The Top 10 Most Anticipated Horror Films of 2024 article and video were written by Mike Holtz.
We happen to be lucky enough to live in a timeline where horror is unquestionably crushing at the box office and otherwise. People are lining up in droves not only to see men in tights throwing down to save the universe in superhero flicks but to see monsters and ghouls doing horrible and heinous things to human beings. And no, I’m not talking about congress. I’m talking about some good old-fashioned wear your brown pants to the theater and leave the kids at home (or don’t I don’t judge) , horror flicks. I can’t promise you everything is going to be okay in 2024. Not with Ezra Miller roaming the streets, but I can promise you this… we’ve got a lot of great horror flicks headed our way. Probably. Well, they sound cool.

Have you ever seen a film in theaters that made you go “Holy Bird Poop Batman” I wish I could see that again for the first time? Has there been a film that has made you want to find the biggest possible screen to see it on within a manageable distance? Or a film that has since become one of your “new Blu-ray player test movies”? I have. In fact, there have been a few of these in my lifetime so far, but the one for today is Brotherhood of the Wolf (watch it Here).

It's not often that a home entertainment package takes a review up a whole star, but there are so many great extras to explore here - not to mention a gorgeous looking 4K version of the film - that you'll enjoy a considerably richer experience, and hours of fun.
Spread over three discs, which include the original theatrical cut of the film alongside that Uhd version, this package also includes an hour long interview with director Christophe Gans, who goes into great detail about how the film developed, explaining many of its idiosyncrasies. There's a further 17 minute interview with him as well, conducted over a gorgeous looking meal of which he gets to eat little, though as there's quite a bit of background noise in this one, you'll be glad of the subtitles. There's a lengthy introduction to the legend of the Beast of Gévaudan - essential for a proper.

Mark Dacascos has been around on our screens since 1989, playing mostly in films that required fighting skills which he has in spades. With over 80 parts in film, television, and even video games, the man has made his mark. His martial arts background is impressive, being the son of Al Dacascos, one of the founder of Wun Hop Kuen Do (Whkd) Kung Fu, he has been trained from a young age and it shows. Mark Dacascos is one of the most skilled fighters in the industry, something that shows through many of his roles. Here are our picks for the best Mark Dacascos movies.
Only the Strong (1993)
Early on in his career, but not exactly at the start, this film is one that helped put Dacascos on the map. Yes, he had done other work, but for most action film fans, this capoeira film really shows his talent as an actor and a martial artist.

It’s going to be a busy year for Silent Hill fans. An upcoming packed slate of video games and a new movie on the way opens the doors for new merch, which will include an officially licensed makeup collection from Vampyre Cosmetics.
The beauty brand took to Twitter yesterday to tease an upcoming collection that’ll feature imagery from the Silent Hill games. It’s interesting to note that “games” is plural, opening up possibilities across multiple games in the popular franchise.
Vampyre Cosmetics hasn’t revealed any details or a launch date for the officially licensed collaboration just yet. Check out the tweet below for the tease.
The Silent Hill collaboration marks the latest for the company, which previously launched themed makeup collections for Emily the Strange, Vincent Price, the Winchester Mystery House, and more.
As a refresher, Konami previously announced a new Silent Hill 2 remake with Bloober Team.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you’ve heard about the numerous Silent Hill projects headed our way, including a new movie from Christophe Gans. It’s a resurrection of sorts for a long-dormant series that hasn’t had a full scale entry since 2012. Sure we had P.T. in 2014, which was a proof-of-concept demo for a Hideo Kojima directed entry titled Silent Hills, but other than that? Nothing. Outside of Silent Hill collaborations with other games, the series started to seem like it was gone for good.
Funny thing is, this wasn’t even the first time Silent Hill was considered dead. In 2004, the masterminds behind the original three games known as “Team Silent” got together and decided to take the series into an experimental new direction. Little did they know, it would be the last Silent Hill game from them, marking the end of an era.

