Netflix released over a dozen stand-up specials in the second half of last year and Matt Rife was the most-watched.
Matt Rife: Natural Selection, which was released in November, was watched for 13.5M hours. This was above specials from the likes of Shane Gillis, Tom Segura and Mike Birbiglia as well as Ricky Gervais, Trevor Noah and Dave Chappelle (although the latter three launched theirs very late in December).
On the back of that special, Rife has been signed up for two further specials and is now developing a sitcom at the streamer.
Netflix has dominated the stand-up scene for some time now and recently launched the second iteration of its Netflix Is A Joke festival, where it had many of the biggest names in comedy across LA for two weeks.
The streamer is starting to find itself with some competition after Hulu announced it was going to compete with the rival streamer for specials.

Stephen Merchant has revealed he has no plans for further episodes of The Outlaws after the incoming series three: more details here.
Stephen Merchant took the British comedy scene by storm in 2001 when he wrote and directed The Office with Ricky Gervais. Since then, they have collaborated on Extras, Life’s Too Short, An Idiot Abroad and feature film Cemetery Junction. He went on to forge a successful solo career, from stand up tour Hello Ladies and the American sitcom of the same name to his successful pivot into hour long crime comedy with The Outlaws, which returns for its third series next week.
Created by Merchant and Elgin James, the show follows a disparate group of people assigned to community service for various reasons which gradually reveal themselves.

From The Office sidekick to standup legend and a serial killer, the multitalented Stephen Merchant is impossible to pin down. He talks about cancel culture, why pubs are more interesting than outer space and hanging out with Christopher Walken
Stephen Merchant has always been obsessed by the idea of the ordinary man “thrust into extraordinary circumstance”. Since he was a kid in Bristol, the son of a plumber and a nursery nurse, those were the kinds of films he sought out and the stories he wrote, about normal people who experience something that “jolts them out of their life and gives them a way of reframing it”. He’s talking to me from his office in Nichols Canyon, LA, in a house once owned by Ellen DeGeneres, where he lives with his partner of seven years, actor Mircea Monroe. 10. Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005–2008)
An instant classic of an animated movie, Avatar: The Last Airbender has seen too many failed attempts at its live adaptations, but the original still stands unmatched.
In the world of Avatar, some people are able to bend the elements, and one chosen can bend all four of them — and this time, it’s a boy who must also save the world.
You can watch Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix and Apple TV.
9. House (2004–2012)
When it comes to fan favorite fictional sociopaths, few characters stand as popular as Dr. House (save for BBC’s Sherlock who famously did not have a perfect finale). The one fatal mistake that most TV shows make is using TV cameos gratuitously. If the cameo doesn't mean something to the audience and the characters in the show, it's pointless, and little more than a random Stan Lee Appears gag.
On the other hand, too many shows have fallen into the trap of celebrity worship with their cameos.
Having cast members gawk and gape at their celebrity crush as if to reinforce the celebrity's prestige while doing nothing for the universe we enjoy is a waste of talent.
For this list of the top TV cameos worth celebrating, we will focus on iconic cameo appearances that gave the show some unforgettable moments that made TV history.

Nothing much has changed in Leonardo DiCaprio’s dating preferences since breaking out in the ’90s. While lauded as one of the best actors of our time, for years, the Oscar winner has been a part of a running joke of being incapable of dating anyone above the age of 25. Although it’s entirely possible that this might be a coincidence, it’s hard to ignore the pattern.
But fans aren’t alone when it comes to making memes and jokes about the actor’s alleged dating pattern, as acclaimed singer and actor Sabrina Carpenter too joins the meme train.

The American version of Ricky Gervais’ The Office led by Steve Carell is one of the most popular sitcoms ever. Its popularity surpassed the original British version, and Carell’s Michael Scott became one of the most fan-favorite characters in the show. The show ran for 9 seasons from 2005 to 2013, and now a new iteration set in the same universe is in development.
Steve Carell as Michael Scott in The Office
While it is not a reboot of Carell’s show, it will have the same mockumentary-style narrative with a new cast focused on a dying Midwestern newspaper company. When Carell was asked recently whether Michael Scott would appear in the show, the actor expressed his excitement for the new show but stated that he won’t be returning as his character from The Office.

