound of plane engines. No soundtrack, no dialogue, just a masterful touch by director Bobs Gannaway. Unfortunately, up until that point, the sequel that’s not a sequel (it’s a continuation) splutters around at times with a few scenes that only serve to fatten up it’s relatively short running time of 82 minutes. Dusty Crophopper finds himself at the end of his racing line when his gearbox decides it can’t take much more and to make matters worse, our lovable little plane manages to set fire to part of his airfield. With an aging firetruck...

Wow, talk about your quick sequel turn-around. This weekend sees two follow-ups to surprise box office hits from 2013. For thriller fans there’s The Purge: Anarchy (check out Mike Haffner’s review!) and for the kiddies it’s the return of that low flyer, Dusty Crophopper in Planes: Fire & Rescue. And once again, the ads tell us it’s set in the world of Cars (as with last year’s flick, this is not from the Pixar gang, it’s officially from DisneyToon Studios with much of the work produced by Prana Studios of India). It’s clear from this new film that the makers will not need to piggyback on the earlier Pixar hit again. With this one, Dusty and his pals can stake a claim on their own series, because like the new Apes film still in theatres, this is a much improved, superior sequel.

There’s a moment in Planes: Fire and Rescue where one of the sentient vehicles is prompted to “drop the needle.” The request is followed by a series of quick cuts: a small anthropomorphic forklift pulls out a record from its sleeve, slams in onto a turntable, and lowers the tonearm. Then, the unmistakable infinite-hammer-on riff to AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” appears on the soundtrack, accompanying a getting-ready-to-slay-a-fire montage sequence. “Wait a second,” one might ask, “LPs exist in this universe? Hold on, AC/DC exist in this universe? Are they planes? Or cars? But if they’re cars, how in the hell did Angus Young, or whatever his weird car pun name is, play that awesome riff that clearly necessitates some kind of phalanx? The Disney Animation Planes, spun off from Pixar's Cars, proved something of a box-office hit for the studio last year back, so here is a first clip from the remarkably quick sequel, Planes 2: Fire & Rescue. They're trying to protect Piston Peak National Park from wildfires, so expect heroics in testing circumstances.Planes 2: Fire & Rescue hits screens on August 8, and also features the voices of Jerry Stiller, Stacy Keach, Regina King, Wes Studi and John Michael Higgins. That headline works both as a descriptor of the plot and the quality of the film that will come from Disney's animated spin-off sequel Planes: Fire & Rescue. Despite the high quality of animation here, we're still not sold that this film is anything but an hour and a half commercial for toys. Even Transformers: Age of Extinction is at least going for some kind of wow factor when it comes to the action, while this family friendly sequel just feels like it's on auto-pilot (no pun intended). Plus Dane Cook's voice work as the lead plane Dusty seems half-hearted, as if he knows that he's part of Disney's junior varsity team. Watch below! Dusty joins forces with veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his courageous team, including spirited super scooper Dipper (voice of Julie Bowen), heavy-lift helicopter Windlifter, ex-military transport Cabbie and a lively bunch of brave all-terrain vehicles known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the fearless team battles a massive wildfire and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero.

With no films from Pixar Animation on the calendar this year, Disney must make due with their spin-off sequel Planes: Fire & Rescue. Unfortunately, this looks to be even worse than both Cars 2 and the preceding original spin-off Planes. Again, the animation looks incredible with all the fire and sweeping landscapes, but the writing is flat, and there just doesn't seem to be any passion in this story at all. It's just a showcase so that young boys will want to buy more toys. There is absolutely nothing that looks redeeming about this sequel, and we really hope Dusty (Dane Cook) doesn't come back after this adventure. Watch? Here's the latest trailer for Planes: Fire & Rescue from Disney: Planes: Fire & Rescue, the feature film sequel to Disney's Planes, will be directed by Bobs Gannaway. Comedian Dane Cook returns to voice cropdusting plane Dusty Crophopper, who learns that...

Even before Planes hit the big screen last year, Disney were ready to announce that it would be followed this summer by Planes: Fire and Rescue, the second instalment in the spin-off to Pixar’s Cars franchise.
The studio launched the first full-length trailer for the sequel earlier this year, and with its summer release now on the horizon, we’ve got a new UK poster to share this evening, giving us a look at Dusty’s return alongside new characters Lil’ Dipper and Cabbie.

Some sequels simply recycle what worked the first time. Others strike out in a completely different direction, searching for new magic. That seems to be the route being taken by Planes: Fire and Rescue, the follow-up to the hit animated feature Planes. Directed by Roberts Gannaway, Fire and Rescue moves plucky plane Dusty (Dane Cook) from a globe-trotting racer to a life-saving firefighter. And in preparation for the sequel, Disney shared an exclusive new poster. Check it out: Modern Family costar Julie Bowen joins the fun this time out, stepping in as a love interest for Cook’s aerial hero. Changing up the ensemble usually helps sequels as they seek fresh ground. And Planes also blazes trails for Disney/Pixar, which recently...

After spinning off the Cars franchise to great success last year, DisneyToon Studios are returning to cinemas this summer with Planes: Fire and Rescue.
The original Planes was of course initially expected to be a straight-to-dvd feature, as is typical with DisneyToon Studios’ output, but a late decision from Disney switched gears to give the film a theatrical release, and going one step further to announce Planes: Fire and Rescue before the film had even hit cinemas.
With its July release date on the horizon, the first full-length trailer has now debuted over on Yahoo Movies.

Coming just one year after Planes hit theaters in 2013, it's pretty clear that Disney is looking for a cash grab with this summer's sequel Planes: Fire & Rescue. Set in the world of Cars, the original film felt like the straight-to-dvd spin-off it was intended to be, and this sequel doesn't look any better despite some gorgeous animation. These stories just feel devoid of any real substance, and seem like a perfectly good waste of some talented animators. Sure, kids love Cars and these new characters, but these films can also be compelling for adults. Anyway, the new full theatrical trailer has a soft rock tune that creates a weird tone. Here's the full theatrical trailer for Disney's Planes: Fire & Rescue, originally from Yahoo: Planes: Fire & Rescue, the feature film sequel to Disney's Planes, will be directed by Bobs Gannaway. Comedian Dane Cook returns to voice cropdusting plane Dusty Crophopper,...

The Wind Rises
In The Wind Rises, Jiro (voice of Joseph Gordon-Levitt) dreams of flying and designing beautiful airplanes, inspired by the famous Italian aeronautical designer Caproni (voice of Stanley Tucci). Nearsighted from a young age and unable to be a pilot, Jiro joins a major Japanese engineering company in 1927 and becomes one of the world’s most innovative and accomplished airplane designers. The film chronicles much of his life, depicting key historical events, including the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the Great Depression,...

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (12A)
(Peter Jackson, 2012, Us) Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Andy Serkis. 169 mins
So the three-movie idea is more likely down to financial demands than creative ones, and the now-notorious higher frame rate reduces cinematic spectacle to pin-sharp TV movie, but this is terrifically wrought escapism. Freeman is the perfect lead, too. But what could have, should have been a masterpiece ends up a fantasy epic with too much epic and not enough fantasy.
Smashed (15)
(James Ponsoldt, 2012, Us) Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Aaron Paul. 81 mins
Winstead shows impressive range as a young alcoholic teacher trying to get back on track. The familiar subject feels fresh applied to a new demographic.