Home video label Vinegar Syndrome is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week, and today brings along with it the launch of a brand new sub-label from the company.
Titled Vinegar Syndrome Labs (Vsl), the aim of the sub-label is to expand and defy expectations with the diversity of films the company restores and releases. The team explains, “As the name implies, Vsl will serve as a kind of testing area for releasing genres and eras of film that one might not immediately expect to come from Vs.
“The ultimate objective of Vsl will be to see if these types of films will find an audience, and if so, pursue and release more of them…and even if not, still serve as a means of restoring more of the weird, rare, and unusual movies you might not expect from Vinegar Syndrome.”

After a 15-year wait, director Christophe Gans is returning to the world of "Silent Hill" with his new film rightfully titled "Return to Silent Hill." Gans has been teasing the promise of a new "Silent Hill" movie for months, but the previously reported reboot was declared during Konami's special presentation today to be "the catalyst for the revival of new 'Silent Hill' games." As IP and cross-media development director Rui Naito tells it, Victor Hadida, one of the producers for the original 2006 film, approached the company about a possible new film. The pitch was apparently good enough to not only get Gans back on board, but also inspire the company to return to the "Silent Hill" game series and make new installments. So since then, together with [game designer Yoshiki] Okamoto, we have been on the road to revive the games," said Naito. "Silent Hill" is considered one of the...

“Finally!” is what some people will now be saying. That’s in response to the official Konami Twitter page, which tweeted this evening that the “latest updates” for the series will be revealed during the Silent Hill Transmission livestream this Wednesday, October 19th at 2:00 Pm Pt. You’ll be able to watch the livestream from the official Silent Hill website.
Obviously, Konami didn’t elaborate on just what to expect, but if you’ve been keeping up with the rumours, you know what we’re all wanting to hear. “Will we?” is the question, however. Silent Hill art director Masahiro Ito recently took to Twitter once again and dropped some behind-the-scenes nuggets of info regarding the making of Silent Hill 2. The topic once again centred on the creation of everyone’s favourite monster in Pyramid Head, whose background was inspired by Mel Gibson‘s Braveheart.
According to Ito, the background of Pyramid Head as the executioner of the town came from the scene where Braveheart is executed (the famous “Freedom!” scene). Specifically, the hooded executioners were the inspiration behind the background of the franchise’s most famous antagonist.
“As to Pyramid Head, the background setting ‘as the executioner in the town’ was definitely inspired by the background character in Braveheart,” says Ito. “ut the background ‘as the character standing against James’ was inspired by this Louis’ quote from Jacob’s Ladder.”

The saga that is the Silent Hill franchise and its ongoing rumours have added another twist in the form of the director for 2006’s film adaptation, Christophe Gans. Speaking with French website Movie & Game (and translated by members of ResetEra), Gans (who currently has scripts ready for a new Silent Hill film in addition to a Fatal Frame adaptation) has added fuel to these longstanding rumours of several Silent Hill projects, claiming that there are “several games in development” with “several teams”.
While Gans states that he’s not involved in any of the projects, he has been in contact with Team Silent, whom he met while working on the 2006 film. When asked, Christophe Gans did acknowledge that Bloober Team was in fact working on the Silent Hill 2 remake, in addition to the other projects.

Yep, a new "Silent Hill" movie reboot is currently in the works and will most probably be out very soon! The "Silent Hill" movie franchise comprises two films, namely 2006's "Silent Hill" and the 2012 sequel, "Silent Hill: Revelation," based on the massively popular survival horror game franchise. No one was expecting another movie entry for sure, especially after the critical and commercial failure of the 2012 sequel — but now, there's definitely a reboot on the way.