Sabrina Carpenter Roasts Leonardo DiCaprio On Her Birthday ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Leonardo DiCaprio’s penchant for dating younger girls is well-documented in history and social media. Last year, a graph demonstrating the ages of DiCaprio’s previous girlfriends, all 25 or under, was circulated online to everyone’s amusement.
Ricky Gervais even quipped about the Titanic star’s inclination to date younger women at the 2020 Golden Globes where he joked, “Leo DiCaprio attended the premiere [of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood] and by the end, his date was too old for him.” At the time, the actor was seeing Camila Morrone, who was 22 years old to his 45.
As Leonardo DiCaprio’s dating life has become part of the cultural discourse, it was unsurprising that the topic wormed its way into Singer Sabrina Carpenter’s 25th birthday celebration.

Exclusive: The Office co-creator Stephen Merchant has reacted to news that the show is coming back in the U.S., joking that it could all be based on Zoom following the pandemic.
Merchant was the creative force behind the UK Office alongside Ricky Gervais and will be an executive producer on the untitled new Peacock series from Greg Daniels and Michael Koman.
It will be set in the same universe as The Office and will star Domhnall Gleeson (Ex-Machina) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus). Production begins in July.
Speaking to Deadline on the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet, Merchant said he didn’t know much about the new series. “They just make us sign bits of paperwork to say they can do it and I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
“I like the idea … that it’s within the universe of The Office, but not necessarily in the same office.

Not every TV show can hit a home run right out of the gate. Often, they need time to settle into a routine or win over audiences, especially when they are more character-driven. Normally, things start to shake out after the pilot episode, which is where we usually see the growing pains of a show trying to figure out exactly what it is. But every once in a while, there's a show -- sometimes even one that will go on to become legitimately great -- that needs a little more hand-holding.
Maybe the characters aren't gelling the right way, the showrunners are attempting to retool the series in real time, or they were simply experimenting stylistically. Whatever the reason, it's not impossible for a show that requires some extra time to cook to become beloved by audience. Here are some of our favorite shows that, despite eventually aspiring to greatness,...

The Office is coming back to TV. The news broke that the popular sitcom that played out as a faux reality TV mockumentary show will return after its massive success on streaming. However, this will not be the same Office fans watched years ago. Instead, it will be a new show in the same universe as the original series.
Here is what you need to know about the new The Office series and where it should air.

A new version of The Office is coming to Peacock soon, and it's going straight into the heart of a dying medium: print journalism. We can feel the good vibes already!
Greg Daniels, who was behind the U.S. adaptation of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's UK original, is teaming up with Nathan for You co-creator Michael Koman on the new comedy, which is set in the same universe as NBC's The Office. Despite the implication, the show, which will stream on Peacock, won't be set in Pennsylvania once more. Apparently, by "same universe," what Daniels and Koman mean is the work lives of the documentary crew who spent a decade filming a bunch of workers in a regional office of a midsize paper company (and crushing on at least one of them). ...

It's officially official: We are returning to the "Office" universe. Yes, we say universe because NBC's beloved sitcom isn't being revived or rebooted. Rather, the powers that be have opted to craft a spin-off of sorts set in the same world as the American version of "The Office," albeit centered on a new cast of characters in a new location. Per a press release, the series is set to begin filming in July for an eventual release on the streaming service Peacock, and the first plot details have been revealed.
The currently untitled "Office" spin-off hails from Greg Daniels, who officially came on board to develop the project last year. He also adapted the original British "Office" series for American television. Daniels is working alongside "Nathan for You" co-creator Michael Koman. New ‘The Office’ Series Picked Up at Peacock, First Plot Details Reveal Midwestern Newspaper Setting
The new iteration of “The Office” has been picked up to series at Peacock, Variety has learned.
As has been previously reported, the show is not a reboot or spinoff of “The Office,” but rather a new mockumentary show with a new cast set in the same universe. For the first time since the show was first revealed to be in the works in late 2023, plot details are now available. The official logline states:
“The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”
It was also previously reported that Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore will lead the new ensemble cast, though exact character details remain under wraps. Production is scheduled to begin in July.

