It revolves around Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and his Imf team who embark on their most dangerous mission yet: to track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. The hype train for this one has been plugging along since the first preview was attached to Top Gun: Maverick. The major success of that movie should have left audiences with an appetite for more of Cruise’s brand of fearless entertainment.
The projections of this seventh entry in the film adaptation of the Bruce Geller series have been predicting a five-day take of $250 million worldwide. Tom Cruise is used to going to extremes to thrill audiences with the bombastic action of the Mission: Impossible franchise, but how long can he cheat death by repeatedly playing MI6 agent Ethan Hunt? If Cruise has his way, he’ll laugh at the Grim Reaper’s boney face alongside the withering visage of Father Time by defying the odds for years to come. Forever the goal-oriented actor, Cruise says he wants to walk in Harrison Ford’s shadow by playing Ethan Hunt until he’s the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny actor’s age.
“Harrison Ford is a legend,” Cruise told The Sydney Morning Herald while walking the red carpet on the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One premiere. “I’ve got twenty years to catch up with him.” While Cruise has played Ethan Hunt for over twenty years, Ford still plays Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones Jr.

They should call it Mission: Exceptional. Given that this is a series that began on television 57 years ago and over the past 27 years has delivered seven big feature films, no one would be terribly surprised if it were to begin flagging a bit. But Tom Cruise & Co. will have none of that; to the contrary, this new entry, officially called Dead Reckoning Part One, ramps up the excitement and sheer flat-out impressiveness to a new level, with the absolute final piece of the puzzle already shot and due to open in a year’s time.

Since 1996, Tom Cruise has been the heart of the “Mission: Impossible” film series, thrilling audiences as Ethan Hunt, the Imf agent constantly plunged into increasingly dangerous scenarios. And he’s not about to stop anytime soon – “Mission: Impossible, Dead Reckoning, Part One,” the seventh film in the franchise, is due out this July, while “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part Two” will be unleashed next June.
If, somehow, you’ve never seen any of the “Mission: Impossible” movies, they began in 1996 with the Brian De Palma-directed original, an adaptation of the popular, Bruce Geller-created spy series that ran from 1966 to 1973 for 172 episodes and was revived briefly in the late 1980s (that version only ran for two seasons and 35 episodes). Many of the hallmarks of the television series made it into the movie – the mission briefing that would “self-destruct” at the end of the message, the idea of a team of highly trained specialists,...

Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie are shooting flight scenes for “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two” on a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Adriatic Sea, which Cruise reached by helicopter from the Italian port city of Bari, where he jetted into on Saturday.
Confirming Italian press reports, the head of the Apulia Film Commission Antonio Parente told Variety on Thursday that Cruise flew into Bari, which is the Apulia region’s capital city, on Saturday Feb. 25. After spending the night in Bari’s 5-star Hotel Delle Nazioni, Cruise on Sunday hopped on a private helicopter from the Bari airport to go shoot scenes for the eighth “Mission Impossible” installment on an U.S. aircraft carrier “which is probably the U.S.S. Your mission — should you choose to accept it — is to head to theaters on July 14, 2023 for the long-awaited (and Covid-delayed) seventh installment of Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible” film franchise.
“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” marks Cruise’s latest outing as Ethan Hunt, an agent of the Impossible Missions Force (Imf), who embarks on an operation which — as the title suggests — promises to be his most dangerous yet.
On Sunday, Cruise quite literally dropped in during a commercial break for the NFL on CBS to thank moviegoers for watching his other high-flying sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick,” in theaters over the summer. Before he backflipped out of an airplane, Cruise reminded viewers that he and filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie (who co-wrote “Maverick”) were hard at work on the “Mission: Impossible” movies in South Africa.

At the intersection of big-star international dealmaking, the 70mm epic, and the humble sword ‘n’ shield actioner, this comic book viking saga stacks one absurd, borderline bad taste action scene on top of another. It’s an irresistible mash-up of earlier successes, well directed visually by Jack Cardiff. Richard Widmark at forty must play the Viking action hero, Russ Tamblyn at thirty is still a physical dervish, and Sidney Poitier takes on the strangest casting of his career. Plus, low sexist comedy from a platoon of hearty Brit thesps!

"Mission: Impossible" premiered on CBS in 1966 as an upside down "Topkapi" riff that left the conniving to the good guys. For creator Bruce Geller, expertise was the point. Characters and plots were left blank and blurry, forcing viewers to join the Impossible Missions Force or be left in the high-tech dust. Fun only got in the way; Geller famously scolded star Peter Graves for smiling at the end of an episode.
In 1996, director Brian De Palma reinvented the series as a star vehicle for Tom Cruise, and it's nothing but fun. The second film even includes a joke about how its star can't...

The introduction of Mr. Spock last season on the sleek CBS All Access series Star Trek: Discovery may be the first in many new frontiers for the fabled franchise now that the Paramount-owning Viacom and CBS are boldly going toward corporate reunification.
Taking a page from the now Fox-expanded Disney book, new ViacomCBS kingpin Bob Bakish made very clear just now on today’s investor call that the Star Trek and the Mission Impossible franchises have significant potential to leverage “across all the companies’ platforms.” Soon-to-be CBS CEO Joe Ianniello hit the drum hard himself when he added with an international angle that “scale is becoming more and more important all the time.”

