There is a distinct flavor of the brawnily austere Westerns that comprise Budd Boetticher’s cult-favorite Ranown Cycle — and more than a hint of another showcase for the great Randolph Scott, Sam Peckinpah’s “Ride the High Country” — in director Michael Feifer’s “Last Shoot Out,” a small-budget indie that aims to please the currently underserved niche audience for oaters.
To be sure, no one will ever confuse this slow-paced concoction with one of the classics that so obviously influence it. But it’s definitely a cut above some of the recent streaming-ready attempts to sustain the genre — indeed, it’s a marked improvement over Feifer’s own “Catch the Bullet,” released just last September — and it features a ferociously nasty turn by Bruce Dern in a role that recalls a character from yet another golden oldie, Walter Brennan’s vicious Old Man Clanton in “My Darling Clementine.”

Trying to explain exactly what Parallax is about is slightly complicated. It can be written in simple terms but that just wouldn’t cover the half of it. Parallax is a complex movie with lots of ideas, some of which I will try to explain – even if I didn’t necessarily understand them all!
The movie follows an artist who wakes up in a life she does not recognise. Slowly she tries to unravel the life she is in but her recurring nightmares of drowning every time she falls asleep and discoveries she finds through her painting lead her to what she believes is her ‘real’ life. It sounds complicated written down like that and in truth it isn’t much easier to follow on screen.

Do you see the tree? The Primal Group has released an official trailer for an indie "psychodrama" meets sci-fi film called Parallax, that is debuting next month despite not hitting any festivals before then. This is a rather strange and peculiar looking film. Naomi Prentice stars as a young artist named Naomi who wakes up in a life that she doesn't recognize, spending her time asleep haunted by nightmares of drowning in a black abysmal void. As she tries to figure out the truth, she begins to question "her psychological identity". The main cast includes Nelson Ritthaler, Hattie Smith, and Ted Gianopulos. It's not easy to figure out what the heck is going on in this trailer, but there's some slick footage. The final scene of her touching the painting as the blue dot begins to swirl is the most intriguing shot from this. Let's hope this might be good.

Nope, Rob Zombie's not done yet adding to his already eclectic cast for the upcoming The Lords of Satan. The newest addition? Former child TV star Brandon Cruz, better known to many of us of a certain age as "Eddie".
Here's what Zombie had to say on his Facebook page:
"Child star Brandon Cruz has joined the cast of The Lords Of Salem as Ted Delta, a local Salem drug counselor.
Brandon was a staple of 70's TV appearing in such shows as The Incredible Hulk, Police Story, Kung Fu, Gunsmoke and of course as Eddie along side Bill Bixby in the hit show The Courtship Of Eddie's Father. Add to that a starring turn in the 1976 smash film The Bad News Bears.
During his absence from acting Brandon has focused on music, heading the punk band Dr. Know during the 80's and more recently replacing Jello Biafra in...