A new mockumentary series set in the world of “The Office” is not only being developed — but was just picked up by Peacock. “The Office” creator Greg Daniels and “Nathan for You” co-creator Michael Koman’s untitled project has been ordered to series, produced by Utv.
The untitled Daniels/Koman project will star Irish film star Domhnall Gleeson and “The White Lotus” Season 2 breakout Sabrina Impacciatore, as well as an ensemble cast that has yet to be announced. According to a press release from Peacock, the documentary crew behind “The Office” (who stepped out from behind the camera in controversial later seasons) is back to work looking for a new subject, “when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.” Like Dunder Mifflin’s struggle with selling paper in the digital age, the series’ synopsis suggests that it will tackle the...

Peacock has officially ordered the Untitled Greg Daniels and Michael Koman comedy mockumentary series set in the same universe as The Office. Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) will lead the ensemble cast of the show, which is set to begin production in July.
The new Universal Television-produced series will see “the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters,” a release from Peacock reveals.
As Deadline revealed exclusively in January, Daniels opened up a development room to explore ideas for a follow-up series to the Emmy-winning The Office. The new project is not a reboot. To date, the small group of Daniels’ most trusted writers have penned multiple episodes for the first seasons, we hear, as casting continues...

American TV showrunners often take the ideas which originated across the ocean and make their own shows, adapting the scripts for the country’s audience. While some of such attempts turn out to be disappointing, there are a number of series which clearly surpassed the quality of the original British ones, with 5 of them being enlisted here.
1. The Office (2005-2013)
Presumably, this show comes first when we speak about these remakes. Originally created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the series’ concept eventually worked out with Steve Carell’s starring version.
There is no doubt that it became cultish for the audience all around the world, making its characters and catchphrases the most recognizable ones when we’re talking about sitcoms of such a kind.
2. Shameless (2011 - 2021)
The dramedy series, following the Gallaghers' unstable household ruled by a troublesome single father, was an adaptation of the British show of the same name too.

Rainn Wilson: “I hope people cool it with” One The Office Prank That Immortalized Jim-Dwight Rivalry
Rainn Wilson is widely known for his role as Dwight Schrute on the NBC sitcom The Office. He is one of the popular characters in the American sitcom, particularly due to his rivalry with his co-worker, Jim Halpert (played by John Krasinski).
Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute in The Office
During the entire run, it was clear that the characters didn’t get along, particularly due to the latter pulling pranks on the former. Although the show has long concluded, Wilson is still stuck with these antics and recently expressed on getting closure from the pranks. His statement comes shortly after he got pranked during his Florence trip.

British Comedian Behind BBC Shows Criticized Over Alleged “Antisemitic” Death Threat To Female Comic
British comedian Dane Baptiste, a regular on TV and creator of two BBC shows, has been criticized for allegedly posting an “antisemitic” death threat about a female comic.
Prominent members of the British comedy community rounded on Baptiste after he was accused of publishing a now-deleted Instagram post in which he told an unidentified female comedian he would “sit in prison while your family sit at the cemetery.” The full post is below.
The UK’s Community Security Trust, a charity that examines incidences of anti-Jewish hate, has been notified about Baptiste’s message, which began: “A quick note to the Zionist comedian stalking my family’s page.”
Deadline understands that the matter has been reported to the police.

The beloved sitcom Seinfeld was famously never canceled, because co-creator Jerry Seinfeld and his fellow cast members decided they should walk away after nine seasons, leaving viewers wanting more. But for about a decade, Seinfeld has continuously complained that “political correctness” is stifling comedy of the kind that made him a household name and fabulously wealthy.
As long ago as 2015 — right around when our contemporary ideas of “cancel culture” were beginning to take shape on social media — Seinfeld was talking about not playing college campuses for fear of students labeling his material racist or sexist.

Cancel culture has existed since the end of the olde worlde and the beginning of the new. Persecution and witch hunts have evolved into a more technologically savvy practice of removing whatever subverts the mob mentality. Now, it seems like The Office has become the latest victim to fall into the clutches of cancel culture.
The Office [Courtesy: BBC]Ricky Gervais’ show was always a series packed with risks, the bold statement of work existing even to this day speaks to its nature. However, the threat of criticism always looms and it’s only a matter of time until the sentiment of the masses gets strong enough to justify its cancelation and remove it completely from pop culture.
Ricky Gervais Sets the Record Straight for The Office
The notorious David Brent, who is known for his crass sexist and racist jabs, has mostly targeted his well-meaning, generously of sound mind, and moderately educated employees.