On September 17, 1966, a landmark TV program debuted over on CBS: Bruce Geller’s Mission: Impossible, an action-adventure series centering on a team of highly skilled government agents. The original M:i ran from 1966 to 1973 and spawned a 1988 to 1990 revival, as well as several video games and a blockbuster film series whose sixth entry is on the way. Through all those incarnations, one consistent element has been the indelible, jazzy Mission: Impossible theme song by Argentinian composer Lalo Schifrin. Written in an unusual 5/4 time signature, supposedly to accommodate “people with five legs,” the catchy composition caught the public’s ear and just missed the Top 40 in 1967. In 1996, on the occasion of the first Mission: Impossible movie, U2’s Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. recorded their own remake of the tune, finally taking it into the Top 10 and making ...

Big budget spy caper Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation surpassed expectations to open in top spot at the Us box office this weekend with an impressive $56m, just short of a record bow for the fifth instalment in the two-decade-old saga inspired by Bruce Geller’s 1960s TV show.

'Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation': Tom Cruise. 'Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation': Tom Cruise, the last action hero There are two impossible missions in the latest Mission: Impossible. The first involves Chechen terrorists, political assassinations, the Vienna Opera House, and a car that unlocks when the user places his hand on the driver's side window (Detroit, get on that). The other impossible mission, one that is not only accepted and completed, but conquered and victoriously ground into dust, is proving that 53-year old Tom Cruise is still an action star. As Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation demonstrates with cruel ease, Cruise isn't just an action hero. In the post-movie star age, he is, with apologies to a certain Austrian bodybuilder whose drawing power is all but terminated, the last action hero. What makes him thus is not just his supreme confidence, compact good looks, and million dollar smile. The camera has...

The fifth installment of the “Mission: Impossible” series redefines the term impossible and Wamg has your passes to Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.
It’s something the film franchise has been doing since its box-office busting start two decades ago: with each new film, the team led by dedicated star and producer Tom Cruise has uncovered ways to match, then exceed, audience expectations, each time in different ways. Having begun as a cult phenomenon on 1960s television, “Mission: Impossible” has become a 21st Century cultural phenomenon – a filmmaking event that consistently pushes that border where the classic drama of spy-versus-spy intrigue meets creative action sequences that have become legendary.
With the Imf disbanded, and Ethan (Tom Cruise) out in the cold, the team now faces off against a network of highly skilled special agents, the Syndicate. These highly trained operatives are hellbent on creating a new world order through...

The middle of Spring actually means a new selection of summer blockbusters to look forward to, and with a ton of big-budget films slated to come out within the next few months and beyond, the summer of 2015 looks like one to remember.
From the new Mad Max (which is already on our end-of -year top ten list event though we haven’t yet seen it) to Avengers, Poltergeists, male strippers, talking teddy bears, and a reboot of the Jurassic Park franchise, this summer’s trips to the theaters will be jam-packed with sequels and new tales. From May 1st right through to the end of August, some of the movies on our list could wind up on year-end “best of” lists or even receive some Oscar talk by December.
Grab your calendar, because Wamg has a rundown of this summer’s films we’re most excited about, so check them out below!

'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' star Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' trailer: Movie stunt combo "Desperate times. Desperate measures," says Tom Cruise aka Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation trailer aka the Mission: Impossible 5 and/or MI5 trailer. Whatever you call it, that particular line could be read in a number of ways: Tom Cruise's superstardom is in the doldrums – at least that's what we hear from those who see reality only through U.S.-focused lenses – and he needs all the box-office help he can get. Hence, MI5. Hollywood is in dire need of a mammoth domestic blockbuster following a year of mediocre-performing tentpoles at the U.S. box office. Hence, MI5. The world's socioeconomic fabric is about to unravel. Hence, MI5 – so humankind can go with a bang. Not only with a bang, but with mirth as well.

Paramount Pictures revealed today that Mission: Impossible 5 - the fifth installment in the hugely-popular action franchise – will be granted a simultaneous IMAX release this summer. The last M.I. caper, Ghost Protocol, featured several mind-blowing sequences shot specifically with IMAX cameras to capture the sheer scale of the scenes, so it’s no surprise that the studio is going the same route with this one.
However, this time around, director Christopher McQuarrie hasn’t been tasked with that responsibility, as the new flick has been “digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX Dmr® (Digital Re-mastering) technology.” While it might not offer that same pop as Ghost, judging by the glimpses we’ve seen at the flick – Tom Cruise dangling from a plane at 5,000 feet – there’s no doubt it’ll still be a killer ride. I can’t say I’m even the tiniest bit surprised that Mission: Impossible 5 will screen in the big ol’ IMAX format, but Paramount have gone through with the formality of announcing the plans today.
When the film moved from Christmas to the summer it seemed to be a swerve to get out of Star Wars way, but more so on the limited IMAX circuit than in general. There’s more than enough ‘little screens’ for Impossible to come along a week or so after Wars, but the multi-storey IMAX affairs are rarer.
And Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol is probably the most effective IMAX release to date, going right for the easy-press button on anybody who is at all scared of heights. I guess they’re looking to recapture a bit of that magic here, likely with the big set piece where Tom Cruise walks around on the outside of a plane.