Sometimes it’s like they read your mind—or just notice upcoming releases as you do. Whatever the case, I’m thrilled that the release of Terence Davies’ Benediction played (I assume!) some part in a full retro on the Criterion Channel this June, sad as I know that package will make me and anybody else who comes within ten feet of it. It’s among a handful of career retrospectives: they’ve also set a 12-film Judy Garland series populated by Berkeley and Minnelli, ten from Ulrike Ottinger, and four by Billy Wilder. But maybe their most adventurous idea in some time is a huge microbudget collection ranging from Ulmer’s Detour to Joel Potrykus’ Buzzard, fellow success stories—Nolan, Linklater, Jarmusch, Jia Zhangke—spread about.

Paris-based sales agent WTFilms, which specializes in genre movies, is presenting Romain Quirot’s sophomore feature film, “Apache: Gang of Paris,” at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris.
The pic is an ambitious revenge movie set in early 20th century Paris, when rival gangs were wreaking havoc. The term apache was coined in Paris at the time, to describe street gangs. “It’s a modern stylish and raw revenge movie,” says WTFilms’ Gregory Chambet. “We hope it will offer a renewal of the French action thriller genre, as Christophe Gans did with ‘Brotherhood of the Wolves’.”
Quirot’s freshman pic, cosmic road movie “The Last Journey,” starring Jean Reno, won Best Film at Sitges in 2020.
WTFilms’ slate also includes Quentin Dupieux’s “Incredible but True,” that follows on from his Venice-playing giant fly comedy, “Mandibles,” that starred French comedy duo Grégoire Ludig and David Marsais.

Some movies can be easily summed up in a single-sentence summary. That’s always been the appeal of the “high concept” film – it’s driven by a plot that can be quickly understood and easily marketed: “Teenager goes back in time to fix up parents”; “Dinosaur zoo breaks and dinosaurs get loose.” There’s nothing wrong with this kind of movie – some of my all-time favorites fall into this camp – but it’s easy to see why Hollywood has leaned on the formula for the last 40 years or so. Other movies defy easy description, either because their plots are complicated or because they take a relatively simple premise and veer off in all kinds of different directions. One such movie is the 2001 film Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le pacte des loups), directed by Christophe Gans and new to Blu-ray via a Scream Factory Collector’s Edition. Sure, you could boil...

Even though the Silent Hill video game IP has been pretty much on ice since the devastating cancellation of Silent Hills in April 2015, it’s beginning to look more and more likely that Konami may indeed be dusting off their beloved franchise for a new, modern audience.
Firstly, the Silent Hill rumour mill has been out of control as of late. From outlandish reports of Microsoft buying the Japanese publisher’s gaming back catalogue, to more plausible news of the company partnering with Sony to develop a duo of brand new Silent Hill titles, to even the unlikely possibility of a re-collaboration between Konami and everyone’s favourite Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, it’s fair to say that the classic survival horror series is back in gamers’ mindshare right now. In fact, we even heard word from our own sources that Silent Hills is still on the cards.

Silent Hill has been dead for years, killed off as a result of developer Konami deciding to switch focus from video games to gambling. But now that long-mouldering corpse is twitching, as the last few weeks have seen many rumors that the venerable horror franchise is making a comeback. We’ve heard that Hideo Kojima’s cancelled Silent Hills project is back in development, that both Sony and Microsoft are interested in purchasing the IP and that there’s a new movie in the works.
Sadly, talk of a new game appears to be wishful thinking, with Konami saying that the rumors are “not true.” However, it appears that at least the film might indeed be going ahead. Director Christophe Gans has mentioned at a festival that he was working on a cinematic reboot of the property and that seems to be progressing nicely, as we’ve heard from our...

Admit it, the first Silent Hill movie scared the living daylights out of you not just because of the twisted and insanely dark way that it incorporated the game elements, but also because it was a visually stunning and absolutely terrifying story that, when broken down, is actually pretty bearable. It’s okay to admit that Silent Hill: Revelations was a bit of flop and that it was underwhelming

Two great horror franchises are reportedly set for big screen adaptations.
Director Christophe Gans has seemingly confirmed that new movies based on Fatal Frame and Silent Hill are in development.