Originally envisioned as a British mockumentary spin-off starring Ricky Gervais and co-created by Steven Knight, The Office soon became one of the most popular sitcoms in history. Due to its popularity, the series has received numerous international versions, each dealing with the life of a small company dealing, in most cases, with paper. The American iteration starring Steve Carrell and John Krasinski is by far the most famous of these international versions, and if you remember, we have recently reported that the series would be getting another spin-off.

The new iteration of “The Office” currently in development has started to flesh out its cast.
Variety has confirmed with sources that Sabrina Impacciatore and Domhnall Gleeson are attached to the project, which remain in development at Universal Television. They would occupy two roles in what would be an ensemble cast, like the original versions of the show.
Reps for Utv declined to comment.
Greg Daniels and Michael Koman are co-creating the new series. It has previously been reported that it is not a reboot of “The Office” but is set in the same universe, meaning it would likely be set in a different office setting with all new characters.
Gleeson has recently starred in shows such as “Alice & Jack,” “The Patient,” “Frank of Ireland,” and “Run.” He is perhaps best known for his role as General Hux in the new “Star Wars” film trilogy. He has also starred in films such as “Frank,...

Zany caper follows Jo Hartley as a big-veg enthusiast defending her patch from elaborate ill-doings
Chaos reigns in this strange, funny and amiably anarchic mockumentary about dirty tricks in the cutthroat world of competitive marrow-growing, written and co-directed by film-maker Brook Driver. Jerry Seinfeld is a master comedian, writer, and producer, best known for his work on the sitcom named after himself. The show, which ran for nine seasons, changed the landscape of comedy shows at large and expanded the scope of storytelling.
Seinfeld took inspiration from a lot of mundane places, but he was capable of weaving it into something extraordinary. This is a testament to his comic genius, as proven by the fact that even reruns of the show are popular, even if they seem ordinary. Moreover, he went The Honeymooners‘ way with his answer when asked about the longevity of his work.

There are not a lot of actors in Hollywood whose presence itself on-screen exudes badassery. Liam Neeson has carved a unique niche for himself in the film industry, where directors and producers look up to him for serious roles. From Schindler’s List to Batman Begins, the actor has carefully picked feathers for his cap that are a testament to his effervescent acting abilities.
However, he often goes offbeat and picks up projects that show off a different side to his demanding presence on the silver screen, like he is about to do in his upcoming The Naked Gun Reboot.

But before we talk about the rebooted crime spoof-comedy, let’s have a look at the franchise that established Neeson as the tough-as-nails character in Hollywood. The Taken series remains one of the most beloved and successful action franchises to this day,...

Liam Neeson is (emotionally) baring all ahead of leading the “Naked Gun” reboot.
The actor told ComingSoon.com that he feels “slightly nervous” about leading a sequel to the iconic comedy films. Neeson says he knows his comedy chops have “to be proven.”
“It has to be proven,” Neeson said of said chops. “So I’m slightly nervous of it. A little Stephen Colbert sketch or Ricky Gervais, I’m Ok because it’s short. But a whole film, we’ll see. We’ll see.”
The original “Naked Gun” films starred Leslie Nielsen as hapless detective Frank Drebin whose cases always become a comedy of errors. The films were a spinoff from short-lived ’80s TV series “Police Squad!” In the new movie, due out next year, Neeson will play the son of Nielsen’s character in a sequel directed by “SNL” and Lonely Island alum Akiva Schaffer, with Seth MacFarlane producing.

Television fans know that The Office is one of the most popular sitcoms in history. Originally a British mockumentary spin-off starring Ricky Gervais and co-created by Steven Knight, the series received numerous international versions, each dealing with the life of a small company dealing, in most cases, with paper.
Alongside the British original, the following countries also produced their own version of the series: Australia, Canada, Chile, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Israel, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, and the United States. Of course, the American version of the series became the most popular one, but also the longest-running one with nine seasons and 201 episodes.
And while the American version ended in 2013, it has recently been confirmed that original showrunner Greg Daniels is indeed moving forward with a new version of the series. Plans for a spin-off of The Office have been there since 2008, and in 2019, Bonnie Hammer,...
